Former liberation war icon Robert Mugabe has disclosed that he attempted to resign five times before his forced resignation last year.

According to SABC News Mugabe conceded that certain elements within the ruling party Zanu PF held him back.

Mugabe also revealed that he had planned to step down at the Zanu PF Congress.

However the former President would not reveal who actually blocked him from stepping down.

Speaking during today’ s news conference at the Blue Roof Mugabe said he wanted former Defence Minister Sydney Sekeramayi to succeed him.

Mugabe also said Sekerami had agreed to assume the party’ s leadership.
