AN Inkomo Barracks-based soldier will perform 140 hours of community service after he was convicted of bashing his wife over her excessive drinking habits.
Felix Svova (25) appeared before Mbare magistrate Ms Gladys Moyo on Monday charged with domestic violence. Svosva pleaded for the court’s leniency arguing that he was a family man who was worried about the well-being of his minor child.
“Your worship, my son is 11 months old and I am the breadwinner. I assaulted my wife out of anger when I saw her drinking beer at a bar,” he said. Ms Moyo warned Svosva to resolve his marital disputes in a civilised manner.
“You should not resolve your problems with violence. Find more amicable ways of resolving your disputes, especially with your wife,” she said.
Ms Moyo also told Svosva that if he committed a similar offence in the next five years, he will be incarcerated without the option of a fine or community service.
Facts are that on June 13 Svosva followed Precious Dube (24) at Makomva Shopping Centre where she was drinking beer. He got angry with Dube and used an empty bottle to assault her several times on her head. Dube sustained injuries on the head.
Mr Stanley Musekiwa prosecuted.
