Former CCC Youth spokesperson Stephen Sarkozy Chuma has vehemently dismissed the Zanu PF regime’s attempts to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term of office beyond constitutional limits. Chuma’s strong stance comes as no surprise, given the widespread criticism of Mnangagwa’s presidency, which has been marred by economic chaos ¹.

Chuma took to social media to express his outrage, stating, “We are going to resist 2030 nonsense with venom of a puff adder. Mnangagwa has crossed the Rubicon. ED must stop this nonsense or we meet him in the streets just like November 2017.” He further emphasized that this time around, protesters would not march to Blue Roof, but directly to the state house to demand Mnangagwa’s removal.

Chuma’s words are a clear indication that the opposition will not take Mnangagwa’s bid for a third term lying down. The hashtag #DefyOrDie, which accompanied Chuma’s statement, suggests a sense of urgency and determination among the opposition ranks.

As Zimbabwe teeters on the brink of economic collapse, Mnangagwa’s attempts to cling to power are being met with growing resistance. With Chuma’s statement serving as a rallying cry, it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold in the coming days. One thing is certain, however: the people of Zimbabwe will not go quietly into the night.
