Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo|A Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), has been dragged to court for allegedly raping and infecting a minor with a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI), it has emerged.

Constable Hugh Zvidzai Bhunu appeared before Masvingo Magistrate Langton Ndokera facing rape charges last week.

Bhunu is stationed at Chidzikwe Police Camp, Masvingo Rural Section.
He allegedly committed the rape offence on October 13, 2016.

The court heard that Bhunu offered a lift to the 17-year-old girl as she was walking home and she accepted. Bhunu then drove his motor vehicle into a bushy area. He parked the vehicle, jumped to the back seat and forcibly undressed the minor. He then went on to rape her.
The girl said she tried to scream for help but nobody heard her. She then went home and Bhunu followed her. He told the girl’s grandmother he wanted to marry the minor. He further claimed he would take good care of the minor.
“Bhunu initially promised to marry the minor but he later changed his stance when the girl had asked for money to buy medication since he had infected her with an STI. There are strong indications that Bhunu intentionally infected the minor with the STI,” the court heard.

The girl’s condition worsened as she failed to get treatment. Her mother then reported the matter to the police, leading to Bhunu’s arrest.
