Morgen Says Majome Over-reacted

The MDC-T national chairman, Morgen Komichi says Harare West MP Jessie Majome over-reacted when she withdrew from the party’s primary elections.

Komichi denied serious allegations which say the party wanted to impose the other candidate, Joanna Mamombe.

He said Majome preempted the party’s strategy and it was all premature.

Komichi who created the confusion by introducing a conflicting elections policy, told the Daily News, “we first want to hear people’s views, we cannot impose candidates but we must engage through negotiations. We cannot have one person stopping a process but the truth is she pre-empted our strategy.

“We are supposed to look into Harare today and determine who goes to proportional representatives if both candidates are popular. We are aware of a possibility of independent candidates but she pre-empted our strategy, we were concerned by her fate and still are.”

MDC-T Regrets Violence During Election Candidates Selection

The MDC-T has said it regrets the violence that occurred during its election candidates selection process.

The party’s national chairman Morgen Komichi, said the party regrets the chaos and violence which affected its candidate selection meetings.

Speaking on violence, he said, “we are regretting that and we will definitely investigate if one of the candidates is involved, then we are going to mete justice on him or her.”

He was quoted by Newsday adding that “the reason for consensus is to allow people to interact and democratically negotiate to come up with one candidate. This is the only first stage of our candidate selection and if they fail to agree, then we are going to another process which is primary elections.”

Majome: I Won’t Join Another Party

The Harare West MP, Jessie Majome has spoken on her moves after dropping from the race for re election. Majome said she will not join another party.

Last week, Macdonald Ncube spoke on what pushed her into pulling out.

Ncube said, “The below is an outline of how Jessie Majome was forced out of the race for parliament. This has been drawn from my findings with all stakeholders including the leadership here in Harare (including Chairman Morgan Komichi). –  The MDC-T internal election policy was not clear at all (likely deliberately so) and in the process Jessie Majome saw her opponent gaining unjustly as the 24 year old Joanna Mamombe was allowed to do as she willed at a time when contests were not allowed as per party policy. This was all party policy and nothing of Majome’s making. Mamombe benefited from the chaos created by leaders, who include National Chairman Morgan Komichi, a situation that clearly amounted to a coup. Majome was pushed into a corner where she ended up complaining about the $1,000 she was forced to pay under the policy in which she and other MPs were ordered to pay up so that they retain their seats uncontested. She had not at all sought not to be contested, as this was all party policy. When she began complaining about the money she paid, she was labelled names, at a time when the UK returnee, Joana Mamombe was allowed to illegally campaign, performing an act which was against standing party policy. Even as early as yesterday, some MDC-T senior officials were claiming that Majome’s post is secured and that Mamombe was campaigning illegally, adding to more confusion because according to National Chairman, Morgan Komichi, Majome has to contest, contrary to the $1,000 policy. Below is the outline –

1. As someone said yesterday, there was the $1000 policy, which later was changed to:

2. The CV policy, and then came

3. The Consensus Policy.

In conclusion – Majome was part of the group of MPs that was early this year forced to pay $1,000 each and told their seats would not be contested. This was under the late leader Morgan Tsvangirai. The policy was later shifted from one to the other and the only clear policy was published by Morgan Komichi just a few days ago. Before this, it was chaotic and Mamombe benefited from the chaos as she freely campaigned against party policy.”

This time, Majome told Newsday, “what I have done is to withdraw my candidature from the party primary elections. I have several options, but I am not intending to join anybody. However, as a citizen of Zimbabwe, I am considering and looking at what it is that I want to do. I still want to contribute to Harare West. I just thought I should let things go for now and think clearly about my next move. I will advise my constituents because everything I do is in their behalf. When I make the decision and I will do so before the coming elections, I will communicate this publicly.

“…I have made up my mind and also the nature of some of my concerns are long-term. Like, from last year, they have been telling all sitting MPs that they would not be contested and I am not sure how this will be reversed. For me, I am done and they can go ahead and have the primaries. I am no longer interested because as far as I am concerned, they will not be free and fair.”

Parly Speaker Says Khupe Deserved To Be Fired

Jacob Mudenda in parliament

By Paul Nyathi|The Speaker of Parliament advocate Jacob Mudedenda has responded to the court appeal by splinter MDC-T leader Thokozani Khupe saying that her expulsion from Parliament was done above board.

Mudenda said that Khupe’s recall was done within the dictates of the law and her constitutional challenge cannot pass at the courts.

Dr Khupe is contesting her expulsion arguing that Parliament turned a blind eye to its constitutional obligation to protect her tenure as a Member of Parliament when it endorsed her expulsion.

“I submit that on the facts alleged, it is impossible for that contention to be properly made and sustained particularly when the applicable legal principles are taken into account,” said Adv Mudenda.

“In the premises, I submit that the declaratur sought against first (Dr Khupe) and second (MDC-T) respondents have no legal grounding and may be dismissed with costs.”

Adv Mudenda said the Parliament decision was informed by the law and various decisions already made by the superior courts on cases similar to the present dispute.

“I and my office, have been guided by the various views expressed by this court in these kinds of matters as well as its pronouncements,” he said.

“We have in addition been guided by the law as we have always understood it. The allegations made by the applicant against me do not have any legal validity.”

Dr Khupe, who was the opposition party’s Proportional Representation Member of Parliament for Bulawayo Metropolitan, and Nelson Chamisa are locked in a fierce power struggle over control of the party’s name, logo and symbols.

The case is set to be heard in parliament on the 22nd of May.

Fuel Prices shoot Up

By Paul Nyathi|Zimbabweans woke up to a surprise fuel price hike on Monday morning which was not announced by government.

Petrol prices have gone up from $1,33 to between $1,39 and $1,40 a litre while that of diesel has shot up from $1,23 to $1,26 per litre.

