A farmer in Leeeupoort, near Fochville in Gauteng, has been caught illegally siphoning electricity from Eskom and selling it to 600 homes in a nearby informal settlement.
The illegal operation has resulted in Eskom losing an estimated R6.6 million. Authorities believe the farmer used equipment allegedly stolen from City Power and Eskom to carry out the crime. Eskom confirmed that it has been investigating the case since 2018.
