Farai Dziva|MDC Secretary for Public Service and Social Welfare, Maureen Kademaunga has bemoaned the pathetic state of the public service system in the country.

See Kademaunga’s statement
:Following my election into the MDC National Executive Council as Mashonaland East representative, I am grateful to have been further appointed to a key portfolio of the party, to represent and defend the interests of the working people and the marginalized.

The appointment comes at a time when Zimbabwe’s Public Service is in shambles and the Social Welfare system incompetent and abandoned.

Public servants are working for a song and the poor are vulnerable with no social safety nets.

The MDC has in the SMART Policy Blue Print placed at the fore labour rights and committed to a huge social agenda.

In line with those policies, the MDC portfolio of Public Service and Social Welfare will design a program of action focusing on the following:

  1. De-politicisation ,de-militarisation and professionalisation of the Public Service.
  2. Employment reforms including a minimum wage,a 42 hour working week, paid overtime, paid annual leave, paid maternity leave, employer contribution to medical aid and NSSA reform for secure pensions.
  3. Administrative and fiscal decentralisation of the Public Service.
  4. Combating corruption in the Public Service to ensure effective, timely and courteous service delivery.
5.Rehabilitation of Victims of Political violence including psycho-support and welfare for political prisoners
6.A comprehensive welfare for special constituencies including ophans, war veterans and the elderly.

This agenda will in part fulfill the obligation to Define A New Course for Zimbabwe,we will place the citizen at the centre of our endevour to seek a fair and just society.

In Service of Humanity,

Maureen Kademaunga
Secretary for Public Service and Social Welfare
