UK:Pastor Gilbert Deya Arrested, Charged with Sexual Offences

(London)The Kenyan preacher (who is an ally to former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga) who claims to have super powers to create babies from mothers without necessary intercourse, Gilbert Deya, has been arrested for sexual offenses.

Mr Deya whose church claims to have more than 35,000 members and once set up a fast growing assembly at the Rainbow Towers Hotel in Harare, was arrested after investigations were opened that he allegedly inappropriately touched a 14 year old girl. Other charges before this one were three counts of rape and one count of attempted rape against another female church member.

He appeared at Camberwell magistrates court on Friday and will duly appear at the inner London crown court for a preliminary hearing on 8 November.

Deya’s wife is barred from the UK for more than 5 years running to date being confined to Kenya where she was convicted of smuggling children out of the African nation to take and hand to female church members in the UK with the intention of claiming the miracles. Several children were taken by social services after DNA tests proved they were not the kids of the church members and Mrs Deya was convicted in Kenya. Mr Deya himself was due to be deported back to Kenya back in 2007, when he managed to claim asylum and managed to stay in England.

The Deya church’s theology upholds the obsessive laying or sometimes pressing of the hands by the preacher to “transfer” healing powers to the person needing prayer. They are however often performed without the person’s consent and people are also forced into laborious processions which Deya claims will rid them of evil spirits. Another controversy is on the use of so called anointing oil which Deya instructs people to apply onto their bodies for protection from evil spirits.

An uneducated man with no papers of writ, he rarely preaches from the Bible and relies on what he says is the Holy Spirit leading him. At the height of investigations into his miracle baby claims in 2005, Deya began claiming that he had discovered new books which must be regarded as scripture and added to the Bible.

The advice of Professor Gamaliel (Acts 5:34) is the best. If it is of GOD, it will stay; if of the devil it will varnish. Some ministries arrive with a bang and disappear without a sound. Let GOD be GOD and let no man attempt to h elp Him. If Deya and wife really deceived people as claimed, judgement starts on earth and will end on the Great Day!

Hey Deya! You cld easily see that he was a crook and genuine fake.

    he is a bastard.

Let God be God and let no man attempt to help Him. Mavambo, you’ve just said it. The wisdom of true Christians. Yet those who make fortunes by professing to perform physical impossibilities always find easy prey amongst Christians. The irony is as disconcerting as the confusion created by weakening faith in an institution that has for ages, enjoyed worldwide trust. Such confusion is good fodder for men and women who know they only need to hold a bible, perhaps wear robes, then climb a podium and reach out for quick cash. Surprisingly these individuals have very little concern about the public image they cut – once their true colours are revealed. Simply revolting.

We have no right to judge a man. judgement belongs to God Almighty. It is better you keep quiet than talk too many words which will ruin your relationship between you and God. Many shall perish because of ignorance. Who are we to judge him. someone tell me,are you any better? with all the bitter words you are mentioning, do you think that if Jesus is to come now you will have the privilege to go to heaven especially with every word that comes from your tongue!!!!! RAD God did not say we should keep quiet when we see people doing evil. That is not judging. These false prophets are mushrooming every were confusing and deceiving innocent souls. We should speak against these evils people and challenge their evil deeds just like Elijah did with the prophets of Baal. The name of God and His church has been spoiled because of these wolves in sheep skin

  • Reality

How about Walter Masocha, why are people quite about him, he is like pastor Deya also.

  • Madzibaba Anus

@RAD – God gave us authority down here to make such decisions. That is why we have courts and judges so that we uphold the law. Without law and judgement it will be free for all to commit hideous crimes.
Just to tickle your fancy – “we are here because God created us to be here.”

Question – what is your ideal world RAD? is it one without law, that waits for the heavens to meter punishment to all murderers, rapists etc… I am an old testament guy a tooth for a tooth and an eye for an eye.

Kikikiki oh dear. The man who preaches about toilet manners and thinks this is salvation.

Guys, judging or no judging anyone who has been to this church will know that this nan is not a prophet wooo! The bible tells us to watch out for falls prophets. The bible teaches us the signs to observe and identify false prophets. This is not judging but in fact, the bible teaches us so.

Mr Deya, it is clear, there is evidence that the miracles in this church are by far questionable. Kuenda kwaDeya, ku rasika. Brethren, lets watch out for each other and use these signs as a proverb. These are signs of the coming of our Lord.

London is full of so many churches, no one knows which one is the remnant church but if we read the bible and follow what the true church is then we would not be hear defending Deya. We are using the bible as our guide let me say a reciepe book for life.

Jer 23:30-32 (NIV) “Therefore,” declares the Lord, “I am against the prophets who steal from one another words supposedly from me. Yes,.. I am against the prophets who wag their own tongues and yet declare, ‘The Lord declares.’ Indeed, I am against those who prophesy false dreams,.. They tell them and lead my people astray with their reckless lies, yet I did not send or appoint them. They do not benefit these people in the least,” declares the Lord.

Mat 24:3-5,10-11 (NIV) …”Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” Jesus answered, “Watch out that no one deceives you, for many will come in my name,.. At that time many will turn away from the faith… and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people.”