Government reduced duty on fuels in January which saw a slight reduction in the price of fuel.

Fuel price increases are normally followed by a sharp increase in the price of basic commodities. These prices do not normally come down when fuel prices arw reduced.

In the last few weeks, the priceof bread and beef went up by about 10% and 25% respectively with no explainable reasons given.

There was a significant rise in the price of world crude oil after United States President Donald Trump announced that his country was pulling out of the Iranian nuclear deal recently.

As of Friday, the price of brent crude oil per barrel was $77.

Speaking to weekend media the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries president Sifelani Jabangwe said in tanden with the rise in international prices the price of fuel in Zimbabwe remained high and would affect producers though marginally.

“For those who have high usage of fuel in their businesses there could be some effects because we understand the prices have gone up due to the international price of oil,” he said.

“But the rise will be marginal because the prices have gone up by, say, just four cents.

“What we are saying is that the impact on price levels will be there but will be minimal.”

However, Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers president Denford Mutashu said the rise in fuel prices would have a huge impact on consumers.

“Any movement upwards on cost drivers is not welcome in an economy where most people are living under the poverty datum line and are ravaged by a shortage of foreign currency, which does not seem to have an end in sight,” he said.

“Price increases on fuel are not welcome as it is a slap in the face to the ease and cost of doing business in the economy.

“Like I said earlier, it may push production costs for manufacturers and subsequently affect the final price for the consumer in an environment that has not been competitive.”

Consumer Council of Zimbabwe executive director Rose Siyachitema said while the rise in fuel prices would impact the prices of basic commodities, the effect would be minimal.

“It is very difficult to attribute it (the rise in the price of basic commodities) to fuel on the market because there are issues on the market place like the shortage of cash…there is a basket of things that would cause the prices of goods to go up,” she said.

Code of conduct for political parties
Council reaffirmed its demand for a palpably free, fair and credible election and reaffirmed the commitment of the party to the Code of Conduct for political parties worked on by the political parties represented in Parliament in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Election Commission. Council endorsed the working draft of the code and mandated the Standing committee to work closely with other parties to ensure the adoption, launch and popularisation of the Code of Conduct.

Public media

Council lamented the continued lack of equal, fair and balanced coverage of electoral processes and political parties by the public media in the run up to the elections.

Electoral environment

Council once again expressed concern at the unsatisfactory electoral environment which still persists only a few months before the elections. In this regard, Council demanded the complete demilitarization of all electoral processes, including the recall back into barracks of all security personnel deployed in communities as part of Zanu PF election strategy. Council noted with concern the delays in the finalisation of the voters roll and the failure by ZEC to carry out adequate voter education and to ensure that voter registration is fully accessible to all Zimbabweans. Council appealed to ZEC to expedite the production of an accurate and clean biometric voters roll. Council noted that it is most likely that Zanu PF is planning to rig the elections using the ballot paper and in this regard mandated the Standing Committee to work with Alliance partners in the MDC Alliance in doing everything possible to cause ZEC and the government to adopt a public ballot procurement process that is open, transparent, verifiable and subject to audit so that the ballot paper will not be manipulated to predetermine against the will of the people and the electoral outcome.

Council requested the Standing Committee to make the issue of the procurement, printing, securing and distribution of the ballot paper the highest non-negotiable priority of the MDC Alliance.

MDC Alliance

Council expressed its commitment to working with Alliance partners to the fullest extent possible and reaffirmed the mandate previously given to the Standing Committee to work with Alliance partners within the limited time left to reach out to other significant opposition parties/ alliances/ coalitions so that the broadest and cohesive alliance/ coalition is built before the election.

BBC’s Stephen Sackur Lied On TV And Backed Mnangagwa

BBC’s Stephen Sackur with Nelson Chamisa

By Own Correspondent| More and more lies and tricks are being exposed from the BBC HARDtalk session which left MDC leader Nelson Chamisa harassed.

In the interview, BBC’s Stephen Sackur made false claims that President Emmerson Mnangagwa has bought corruption under control and also that he has set up a Truth And Reconciliation Commission on Gukurahundi.

The facts on the ground are that Mnangagwa’s government has vehemently refused to set up a Truth And Reconciliation commission on Gukurahundi and furthermore corruption is still dogging his administration.

But Sackur would in the same vein furthermore go to lengths to use words like “nonsense” and silly on Chamisa while making these false claims.

Sackur said,“he(Mnangagwa) did set up a Truth and Reconciliation Commission.”

This matter has been widely discussed across the media with Prof Jonathan Moyo blowing the trumpet on it and if anyone deserved the words nonsense and silly, it was the interviewer.

Thokozani Khupe Plays Pure Lacoste Croc

By Own Correspondent| The expelled former deputy President of the MDC-T Thokozani Khupe at the weekend was caught red handed on her party motives.

It was revealed that Khupe has followed Emmerson Mnangagwa to exclude the crucial subject of truth and reconciliation concerning the Gukurahundi massacres.

The development, many said, suggests that Khupe’s new political outfit is directly sponsored by ZANU PF since Emmerson Mnangagwa’s party has done the same, to avoid the subject of reconciliation procedures necessary to attend to Gukurahundi issues.

It was all exposed by the Bulawayo broadcast journalist, Zenzele Ndebele of the CITES organisation who said, “I just went through MDC-T lead by Khupe’s Manifesto, I didn’t see any reference to dealing with reconciliation issues, for instance, Gukurahundi. For a party that is headquartered in Matebeleland that is a glaring omission. We want to know how you are going to deal with these issues.”

Amiel Sibanda wrote on the Facebook website saying, “Khuphe is just an extension of mnagwagwa’s ZANU pf mina angimangali.”

