Zimbabwean forward Tinotenda Kadewere marked a significant milestone in his career by scoring his first goal for French Ligue 1 club FC Nantes.
The goal, however, came in a losing cause as Nantes went down 2-1 to Marseille at the Stade Vélodrome on Sunday.
Kadewere’s strike came in the 63rd minute, serving as his side’s only goal in a match where Marseille dominated. Despite the loss, the goal was a personal achievement for Kadewere, who has been adjusting to life at Nantes after a move from Olympique Lyon earlier this year. The 27-year-old forward showed composure and finishing ability as he found the back of the net, providing a glimmer of hope for Nantes after they trailed 2-0.
The match saw Marseille take control early, with goals from Mattéo Guendouzi and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang putting the hosts firmly in the driving seat. Nantes, however, did not give up and fought until the end, with Kadewere’s goal providing a brief sense of momentum for the visitors.
Unfortunately, they could not find an equalizer, and the game ended with a 2-1 victory for Marseille.
Meanwhile, fellow Zimbabwean international Marshall Munetsi was conspicuously absent from the weekend’s action.
The Stade de Reims midfielder, who has been a key figure for his club this season, was sidelined due to suspension, having picked up a yellow card accumulation.
His absence was felt as Reims suffered a 1-0 loss to Lille, unable to capitalize on his industrious presence in the midfield.
Despite the defeat, Kadewere’s first goal for Nantes will undoubtedly boost his confidence and cement his position in the team’s attacking lineup.
Nantes, who are currently struggling to find consistency in Ligue 1, will look to Kadewere’s talents to help propel them up the league standings as the season progresses.
