The Zimbabwe women’s national football team, the Mighty Warriors, have officially regrouped for their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers, with a 29-member squad reporting to camp this Sunday.
The Mighty Warriors are set to face regional rivals Angola on the 20th of the month in Luanda, before meeting them again a week later at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in South Africa.
Ahead of these crucial encounters, coach Sithethelelwe Sibanda expressed her satisfaction with the players’ readiness and enthusiasm. “We are excited to start our preparations for the AFCON qualifiers, and we are confident that with the talent and dedication of our players, we can achieve great things,” Sibanda said in a statement released by ZIFA.
ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi also pledged full support for the Mighty Warriors, vowing to provide everything necessary to ensure the team’s success. “We stand behind the Mighty Warriors and will ensure they have all the support they need to excel,” Magwizi said.
The team’s first target is to overcome Angola and advance to the second round, where they will face the winner of the tie between Malawi and Congo. The ultimate goal remains securing one of the 12 spots available for the final tournament, which is set to take place in Morocco.
The Mighty Warriors are determined and ready to fight for a spot in the prestigious continental competition.
