By Munacho Gwamanda- A destructive hailstorm has left at least 14 families homeless in Bindura District, Mashonaland Central Province, over the weekend.

The storm struck with little warning, displacing families and prompting urgent intervention from provincial authorities.

Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs Minister Christopher Magomo visited the affected Avondour Farm community to assess the destruction and devise assistance strategies.

“The damage is severe, and immediate aid is critical to help the victims recover,” he said.

Assistant District Development Coordinator for Bindura, Ms Lydia Hlabati, confirmed that the Civil Protection Unit is compiling damages statistics and notifying relevant national authorities.

Bindura South MP Remigio Matangira applauded the swift response from the Provincial Civic Protection Unit and stakeholders, who have already provided food relief to the displaced families.

“When such violent storms arise, people must come together to mitigate the disaster’s impact,” he said.

The affected community urgently needs further assistance as they face incessant rains.

Authorities have urged communities to remain vigilant and take precautions against future storms.

Hailstorms and cyclones are natural disasters that can cause widespread devastation, including property loss, displacement, and even fatalities.

In Zimbabwe, where communities often lack robust infrastructure, the impact of such events can be catastrophic.

Cyclones bring heavy rains and winds that destroy homes and crops, while hailstorms can shatter roofs, damage vehicles, and leave communities exposed to the elements.

These disasters strain local resources and demand urgent intervention from government and humanitarian organizations.