To this Khupe’s party spokesperson Linda Masarira offered the following written reply saying, “The MDC-T B.E.S.T. Manifesto we unveiled is a shortened version for the voter, and does not offer full context to all the root causes of the problems we have. Admittedly, as pointed out, Gukurahundi is part of the root causes of the lack of development and marginalisation of Matebeleland which our manifesto packaged under the Devolution bullet point. The full version of our manifesto which will be posted on line later will address geographic specific contexts of the problems the country has, and will specifically portray the Gukurahundi issue as a causality to some of the lack of development in Matebeleland. It is however not accurate to say that the party is headquartered in Bulawayo, given the legal challenges yet to be settled. In any case Dr Khupe leads a national party whose location of offices headquarters have absolutely no reflection in the party policies.”

Chamisa Only Person Capable Of Ending Military Rule – Coltart

MDC-T leader, Nelson Chamisa is the only person capable of ending military rule, the former minister of education, David Coltart has claimed.

Coltart spoke a few days after touching down from the UK.

While in the London, Coltart was asked by ZimEye.com why his party the MDC Alliance should be trusted to fix Zimbabwe’s problems this time and he said, in his entire career, “the political atmosphere has never been as electric for change as it is now.”

Coltart published on his website a statement saying Chamisa is the man if the moment for this change to happen.

Below was the full text: I am back from the UK having accompanied MDC Alliance Presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa and Tendai Biti.

In the course of four days we met the British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, Africa Minister Harriet Baldwin, the Labour Shadow Foreign Secretary Emily Thornberry, senior MPs including Kate Hoey, Sir Henry Bellingham and Andrew Mitchell, a senior editorial team from the Economist, a senior editorial team from the Financial Times, including the editor, Lionel Barber, and other distinguished journalists like Matthew Parris. In addition Nelson Chamisa addressed the Oxford Students Union, Chatham House and was interviewed on BBC Hardtalk.

For a trip which was pulled together at short notice and financed on a shoe string budget it was a resounding success. Unlike ZANU PF delegations which draw on all of the resources of the State (and in some respects international institutions) this trip was funded solely on the generosity of individual Zimbabweans. I flew economy, stayed with friends in London and we all used the tube to get around. Tendai Biti paid for his own airfare.

Our message was simple – we like all Zimbabweans want our nation to prosper. But for it to prosper our Constitution must be respected in letter and spirit. We pointed out that there was gulf between the rhetoric of the Mnangagwa administration and action on the ground. We explained that for all the statements of commitment to a “free, fair and credible election” the reality is that less than 3 months from the election ZEC remains a biased, militarised institution. Furthermore the opaque process for the printing of the ballots using same tricks as 2013, the deployment of troops in rural areas, subtlety intimidating the electorate and the ongoing use of the ZBC, Herald and Chronicle as propaganda vehicles (in brazen defiance of clear Constitutional obligations) all show that this regime is not committed to a fair election. We stated that a fair election cannot solely consist of an election which is relatively violence free.

We also spoke about our economic policies – that unlike the “command economic policies” of ZANU PF we will respect the rule of law and the free market. Unlike ZANU PF which pays mere lip service to rooting our corruption but still keeps the most corrupt people in office, we will tackle it head on. Unlike ZANU PF which speaks of giving farmers 99 year leases, but does not do so in any way which gives farmers real security, we will grant bankable title to all farmers. Unlike ZANU PF which continues to spend money it doesn’t have, we will be responsible with the national purse and protect peoples’ savings, investments and bank deposits.

We spoke about our demonstrable track record – that this was not pie in the sky. We reminded our hosts that between 2009 and 2013 the economy grew, that people did have confidence in the banking system, that bank deposits grew, that people could get money out of banks, that schools did reopen, that hospitals did have drugs, that Zimbabweans did start to return home, and that a new Constitution was written and agreed to by millions of Zimbabweans.

We never at any time spoke about the need for sanctions. We made it quite clear that we, like all Zimbabweans, want to take the Nation forward, but that the best way of doing that was if whatever government takes power respects our own Zimbabwean laws and Constitution; that more than anything else we will make the country attractive to foreign investors again; that foreign investors can see through mere rhetoric and that the reason the economy has continued to plummet since Mugabe’s removal is because business confidence has not been restored by the new regime.

Our message was well received by all the people we spoke to. Most importantly Nelson Chamisa spoke eloquently and clearly about everything I have written about above, demonstrating that despite his relative youth he has the capacity to lead a new government well. At the end of our meeting with Boris Johnson he said how impressed he was by Nelson Chamisa. Inevitably there have been detractors, mainly from people who are now in the employ of the Mnangagwa regime or who write for the propaganda rags such as the Herald and the Chronicle. Nelson Chamisa was given a grilling on Hardtalk, as was to be expected. No doubt he has learned from the experience and he is a quick learner. Having done Hardtalk twice myself I know how demanding it is and I respect that he was prepared to go into the firing line – something his principal opponent in this election appears not prepared to do.

It is important to remember that Nelson Chamisa has known nothing else other than the crazy political environment which has existed in this country since he entered politics in September 1999. Ever since he was 3 years old Mnangagwa has held some type of office, during which time Zimbabwe has been plundered and devastated. He has been detained, beaten up and left for dead at Harare airport. He has had leadership thrust on him by his own National Executive following the untimely death of Morgan Tsvangirai, who clearly demonstrated his own faith in him before his death.

The amount of abuse being directed his way shows how much of a threat he poses to a de facto military regime which has a long and bloody history of murdering, torturing and brutalising its opponents. Despite all of this he is bravely campaigning and at the core of his message is non violence. He is the only leader campaigning country wide at present drawing thousands of people to his rallies in both rural and urban areas. Of course Nelson Chamisa has faults. All of us do. Of course he has made mistakes in some of his pronouncements – all of us have done so in our own political careers. None of is perfect – but at this moment in our history we cannot let perfection be the enemy of the good.

