By A Correspondent- A Ntabazinduna man was hauled to court for stock theft after sneaking into his neighbors’ kraal and slaughtering a sheep.
The accused person (known as Vusumuzi) from Bhekeni village under Chief Khayisa jurisdiction appeared before a Bulawayo magistrate and pleaded guilty to stock theft charges.
In his defense, the accused person told the court that he had succumbed to pressure from his family who complained to him that they were tired of eating vegetables.
The pressure led him to commit the crime since he is the sole breadwinner in the family.
The state told the court that the accused person sneaked into one Mr Siboniso Sibanda’s kraal during daylight, slaughtered the sheep and put it on a wheelbarrow before heading home. He was arrested after Sibanda’s herdboy reported the matter to the police.
He was sentenced to perform 350 hours of community service at Nhlambabaloyi primary school.
Community members from Bhekeni village are said to be complaining that the magistrate was lenient towards the accused person and they now fear they will lose more livestock to stock theft. -statemedia
