Own Correspondent|PROMINENT Bulawayo activist and Bulawayo South Constituency losing candidate Josphat Ngulube was yesterday convicted of torching three cars, destroying a precast wall and breaking several windows at a house belonging to Zanu-PF Bulawayo provincial women’s league chairperson Eva Bitu.

Ngulube committed the offence during violent January protests against a steep fuel price hike announced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Bulawayo provincial magistrate Tinashe Tashaya convicted Ngulube together with Fortune Masuku, Otilia Sibanda and Melusi Moyo Ngulube’s fourth accomplice, Lavenda Moyo was, however, found not guilty and acquitted. In passing judgment, Tashaya discredited the four’s alibis, saying they lacked credibility.

In his defence, Ngulube had produced a video showing that he was at a funeral service in Sizinda at the time the offence was committed but Tashaya said it does not fully exonerate him as the time factor was unaccounted for.
