By Farai D Hove| Zimbabwe Republic police officers caused the mass looting of both diamond and company property, parliament heard yesterday.

This was during the period when Robert Mugabe was President and he personally ordered that profitable mines be shut down and government take over all the fields.

During the hearing before the parliamentary portfolio for mines yesterday, the Mbada Diamonds Chief Security Officer began speaking saying a convoy of 200 ZRP cops drove towards his gate …and proceeded to demand entry.

They included one Beniah Mabodza, and the most senior of the cops was an unnamed female officer.

“They approached … and demanded that I be searched… the next thing was that we have come to take over the mine. I then demanded documents…I then phoned the Mbada head office to find out if this is true. I was informed that the minister had given the company 90 days to close down…”

He said there was mass shooting of both diamonds and company property as soon as the police took over the mine.