Notwithstanding these human flaws and the quality of some of the other Presidential candidates, Chamisa is the only competent person who realistically stands between ongoing de facto military rule and a new dawn for Zimbabwe. Everything else is simply pie in the sky. That is the harsh reality all those who dream of a new vibrant, tolerant and free Zimbabwe need to confront.

VIDEO: Mnangagwa Threatened With LIVE “Bhora Musango!” By Own Party Members

By Farai D Hove| President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been threatened with LIVE ball sabotaging by his own party members. In the below video party members can be seen screaming and singing allowed saying there is no problem if all fails we will just sabotage the ball game -” zvikaramba toita bhora musango!”

The song’s pivotal chorus, peaks into an emphatic loop on the loud whistling of, “Bhora musango!,” as the song continues to rotate around that same screamer.

Party members have been complaining for the last weak against the imposition of candidates for the upcoming elections… and this was all caused by the chaos that occurred during the party’s primary elections.

Parliament Says Khupe Is Groping In Void-Land

The parliament of Zimbabwe has dismissed the case by the expelled former MDC T deputy president Thokozani Khupe, saying she is groping in void land.

The Speaker Of Parliament said Court application is void and missguided.

Mr Jacob Mudenda made this statement in his submissions for the case currently scheduled for the 30th of May 2018. He said,

“I and my office, have been guided by the various views expressed by this court in these kinds of matters as well as its pronouncements. We have in addition been guided by the law as we have always understood it. The allegations made by the applicant against me do not have any legal validity.”

Mnangagwa’s Tsenengamu Tells Parties Not To Provide Legal Support To Arrested Activists

By Dorrothy Moyo| President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s protege on the youth front, Godfrey Tsenengamu, has told political parties not to provide lawyers for activists arrested om allegations of committing political violence.

He said this as he called for youths to shun violence and hate speech.

“Youths from different parties should shun violence and should not promote hate speech among members of their parties,” he said, quoted by the state media.

He continued saying, “all political parties’ leaders must not provide legal representation for people who have been arrested because of violence. Educate the general public about the code of conduct so that they can be well-informed.”

Chamisa’s BBC HardTalk Performance made Vote-Rigging And Murderous ED Look “Mature, Responsible and Wise”!

By Nomusa Garikai| Chamisa’s credibility has been questioned again and again in the past. On the BBC HardTalk programme he has come through as a someone with a knack to shoot himself in the foot before a race.

Chamisa can never deny that the way he seized power, just a day after Tsvangirai’s death and never allowed the other two VPs to throw their names in the hat, was clumsy and crass. Of course, Thoko Khupe had every right to reject the process out of hand and the resultant split in the MDC was therefore Chamisa’s fault.

“It wasn’t of course and of course what we did was within the constitution, we then did it much way after, in fact it was two weeks after the demise of our President that we had to have the internal processes that then gave way to a democratic outcome in terms of who should then be leading the MDC,” was Chamisa’s explanation.

MDC Alliance leaders have been at sixes and sevens as to where they stand as regards the implementation of democratic reforms. They have abandoned their “No reform, no election!” resolution and yet still want to give the impression they will pressure Zanu PF to implement their reform demands!

“Tendai Biti said “unless we get a clear commitment from the securocrats” by which I think he means the Zanu-PF military nexus “unless we get clear commitment from them that they won’t interfere the election” he says will be a “sham” and you have said if you don’t get your way on things like the ballot papers, you gonna bring the election to a halt, you are raising the temperature?” asked Stephen Sackur.

Of course, MDC leaders are just raising the political temperature and, worse still, making a mountain out of a mole hill. What the nation want is proper democratic reforms implemented and severe the undemocratic control the ruling party has over the securocrats, ZEC, etc. Restoring these state institutions’ independence once and once for all is essential. Getting some Army commander to issue a statement, which is what Biti is calling for, which cannot be enforced in law is a complete waste of time!

MDC leaders had the golden opportunity to implement all the democratic reforms, including security sector reforms, during the GNU. They failed to get even one reform implemented in five years.

SADC leaders have advised the MDC not to contest the elections without first implementing the reforms and they have refused to listen.

Zanu PF rigged the 2013 elections and will do the same this year. Participating in these flawed and illegal elections, hoping against hope to win rigged elections is insane! The nation would not be going through this foolish madness if MDC had implemented the reforms or at least have the intellect to listen SADC leaders’ sound advice.

“I suppose nobody would dispute that what Zimbabwe needs right now is mature, responsible, wise leadership?” Asked Sackur.

“Indeed!” admitted Chamisa.

“Would it not be true to say that in the months that he has had power, Emmerson Mnangagwa has exhibited all of those qualities? He did set-up a truth and reconciliation commission. He has insured that the process of the establishment of rules and parameters of elections are in place,” continued Sackur.

President Mnangagwa, a wise leader! What a laugh!

Like it or not Mnangagwa was a senior member throughout Mugabe’s 37 years reign and per se can never wash his hands of what happened in those years, especially when he played such a pivotal role in rigging election and using wanton violence to make sure Mugabe and Zanu PF remained in power. What wise leadership did he provide then?

One can forgive Stephen Sackur for not knowing that Justice Chihambakwe has investigation the Gukurahundi massacre. His report has never been made public. During the GNU, there were several ministers assigned to deal with peace and reconciliation. President Mnangagwa does not want to deal with this very thorny issue, especially since he has played a leading role, and by appointed another commission, he was kicking the ball into the tall grass. Of course, Chamisa and his MDC friends should know all these issues and flagged them up at every opportunity?

President Mnangagwa has pointedly refused to implement even one democratic reforms to ensure free and fair elections. Chamisa should have challenged Stephen Sackur to explain what these “rules and parameters of elections” Mnangagwa has established, given the nation is heading for yet another rigging election!