As spiritual adultery increases in the church, false prophets will flourish as highly sought after speakers, and as Christians accept more of these false teachings indiscriminately, many will fall away, believing in a phony “faith”. Since we have been warned, it might be wise to seek insight into how to discern false prophecy–what are false prophets likely to say? What are they like?
    Signs And Wonders

Deut. 18:20-22 (NIV) “A prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death. You may say to yourselves, ‘How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?’ If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously…”

But what if it does come true? In fact, aren’t we specifically warned that near the End of the Age many will show great signs and wonders? What then? Are signs and wonders “fruit”? Effective witchcraft is not the “fruit” we are to look for (Gal 5:22-23). Signs and wonders are not to be sought (Mat 16:4). Does the prophet call for repentance, for holiness and loyalty to Christ? Or is he providing an enticing strip-tease away from God?
Deut 13:1-3 (NIV) “If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a miraculous sign or wonder, and if the sign or wonder of which he has spoken takes place, and he says, ‘Let us follow other gods’ (gods you have not known) ‘and let us worship them,’ you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer. The Lord your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

Mat 24:25 (Phi) “False christs and false prophets are going to appear and produce great signs and wonders to mislead, if it were possible, even God’s own people. Listen, I am warning you.”

So which one is the true church:

    Biblical Remnant
The Bible speaks of a remnant on several occasions. When God looked upon the earth before the Flood, only Noah’s family was faithful (Gen. 6:1-5). When the Israelites made the golden calf, only a few refused to worship it (Ex. 32:25, 26). When Ahab led Israel into apostasy, only Elijah and 7,000 others did not bow to Baal (1 Kings 19:10-18). When Judah could return from the exile in Babylon, only a few heeded God’s call (Ezra 2:1-70). And when Jesus came to earth only a remnant accepted Him (John 1:10-13). A remnant, therefore, refers to a group of people who remain faithful to God when the majority around them compromises its faith.

Perhaps the best-known reference to the remnant is Revelation 12:17, which describes the characteristics of the Seventh Day Adventist in the context of the last days of earth’s history.

Characteristic 1: Time of Its Appearance
Revelation 12 summarizes the great controversy between good and evil, between Jesus Christ and His angels (Rev. 12:7) and the dragon, Satan (12:3, 7-9). Four encounters are described.

First, there is a battle in heaven (12:7-9). Second, at the incarnation of Jesus the dragon attempts to destroy Him, but is defeated (12:1-5, 10). Third, the dragon attacks the church, symbolized by a pure woman, and persecutes her for 1,260 prophetic days or years (12:13-16). Adventists understand this period to end in A.D. 1798. It is after this date that the remnant appears and faces the dragon in the fourth and final encounter. The remnant of Revelation 12:17, therefore, emerges and thrives in the last days—in our time.

    Characteristic 2: A Distinct Identity
The remnant is described as “the remnant of her [the church’s] seed.” By definition “remnant” implies one small part of a much bigger whole. The seed of the woman is numerous, but the remnant constitutes only a small part of this whole. Today there are 2 billion professed followers of Jesus. While the dragon hates all who have even a semblance of faith, his wrath is directed specifically against this small group, this remnant, because by their fidelity to God they stand apart from the rest. If ever the remnant were to compromise its special identity, it would cease to be the remnant.

Characteristic 3: The Testimony of Jesus
Revelation 12:17 declares that the remnant has “the testimony of Jesus Christ.” “Testimony” is another word for “witness,” and is used in the Bible as a confirmation or proof of something.1 It is often used specifically in relation to salvation by grace.2 The truth that salvation is a gift of God was a clarion call by Jesus and the apostles against the backdrop of the legalism of the rabbis and the heathenism of the pagans. It was also the rallying point of the Reformation against a works-based medieval religion. In these last days the remnant stands by this most amazing of truths and announces God’s free gift to a suffering humanity. It is God’s grace that gives the remnant its identity and empowers it to stand firm.

Characteristic 4: The Commandments of God
Revelation 12:17 also highlights the remnant’s obedience to the commandments as one of its foremost characteristics: “The dragon … went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God” (KJV).

Historically, Protestants have held biblical law in general, and the Ten Commandments in particular, in high esteem. However, dispensationalism and postmodernism — an unlikely coalition —
have combined to change this. The former assigns the Ten Commandments to the Old Testament and declares them no longer valid. The latter downplays belief in objective truth in favor of relative and subjective truth. Against this backdrop Revelation 12:17 describes the remnant as obedient to the commandments of God.

Characteristic 5: it means that the remnant is to be led through the gift of prophecy (1 Cor. 12:7-11; 2 Peter 1:21; Rev. 19:10). The role of biblical prophets was to provide inspired guidance to God’s people during important junctures in the history of salvation. Such guidance we find in Ellen White, whose ministry helped navigate the Adventist Church successfully around a multitude of theological and organizational pitfalls.

    Characteristic 6: Mission
Every biblical remnant had a crucial mission in the plan of salvation. The remnant of Revelation 12:17 is no exception. As it faces the dragon’s attacks it must heed James’s advice: “Resist the devil and he will flee from you” (James 4:7).

Resisting is not a passive activity. Revelation 14:1-13 pictures God’s people taking the initiative to bring the battle to the enemy by proclaiming the everlasting gospel throughout the inhabited world. The good news of salvation by grace is to be fully proclaimed to a suffering world. The dragon’s repeated attempts to mar the character of God must be exposed and the beauty of what it means to live in and for Christ not only preached but demonstrated. Success in this mission brings glory to God’s name.

I hope we will all be protected from this deceitful world and be saved guys!
