Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo| Veteran politician Josiah Dunira Hungwe has been summoned by Central Intelligence Organisation(CIO) bosses for influencing party members to block President Robert Mugabe’s candidature in the 2018 polls.
Hungwe equates Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa to Jesus Christ and at a recent function ceremony participated by ‘Prophet’ Andrew Wutaunashe(the latter who did not rebuke him), Hungwe introduced Mnangagwa as “the Son Of God.”
ZimEye.com is reliably informed Mugabe ordered the CIO to summon Hungwe over his role in the succession battle. In a move that could end the former governor’s lengthy political career, Mugabe demanded an explanation from Hungwe, who is said to be a member of a faction backing Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Coincidentally Hungwe is also a former Rhodesian spy in the former Ian Smith government before independence.
Impeccable party sources told ZimEye.com early this week Mugabe demanded assurance that the volatile province was still behind the nonagenarian.
Hungwe has been in and out of the intelligence offices to put the record straight, it has emerged.
Zanu PF Masvingo Provincial chairman, Amasa Nenjana, who is a strong member of the G40 team backing the First Lady, Grace Mugabe, confirmed Hungwe was confronted by the CIO following Mugabe’s directive.
“The consultations with the districts came soon after Hungwe was called by the president’s office to clarify succession issues. Hungwe was asked to put the record straight on the hot succession issue,” said Nenjana.
He said there were no sacred cows on the issue since all those who are against Mugabe will be dismissed from the party. “We are in the process of finding out those who called on the president to step down. Such people will be dealt with accordingly,” added Nenjana.
A crest-fallen Hungwe was spotted at a heated Zanu PF Provincial Coordinating Committee at the weekend.
As the Zanu PF succession battles continue, senior party officials including Hungwe are likely to face the boot as tension continues to mount in the troubled ruling party.

In the Guky party, all positions are selective. It is only the despot who is elected. One man one vote and the only man is Dzasukwa himself.
What is wrong with any member of the party aspiring to be president or to nominate someone other than mugabe. It is quite in order and democratic.
It is also in the constitution of the party, it’s about time someone stand up to this nonsense and put an end to such barbaric, outdated primitive behaviour. Why include elections in the party constitution if no one is allowed to be elected.
Hungwe should sacrifice himself and stand up to his democratic right.