Chamisa’s performance on BBC HardTalk was so pathetic, he has made President Mnangagwa look “mature, responsible and wise” regardless of ED’s checked record of gross mismanagement, rampant corruption, blatant vote-rigging and murders.

Having to choose between Mnangagwa and Chamisa for next President is like having to choose to have one’s leg or arm cut-off – either way you will suffer and gain absolutely nothing!

The country is in a serious economic and political mess, 38 years and counting of blundering from pillar to post has left its mark. Worse than that, we are stuck! Neither Mnangagwa nor Chamisa will ever get the nation out of this mess!

These elections should not be taking place without first implementing the democratic reforms, a process designed to dismantle the oppressive Zanu PF dictatorship and the nation to open debate meaningful democratic competition. The dictatorship has stifled debate and made politics so dangerous only incompetent, corrupt and murderous thugs have emerged as leaders. In a healthy and functioning democracy, leaders are elected on the strength of the ideas they are offering and nothing else.

Implement the reforms and the thugs will not be able to rig elections and therefore have nowhere to hide.

Since nothing can be done now to stop these flawed and illegal elections going ahead, both Zanu PF and MDC are determined that the elections go ahead; the only way out is for the elections to be ruled null and void since they will not be free, fair and credible. Zimbabwe must revisit the 2008 raft of democratic reforms only this time the nation must make sure all reforms implemented. – SOURCE: zsdemocrats.blogspot.co.uk

AFM Pastors On Each Other’s Throats Over Top Job, Cash

It’s all about the money money money we just want the money money money, as the song says -senior AFM pastors have waged war on each other over who takes the top job. The development has seen the matter spilling into the courts.

One of the pastors, as ZimEye revealed last year, faked his birth certificate in order to qualify into age barrier that disqualifies a person from being the church leader.

The incumbent executive led by Pastor Aspher Madziyire, has allegedly overstayed and elections should now be conducted in the spirit of democracy.

Pastor Madziyire, who is the president of the church, together with 32 overseers heading AFM’s provinces, were elected into office in March 2015 and their tenure has since expired.

However, it is argued, the leadership has so far gone for two months, illegally running the church without holding elections.

Pastor Kefias Mujokeri, who is stationed at AFM’s Shalom Revival Centre in Kadoma, has instructed his lawyer Mr Joshua Chirambwe of Lawman Chimuriwo Law Chambers to file an urgent chamber application seeking to compel Pastor Madziyire to urgently proclaim the election date for the provincial and apostolic council.

In the High Court application, Pastor Mujokeri contends that Pastor Madziyire was clinging on to power and he must be ordered to, forthwith, stop holding himself out as the church’s president pending the holding of the election.

Pastor Madziyire, according to the court papers, was firstly elected as president in March 2003 before being re-elected for a further three year-term in March 2015.

However, the church is reportedly divided over earlier attempts by some members to push for the amendment of the constitution, to accommodate some of the ageing outgoing leadership.

Pastor Mujokeri said attempts were made to amend the constitution to allow pastors to contest for the posts despite reaching the mandatory retirement age of 65. Since April 28 2018, Pastor Mujokeri argues, the leadership led by Pastor Madziyire had been operating illegally.

“The election year ended on the 28th of April 2018 and the third respondents’ terms of office in the provincial councils and apostolic council ended on the same date.

“From this date, the second and third respondents, together with the other overseers ceased to legally hold office as overseers within the first respondent (AFM),” reads Pastor Mujokeri’s founding affidavit.

Pastor Mujokeri said the leadership, that he refers to as “past” leadership, was operating in violation of the church’s constitution.

The said the past leadership is also being accused of threatening those pushing for an election.

“As a result of the constitutional vacuum, the first respondent and its members, including me, have been left without recourse because the immediate past president and his deputy are publicly haggling over who has the power to call for an election.

“They have even gone to an extent of threatening the deputy president with disciplinary action because he had asked the second respondent (Pastor Madziyire) and secretary general to call the necessary meetings to finalise the election issues,” he said.

It is argued that the AFM is operating without legitimate leadership and that the election is required as a matter of urgency.

“As it stands, I, as a pastor and member of the first respondent, no longer have a legitimate leadership and we cannot continue to efficiently carry out our duties.

“I risk being exposed to legal suits for conducting my duties in the absence of a legitimate president who has the ultimate authority and mandate to conduct church business. The mandate to supervise, manage and represent the church is thrust upon the president and overseers, such that the church is now humstrung in its operations. All offices of signatories to accounts and other administrative functions have expired,” he said.

The matter is yet to be set down for hearing at the High Court.

How Mutsvangwa “Miraculously” Shoved His Way Through Primaries

Details have now emerged how the loud-mouthed controversial Presidential advisor Chris Mutsvangwa made his way through ZANU PF primaries and was anbounced winner Saturday night.

It has turned out that his opponent was pushed into bowing out of the race.

Langton Mutendereki, who had won the first time, confirmed that he had withdrawn from the race.

He said he decided to withdrawal for the sake of progress claiming, “yes, I have withdrawn my candidature from the primary election re-run. We can’t continue fighting for primary elections yet we have a general election that is coming. We need time to prepare for the general election so I decided to withdraw for the sake of progress in the party. I am now backing comrade Mutsvangwa as the party’s candidate and remember the general elections are just two months away from now.”

Muchinguri Slapped With High Court Verdict

The Minister Of Environment And Tourism, Oppah Muchinguri has been slapped with a High Court verdict that now reverses her water rates orders.

The Court has quashed the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Raw Water Tariffs) Statutory Instrument 48 of 2016, which hiked raw water charges for commercial agriculture from $9,45 to $12 per mega litre.

Justice David Mangota ruled that the Minister of acted unlawfully in hiking the tariffs, two years ago.

The ruling will come as a welcome boost to farmers and the Command Irrigation programme.

