By A Correspondent- A 30 year old Zimbabwean national has been sentenced to five years in prison in South Africa for issuing and selling Zimbabwean and South African drivers’ licenses as well as asylum seeker temporary permits and passports.
Peter Makuvire appeared at the Mothibistad Magistrate’s Court near Kuruman, in the Northern Cape where he was convicted of fraud and contravening the Immigration Act.
Makuvire was arrested in 2029. He reportedly charged between R1 000 and R 2500 for the fake documents.
Provincial Hawks spokesperson, Nomthandazo Mnisi, said Mapuvire will serve an effective five years direct imprisonment.
Said Mnisi:
Mapuvire was sentenced to eight years’ imprisonment of which three years is suspended for the period of five years, he will serve an effective five years direct imprisonment without an option of a fine.
