Civil Society Activists’ Trial Set For Tuesday

The trial of the three civic society activists who are facing charges of charges of filming Prison premises has been set for Tuesday at the Harare magistrates’ courts.
The three, Edgar Gweshe ( Crisis In Zimbabwe Coalition’s information officer)  Donald Makuvaza (Chitungwiza Residents Trust official ), Charles Chidakwa (Occupy Africa Unity Square (OAUS) are facing charges of contravening Section 5 (2) of the Protected Places and Areas Act Chapter 11:12.
They were arrested last July at the Harare Remand Prison where they had visited a group of vendors who were detained at the correctional services centred.
Prison officials alleged that the three were taking pictures outside the remand prison.
The trio however refuted the state allegations when they first appeared in court.
They were granted $50 bail each by the Harare Magistrates Court on July 25.
They were arrested together with other activists, Mfundo Mlilo, Dirk Frey and Nixon Nyikadzino who have since been cleared of the charges.
