Football coach Aliou Cisse of Senegal has reignited the debate on race and sport as he turns out to be the only black coach at the current World Cup tournament.

Black football managers both at club level and international scene are very few whilst most leagues have lots of black players around the world. Most European national teams now have black players in their squads with France and England in the lead, but the reality is there is still no black managers at top level.

Senegalese coach might be happy that his team beat Poland in their opening match but says the reality of being the only black manager at the World Cup annoys him.

Senegal coach Aliou Cisse: “Indeed I am the only black coach in this tournament. It’s a painful reality that annoys me, i believe that football is universal, i believe that skin color has little importance in the game”

Most African countries prefer foreign coaches in pursuit of football success but some commentators believe there is no proof that this brings success at the end.