The ruling was made in favour of Hippo Valley Estates and Triangle Limited, the sister companies that grow sugar cane and process sugar.

Hippo Valley and Triangle argued that the minister unilaterally hiked the charges in disregard of agreements entered by the commercial farmers and Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa), which among other things, states that the parties should discuss and agree on the raw water tariff.

The minister, according to the agreements, can only chip in and gazette the fees in the event that the parties reach a deadlock.

In the court application, the two firms argued that they were never consulted on the fee hike and that there was no proof that Zinwa had applied for the intervention of the minister.

Advocate Thembinkosi Magwaliba represented the two companies in the court application.

To that end, Justice Mangota described the conduct of the minister as unlawful before granting the order sought by the two sugar companies.

“The respondent (minister) has no power at all to review water tariffs in the first agreement.

“She reviews the water tariffs in the second agreement where Zinwa and the second applicant (Triangle) have failed to agree on the tariff which must apply to the latter’s consumption of water for its operations.

“The respondent acted ultra vires the agreements when she reviewed the water tariffs for the applicants.

“She had neither the power nor the authority to do what she did. A fortiori when she acknowledges, as she does, the existence and, by necessary implication, the binding nature of the agreements which Zinwa’s predecessors signed with the applicants,” reads the judgment.

The judge said the minister, under the circumstances, can only act following a written request by Zinwa.

“It is not within respondent’s power to act in terms of Section 50 of the Zinwa Act without Zinwa having made any written representations to him or her on the issue of the proposed increase.

“There is, in casu, no evidence that Zinwa applied to the respondent to consider any proposed increase. There was, in fact, no proposed increase of water tariffs at all.

“Her (minister) conduct was ultra vires the enabling Act, so to speak,” said Justice Mangota.

The minister, Justice Mangota said, violated the companies’ right to administrative justice.

“Contrary to the agreements which required the applicants and Zinwa to discuss and agree on review of water tariffs, the respondent simply increased the same.

“She did not notify the applicants of the increase. She did not afford them an opportunity to make representations. She simply published the regulations as a bombshell.

“It was, at any rate, not within the scope of her work to review the water tariffs. That work was for Zinwa. Her work was to either approve or disapprove what Zinwa would have placed before her,” he said.

Justice Mangota said the Minister violated Section 56 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

The agreements relied upon were signed between Zinwa’s predecessors and the commercial farmers in 1961 and they still subsist.

Despite the agreements, Zinwa’s chief executive officer wrote to the companies informing them of the new tariffs, which were effective from December 1, 2015.

The new tariff was set at $12 per mega litre, up from $9,45.

Five months later, the minister then published the statutory instrument which sparked the legal battle.-state media

Khupe Deletes Gukurahundi From Own Manifesto

By Own Correspondent| The expelled former deputy President of the MDC-T Thokozani Khupe has stripped herself of her political garments in the Matebeleland regions by skipping the crucial subject of Gukurahundi reconciliation.

The development, many said, suggests that Khupe’s new political outfit is directly sponsored by ZANU PF since Emmerson Mnangagwa’s party has done the same, to avoid the subject of reconciliation procedures necessary to attend to Gukurahundi issues.

The development was exposed by the Bulawayo broadcast journalist, Zenzele Ndebele of the CITES who says,  “I just went through MDC-T lead by Khupe’s Manifesto, I didn’t see any reference to dealing with reconciliation issues, for instance, Gukurahundi.

Electoral Amendment Bill Ready To Be Law, Election Date To Be Announced

Parliament discusses the Electoral Amendment Bill last week.

By Paul Nyathi|The Electoral Amendment Bill is ready to be law and could be signed into the law by Friday this week at the latest.

Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi told media in an interview that the Bill which has passed through the House of Assembly will go through the Senate Upper House on Tuesday to make it in time for President Emmerson Mnangagwa to sign it into law by Friday.

The passing of the Bill has widely been viewed as the reason why the election date still remains un-proclaimed.

With ZEC claiming that the voters roll is ready for inspection, President Mnangagwa is then expected to declare the election date within the next few days.

According to constitutional provisions, Mnangagwa should have proclaimed the election date by the 28th of April failure to which he has an option to announce the election date within 21 days of that date.

BBC’s Lies Attacking Nelson Chamisa While Praising Mnangagwa: EXPOSED

Don’t Be Offended Like Mugabe, Open Letter To Mnangagwa

Off he goes! President Emmerson Mnangagwa on one of his trips condemned by the writer.

Dear Mr President|It’s been 5 Months since you, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa took over Zimbabwean Presidency from Robert Gabriel Mugabe. Mnangagwa seemed to give a certain sigh of relief and also hope to Zimbabweans. Let’s all take note of the fact that 5 months in office is a tenth of a presidential term. In his tenth of a presidential term President Mnangagwa has asked all Zimbabweans to be patient as he restores Zimbabwe surprisingly working together with an incompetent team of Ministers save for a few who seem to be enthusiastic and self driven to achieve a better Zimbabwe.

Mr President I want you to know that you were in government for more than 37 years and I know you know how you and Robert Mugabe have made a mess of Zimbabwe, i can not and should not be expected to be patient with your administration which features the same chuff that brought our once beloved country down to a poverty stricken society. I had hoped I could try giving you and your lot a chance but no I don’t think it’s worth the effort.

In Five months I have seen you travel just like Mugabe did, I have seen top government officials being sent to hospitals abroad just like during Mugabe era, I have seen cash shortages getting worse I have seen prices of goods go up despite you assigning a Vice President to look into those issues and manage them appropriately. I have seen the same Vice President firing all Nurses for demanding better conditions of service, that’s however a first and new trait which none of the past VPs of this country has ever done, yourself included.

Where exactly are we going Mr President, where are you taking us? Are we going exactly where Mugabe was taking us? If that’s the case we are all doomed yourself included because something will have to give.

