Mnangagwa Retires Chiwenga Amid VP Appointment

By Langton Ncube|The Zimbabwe Defence Forces Commander General Constantino Chiwenga has been  retired from the Army amid reports that he was warming up for the Vice President’s post.

Chiwenga who assisted Emmerson Mnangagwa to ascend to the position of the country’s President last month, has been replaced by Lt General Phillip Valerio Sibanda.

The retirement of Chiwenga was announced on Monday by the chief secretary to the President and cabinet, Misheck  Sibanda.

President Mnangagwa last week delayed the appointments of his two deputies saying that he was going to do so in a “few” days time.
