A Masvingo based Non Governmental Organisation, Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development(COTRAD), has bemoaned the chaotic manner in which the Voters’ Roll inspection process is being carried out by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission(ZEC).
COTRAD has pointed out that there are numerous setbacks in the whole process.
COTRAD Programmes Manager Zivanai Muzorodzi yesterday said:
There are some hiccups in the verification process. Voter educators came to the communities just two days before the commencement of the inspection process.
There is need for ample time to educate potential voters before inspection.
The accreditation fee for local observers is exorbitant and diabolical.
The online verification system is erratic.
We are also concerned about poor information dissemination methods in the rural areas.
We therefore implore ZEC to collaborate with local organic groups like burial societies, deep tank leaders, traditional leaders ,churches ,people living with disabilities, youth and women groups.
We also urge ZEC to reduce the local observer’s fee. In addition there is need to open information kiosks at ward level.”
