Mawarire Joins Global Appeal For The Release Of Linda Masarira

Staff Reporter |Pastor Evan Mawarire who is currently exiled in South Africa, has joined the global appeal for the release of incarcerated Tajamuka activist Linda Masarira, appealing to Zimbabweans to stand with her during her trial tomorrow.
Mawarire made the passionate appeal in a video recording reminding Zimbabweans of the overwhelming solidarity they gave to him when he was being harassed by the state. Masarira’s second hearing will be on Tuesday 26th of July 2016, at Mbare Magistrate Court from 09.30hrs in the morning.
Mawarire appealed to Zimbabweans to go out in full force in support of a fellow citizens, being wrongfully incarcerated, “I understand she was beaten by the police, and has been in prison since then, the state has denied her bail and she urgently needs our help.”
Mawarire urged Zimbabweans to respond to Masarira’s case the way they had responded to his when he was also faced with police harassment. ” You came to help me, you came to stand with me, and I am asking you, I am begging of you for those of you who can make it to the Magistrates Court, tomorrow July 26th Tuesday, please go to Mbare magistrates Court.”
An appeal for Masarira being shared on social media also reads;
“Let us please support our sister and our brothers who have been imprisoned for supporting#shutdown protests in Zimbabwe.Where are the 100 Human Rights lawyers who supported Pastor Mawarire?Where are you Zimbabweans in Zimbabwe and in diaspora? Do we support people with high profiles only? Women of Zimbabwe where are you?Why are we not taking care of all the foot soldiers in jail?If we dont support them at the time of need do you think that if you call for another Demo they will join you?Lets stand together and uphold the sanctity of life.All human beings must be treated the same.Lets turn up in numbers to support Linda Musarira tomorrow in Court.”
