“Over 40k People Food Insecure Due To Tropical Cyclone Idai”: July Moyo

By Own Correspondent_ In his brief to the private sector on Tropical Cyclone Idai induced disaster, Local government minister July Moyo said over 40 000 people were rendered food insecure following the natural disaster which ravaged Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Malawi last week.

Moyo said a total of 40 064 were rendered food insecure in Chipinge, Chimanimani and Bikita, areas which were severely affected by Tropical Cyclone Idai.

Said Moyo:

“Government recorded confirmed 329 cases of missing people, 186 injuries 38 of which are severe and 52 who were airlifted to Skyline.

A total of 6 788 people were displaced from their homes while 3 500 children were affected by the cyclone induced floods and destruction. Government also recorded 2 000 displaced refugees and 7 703 houses were affected one way or the other by the cyclone. At least 10 bridges were damaged and 40 064 people rendered food insecure.”