You made sure clinics offer free services without the proper backing of such a decision, what’s the point really when one gets what is termed “Free Treatment” when one has to buy medicines for themselves, the truth is the masses are getting free Medical Consultations and Prescriptions to go and buy medicine which then defeats the purpose of the free treatment drive. Look into this and see how it is already proving unworthy.

Mr President you removed President Mugabe for being surrounded by criminals surprisingly in your recent meeting with war veterans you were once again exposed to the reality that you too have become surrounded by criminals. What does that mean to you? What it should mean is you are leading criminals, the whole Zanu PF is made up of criminal elements who call others criminals when it suits their mission and agenda.

Zimbabweans have suffered enough, your past 38 years in power have brought no solutions but even more problems, Zimbabweans are leaving the country in numbers, none of your diaspora based supporters have even shown any trust in you by relocating back home, they don’t believe in you and your party though day in day out they are faking it on social media.

We are suffering Mr President,i just think if you love Zimbabwe all of you should ship out and let people with ideas lead this country.
Hope you don’t get offended, during Mugabe era there were people who took offense when we said exactly what I have just said here but given that it’s a new dispensation as you call it I hope I remain safe and not threatened after this.
Thank you

Madinda Ndlovu Blasts Unruly Bosso Fans

Terrence Mawawa

Highlanders FC head coach Madinda Ndlovu has castigated unruly Bosso fans for violent behaviour.

Bosso supporters invaded the bay housing Yadah fans towards the end of the match and attacked them for holding on to a match ball that had gone out of play.

“I don’t condone violence, and I want to speak in strongest terms against what those fans did in the terraces. That is not the Highlanders culture. We want a Highlanders with dignity.

No matter the result, fans should always behave in a dignified way,” said Ndlovu.

Two of the fans had to be restrained by the police as they tried to throw a Yadah supporter from the grandstand.

Highlanders’ performance was below-par and had goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda to thank after some suicide saves in the second half.

Mujuru Is The Real Deal- NPP

Mujuru

Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo

National People’s Party (NPP) has postulated that Joice Mujuru will romp to victory in the coming elections because she is a visionary leader and a seasoned political figure.

NPP Spokesperson Jeffryson Chitando yesterday said the party was geared for the coming polls.

Below is part of the NPP vision:

The Masvingo housing waiting list is a cause for concern.

Some houses- which were built during the colonial era – are no longer suitable for human shelter.

NPP’ s vision on housing:

We will engage Building Societies to develop low cost housing in a similar model to the ZBS houses(Chesvingo ward 5 houses).

Council is supposed to service land instead of leaving it to private individuals who will aim to swindle ordinary citizens.

MDC Scoffs At Zanu PF List Of Jaded Candidates

NATIONAL NEWS

NATIONAL NEWS

Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo

The country’ s main opposition party, MDC has scoffed at the list of Parliamentary candidates that was released by Zanu PF last night.

According to a statement released by the MDC Veterans Activists Association in Masvingo, the list portrays the hopelessness of the ruling party.

“It has been proven beyond doubt that the ruling party is clueless and devoid of ideas on how to revive the economy.

By recycling the same apparatchiks, nobody can be hoodwinked into believing that the Zanu PF aspiring candidates can suddenly become saints,” read part of the statement.

Britain Responds To Rumours That It Is Supporting Emmerson Mnangagwa, Says It’s Blowing $24mln For 2018 Elections Supporting Activists

By Farai D Hove| The British embassy in Harare has responded to swirling rumours that say it is supporting President Emmerson Mnangagwa win the upcoming 2018 elections.

They were replying Professor Jonathan Moyo who has alleged that the ambassador is compromised because she was once seen wearing what he termed Mnangagwa’s voodoo scarf. Moyo also claimed that the recent BBC HARDtalk interview of Nelson Chamisa was influenced by the British government’s foreign policy.

But the British embassy said, “knows the BBC is ruthlessly impartial and takes pride in giving all politicians – including and perhaps especially British ones – a hard time. The idea they would take instructions from the UK Embassy in Harare is laughable.

“Any actual substantive evidence of bias? We are spending £24 million on support to civil society this election cycle – to try and support #freeandfairelections. Would we bother if we wanted one candidate to win?”

Below was their full reply:

Jonathan Moyo Backs Chamisa

……

By Own Correspondent| The exiled former ZANU PF strategist, Professor Jonathan Moyo on Sunday came out supporting MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa. This all came as Chamisa appeared to rise in public energy as seen in his three weekend rallies which ended on Sunday afternoon.

Prof Moyo who was once President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s and the whole of ZANU PF’s  chief strategist, appeared riled by the recent BBC interview that saw Nelson Chamisa being unfairly embarrassed by the BBC’s Stephen Sackur.

Prof Moyo appeared to suggest that the British embassy had something to do with the BBC interview. He however did not provide evidence on the allegation.

Ambassador Catriona Laing who could not be reached for comemnt at the time of writing, has in recent days, to the contrary, appeared in public side by side, Nelson Chamisa calling for a return to democracy in this year’s national elections.

But Prof Moyo wrote declaring his claims as he digitally said, “it’s bad to see @CatrionaLaing1 coming out of 10 Downing Street wearing a dictator’s Voodoo Scarf and worse for #UK to use @BBCHARDtalk to subvert the will of Zimbabweans on behalf of an incumbent mass murderer as it did in 1980!”

What Zimbabweans Are Saying About Chamisa’ s Hardtalk Interview

Nelson Chamisa on BBC Hardtalk

Zimbabweans in and out of the country have mixed sentiments on MDC leader Nelson Chamisa’ s BBC Hardltalk interview.

Below are some comments from Facebook users on the interview:

Maureen Kademaunga yesterday wrote:
“Dear Sackur, What is silly beyond nonsense is your inability to
accept that an African can dream for Africa
standards that are beyond current western
standards.”

