Terrence Mawawa| Scores of Zimbabweans based in South Africa besieged the Zimbabwean embassy in that country threatening to torch the premises in protest against President Robert Mugabe’s administration.
South African television channel e-tv reported yesterday scores of angry Zimbabweans based in the neighbouring country demanded to see the embassy officials over the crisis rocking the former bread basket of Africa, many say has been reduced to a basket case. South African police details were seen on e-tv battling to control the angry mob.
The people have vowed to stage demonstrations across all provinces of that country to force Mugabe and his cronies to step down. Zimbabweans are demanding that Mugabe, who has been in power since 1980 must step down following the failure by the government to pay civil servants, ZRP ineptitude, rampant corruption and the ban imposed on imported goods. “We are not leaving this place until we meet the embassy officials. We want them to address us on the current crisis in Zimbabwe. We have suffered for too long so we will not leave the embassy premises until the emissaries address us. We are ready to die for Zimbabwe. We are prepared for anything so there is no going back.This is just the beginning of our protests. This time we will not rest until Mugabe steps down.
The people of Zimbabwe have been taken for granted for too long so we are saying we are fed up with this level of tyranny,” a Zimbabwean lady based in Johannesburg, told e-news earlier today.
