The European Union says it is “irritated” by the continued silence by President Robert Mugabe on the disappearance of the abducted rights activist Itai Dzamara.
Dzamara was abducted by suspected members of the dreaded Central Intelligence Organisation CIO in Harare on 9 March.
He was staging peaceful protests against President Robert Mugabe’s “misrule”.
Since his abduction western countries have been pressurizing Mugabe to search and bring him back alive.
Government has angrily reacted to the pressure and threatened to deport any foreign diplomat who continues to demand Dzamara’s whereabouts.
Civil society organizations have also offered a token to anyone with information leading to Dzamara’s whereabouts.[lightbox link=”http://www.zimeye.com/http://www.zimeye.com/wp-content/live_images/2015/05/eu-flag2.jpg” thumb=”http://www.zimeye.com/http://www.zimeye.com/wp-content/live_images/2015/05/eu-flag2-387×232.jpg” width=”387″ align=”none” title=”eu-flag2″ frame=”true” icon=”image” caption=””]
In a statement Friday the EU said they will continue putting pressure on Harare until Dzamara is found.
“We will continue to watch progress on this case closely,”said EU.
“We remain deeply concerned about the continued lack of progress in this case.
“We call the legal obligation for the authorities to provide regular and thorough progress reports on their search for Mr Dzamara, as ordered by the High Court.
“The EU notes that it is the responsibility of all respondents in this case, not only the police, to take the necessary measures to ascertain Mr Dzamara’s whereabouts”.

They are those like Mr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai who came open to challenge Cde Robert Gabriel Mugabe but he didn’t abduct them….why had he sent dreaded CIO to slaughter Dzambara?….there is something fishy with the disappearance of this poor Dzambara….enemies of the Government of Zimbabwe can be involved to paint a bad name Zimbabwe Government….so let us all get rid of this Dzamaba problem…Zimbabweans are suffering a lot caused by these foreign forces…even though i can’t rule out he Zimbabwean Government as well…..
The EU is not wasting its time or energy reminding the regime that this is one issue that is not going to be swept under the carpet. The longer the regime fails to do some on this matter the bigger the issue will become! Watch and learn my friend, watch and learn!
Mugabe was caught between the hard rock and the deep blue sea on Dzamara: his defient demand for Mugabe to go could not be ignore for fear more people would join him. On the other hand there was always a risk that punishing him in anyway would only help draw attention to him.
By abducting Dzamara, the regime has turned him into a martyr!
The voices of those demanding the release of Dzamara are only going to grow louder until the regime release him or resign!
Dear EU,
Itai was kidnapped by CIO agents who accused him of being big headed. They tochered and eventually murdered him like many thousands that they have kidnapped and murdered since 1980. You either just keep quiet say nothing about it or do something. You can complain, express or appeal but the truth is that you are wasting your whatever energy unless you do what you can do. When Mugabe and his wife say “chibvisei apa” there is no going back.
