South Africa Speaker of Parliament, Baleka Mbete has defended the military intervention in Zimbabwe which forced former President Robert Mugabe out of power, saying it was necessary as the ex-first lady, Grace Mugabe had captured the State.

In an interview with SABC News 404, Mbete said ordinarily, the military should not intervene in civilian politics, when everything was going well at political level.

“But when at a political level when one member of the first family (Grace) thinks she has the right to just determine who should be thrown out, (and) a whole Vice-President is removed,” she said in reference to President Emmerson Mnangagwa who was unceremoniously fired by Mugabe at the instigation of Grace.

“I think for a right thinking person, anybody that has the possibility to intervene, to create the space for politics to continue, I think has the responsibility and they took it. And they did it.
