By Foreign Correspondent | ZimEye | Accra, Ghana – In another sneak out of holiday, Emmerson Mnangagwa has once again violated his holiday to appoint Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri in the place of his deputy Constantino Chiwenga. Muchinguri, has has been flown to Ghana as an Acting President of Zimbabwe at the inauguration ceremony of Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama.
The high-profile event, scheduled for Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the iconic Black Star Square, will see Muchinguri standing aside several heads of states on the continent.
Muchinguri’s presence has increased the noise of speculation rift between President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy, Chiwenga. Recent political developments in Zimbabwe have fueled rumors of tension between the two leaders, and Chiwenga’s absence at such a significant event is likely to deepen suspicions of discord at the highest levels of government.
It also comes at a time when Chiwenga has been threatened with so called ‘crocodile milk’, in a prayer by a provincial party chairperson.
The decision to send Defence Minister Muchinguri instead of Vice President Chiwenga suggests her increasing prominence in regional diplomacy as an Acting head of state apparent even though the appointed person is Kembo Mohadi.
ZimEye can confirm Muchinguri is booked in at a cheap budget hotel together with her husband since last night awaiting today’s ceremony.
Ghana’s Preparations in Full Swing
As Ghana readies itself for the grand event, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, Clerk of Parliament, announced that preparations for replicating parliamentary settings at Black Star Square are 80% complete. “We are ensuring a smooth process that mirrors the setup of Parliament while accommodating dignitaries and guests,” he stated.
With security and logistics meticulously organized, including road closures and designated parking areas, the Ghanaian government is set to deliver a flawless event. Guests have been advised to arrive early, with proceedings beginning at 11:00 hours.
