Tensions within Zanu PF are set to boil over at the burial of national hero Tinaye Chigudu, with two party factions preparing for a showdown.
Chigudu, who passed away recently, will be laid to rest at the National Heroes Acre on Monday, and the event has become a focal point for a power struggle within the party.
On one side, a faction within Zanu PF is pushing for the extension of President Mnangagwa’s term beyond the constitutional limit, while the opposing faction insists that he should step down at the end of his current term in 2028. The rivalry between these two factions has intensified, and all eyes are now on how this will unfold during the national hero’s burial.
Meanwhile, Chigudu’s body has arrived in Chiendambuya, allowing Manicaland Province to bid farewell to their son. The body will be returned to Harare this afternoon, where it will lie in state at Chigudu’s residence in Mt. Pleasant ahead of the burial at the National Heroes Acre on Monday.
As the burial approaches, it’s clear that the internal battle for control within Zanu PF will loom large over the solemn occasion, with each faction seeking to assert its influence and stake its claim to the party’s future.
