Advocate Nelson Chamisa who now leads the MDC Alliance was once the youngest MP in Zimbabwe, at 25 years old. The vibrant outspoken Chamisa then became a minister and now leads Zimbabwe’s biggest opposition party. At 40 he is the youngest Presidential candidate. Following in his footsteps is 25 year old scientist and human rights activist, Joana Ruvimbo Mamombe, who has shown interest in standing in the Harare West constituency.Mamombe holds a Bsc in Biotechnology from the Chinhoyi University of Technology and Msc in Genetic Manipulation and molecular cell biology from the University of Sussex UK. Her research focused on cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.

Below is one of her campaigners writing.

Obey Tererai Sithole | Today I have decided to use this platform to share a story of one young and vibrant woman whom I have had the privilege not only to know but to work with and share a lot with in the Zimbabwean democratic journey. Her name is Joana Ruvimbo Mamombe a.k.a Madikizela, she is 25 years old. Guess what, at 25 she has exhibited great capacity in fighting for a just, free and democratic Zimbabwe.

She was victimised, brutalised and arrested but that has never killed her resolve to fight on. This year, ahead of the 2018 elections she has decided to take the fight to the house of assembly representing the people of Harare West under the MDC Alliance ticket.
In a few weeks she shall be going through the party primaries to win the ticket, many have tried to ridicule her for the decision run but that’s unfortunate because we are with her.
I know she is capable because she has led before, she still leads and the results speak for her. We need such young and vibrant minds in parly, a rare calibre she is coming from the STEM family.
Contestation is democracy, let our Joana run the race!!!
