The embattled Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa, has revealed that the late ZANLA Commander General, Josiah Magama Tongogara, was assassinated by ‘some people’ and did not die of an accident as the late general’s notorious girlfriend Oppah Muchinguri, present with him at the time, has for a long time claimed.
The Zim government had until today signed Muchinguri’s account as fact but Mnangagwa says the man was instead killed of human hands.
The development has thrown a blanket of humiliation on Muchinguri who has even gone in front of cameras to defend her car accident claim.
Tongogara was also Mnangagwa’s brother in law.
The VP’s shocking revelation now flashes suggestions that Tongogara, then the most powerful military man during the cross over period, was killed because people in President Robert Mugabe’s heirarchy did not want him to take over as leader of the country.
Mnangagwa told state journalists that Tongogara who did not taste the free Zimbabwe, had his car attacked in Inyembani in Mozambique on the 26th of December 1979 on his way back to Zimbabwe soon after the signing of the ceasefire agreement at Lancaster House in Britain.
His girlfriend Muchinguri came out of the said “accident” without a scratch.
“I don’t know what I can say because General Tongo was a dedicated fighter,” said Mnangagwa.
The bitter Mnangagwa who is being fought left right and centre by Mugabe and his wife Grace, said Tongogara told him that he knew “his internal” enemies who were planning to block him from leading the country which was about to gain its independence.
“He would often say if I don’t make it into independent Zimbabwe, make sure that you go and unite people. He would say we are not fighting against white people or individuals but against an evil and racial system”.
Mnangagwa, worked with Tongogara during the liberation struggle and is also related to the late national hero having married the general’s sister.

I did go to the village where General Tongo was alleged to have had an accident. The villagers confirmed that when Samora arrived at the scene, he immediately ordered the shooting of the driver. This is because the driver knew of the plot and he stopped for another Comrade to relieve himself in the bush.The question to the driver was why stopping as the rules stipulated no stopping as stopping provided more direct attack than a moving vehicle in the bush. That is when men emerged from the bush. There was a myth that no bullet could hit Tongo, unless fired by a woman. So Oppah had to fire the bullet himself that killed Tongo.This killing meant that Mugabe had to do all that Oppah demanded, and have a child together.Fortunately for historians, some of the villagers who witnessed the full scene are still alive and can easily chronicle the event.All it needs is to go Carbo Del Garbo and get the military clearance to go and do the research.It costs less than US 400 and will help save the people from lies and stupid allegations.If you go to the village ask for the old men Simango and Mopane,i saw them the last time on my visit and are key witnesses.This is from a veteran who was there in the struggle and who got pained by the killing of the late General, who was a homeboy and well connected to the fighters.The problem is that too many people speculate, hoping to win favours.But the truth lies in the small Mozambican village.So go there and get the truth first hand
