South Africa Records 6 000 Covid-19 Deaths, As Cases Surge To 400 000

South Africa Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, on Wednesday announced that the confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Africa have risen to 394 948. This is an increase of 13 150, as the total number of confirmed cases stood at 381 798 on Tuesday 21 July.

Mkhize announced an updated death toll of 5 940. This is an increase of 572 as it stood at 5 368 on Tuesday 21 July.

“Regrettably, we report 572 new COVID-19 related deaths. We convey our condolences to the loved ones of the departed and thank the healthcare workers who treated the deceased,” said Mkhize.

A total of 2 585 474 tests have been conducted to date with 48 553 new tests reported. There have been 229 175 recoveries thus far which translates to a recovery rate of 58%.