Simba Usore said ” Surely and honestly you don’t expect any

Shingi Pride said
“It is not about an African dreaming, it’s about

MDC National Spokesperson, Kurauone Chihwayi said the party’s highest decision making body, the National Council  met in Harare on Saturday 12 May 2018 and deliberated on several issues including the forthcoming harmonised polls.

“Council approved candidates for House of Assembly seats allocated to the party in terms of the MDC Alliance agreement,” said Chihwayi.

The following were approved to contest for the National Assembly seats in the forthcoming polls under the MDC Alliance.

The party also deliberated on the code of conduct for political parties reiterating the party’s demand for a palpably free, fair and credible election.

“The MDC reaffirmed the commitment of the party to the Code of Conduct for political parties worked on by the political parties represented in Parliament in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Election Commission,” said Chihwayi.

He said the National Council endorsed the working draft of the code and mandated the Standing committee to work closely with other parties to ensure the adoption, launch and popularisation of the Code of Conduct.

However, the party lamented the continued lack of equal, fair and balanced coverage of electoral processes and political parties by the public media in the run up to the elections.

“Council once again expressed concern at the unsatisfactory electoral environment which still persists only a few months before the elections.

In this regard, Council demanded the complete demilitarization of all electoral processes, including the recall back into barracks of all security personnel deployed in communities as part of Zanu PF election strategy,” said Chihwayi.

The MDC also noted with concern the delays in the finalisation of the voters roll and the failure by ZEC to carry out adequate voter education and to ensure that voter registration is fully accessible to all Zimbabweans.

“Council appealed to ZEC to expedite the production of an accurate and clean biometric voters roll. It is most likely that Zanu PF is planning to rig the elections using the ballot paper,” said the MDC.

In this regard the Standing Committee was given the task of working with Alliance partners in the MDC Alliance in doing everything possible to cause ZEC and the government to adopt a public ballot procurement process that is open, transparent, verifiable and subject to audit so that the ballot paper will not be manipulated to predetermine against the will of the people and the electoral outcome.

“Council requested the Standing Committee to make the issue of the procurement, printing, securing and distribution of the ballot paper the highest non negotiable priority of the MDC Alliance,” said the MDC.

Chihwayi said regarding the Alliance, his party expressed its commitment to working with other Alliance partners to the fullest extent possible.

“The party reaffirmed the mandate previously given to the Standing Committee to work with Alliance partners within the limited time left to reach out to other significant opposition parties, alliances, coalitions so that the broadest and cohesive alliance and coalition is built before the election,” said Chihwayi.

Chamisa Commended For Oozing With Confidence On Hardtalk

Nelson Chamisa

Terrence Mawawa

Despite a vicious onslaught by the state media to discredit MDC leader Nelson Chamisa , a social media analyst has commended the youthful president for holding his nerve during the crunch interview on BBC.

Prominent social media analyst Antony Taruvinga yesterday said:
What did you expect from BBC when the broadcaster predicted
a Trump loss against all the ground evidence
pointing to his victory?

Trump is now the
President of America. Hillary is hidden somewhere.

The Chamisa Hardtalk interview proved to the world that bias
and lack of correct information reigns supreme at
BBC.

It actually looked like Emmerson Mnangagwa
was interviewing Nelson Chamisa”

Opinion: Reflecting on Chamisa’s BBC HardTalk

“Suckur was unfair to Chamisa” writes Hopewell Chin’ono.

I have finally watched the BBC’s Hard Talk interview with Nelson Chamisa.

I hardly comment on colleagues and their work but I take exception on this occasion.
I speak here as a British trained journalist whose training includes working at the BBC.

Stephen Sucker was unfair to Nelson Chamisa. He would never speak like that to Donald Trump and yet journalism requires fairness regardless of one’s station in life.

Stephen Suckur peddled a lot of myths and gossip which is embarrassing for a journalist of his stature and embarrassing for an organization like the BBC.

Nelson Chamisa was not prepared for the interview but that did not warrant a disrespectful posture by Suckur.

Suckur has clearly made up his mind on the next general election’s result, that is his own right.

But he shouldn’t think that it is good journalism to use a candidate or interviewee to validate his already held views which in my opinion were not rooted in facts but scurrilous gossip.

Making declaratory statements about the election outcome to me is not only wrong without explaining why, it brings into question the impartiality of the journalist and the organization he represents.

Nelson was a victim of terrible research on the part of the program’s producers. He was also a victim of his own lack of preparedness.

He should have been sharper, structured and simple. Petina Gappah was right when she said that Wamba shouldn’t have agreed to do the interview in the first place.
She was also right that he should keep it simple.

As I said earlier, Nero can be judged on this one if his adversaries are also subjected to the same program format which I know they won’t agree to.

Nelson Chamisa’s team must engage with the international community because his team has clearly lost that battle with the Brits.

The BBC is part of the British establishment so it is not surprising that it has followed the lead of its government.

British journalists talk to their ambassadors or foreign office especially before such a big interview.

The insights they get will invariably shape the nature and outcome of their journalistic enterprise.

Chamisa must stop his team members like Tendai Biti from attacking the British ambassador on social media.

Those cheap attacks do nothing but pull back their agenda retrogressively.
Emmerson Mnangagwa has been building his relationship with the British since around 2014 through his business and industry surrogates.

Nelson has built a bad reputation of not taking western diplomats seriously. These are the people who will define whether the election is credible or not.

His HardTalk experience is a result of not taking care of these relationships. He should chose if he wants to be an island or join the rest of the world by engaging with their envoys in Harare.

Currently those relationships are broken. I have heard the Stephen Suckur sentiments expressed on many occasions in diplomatic compounds!

Wamba must take note of advice and what people are saying.

Emmerson Mnangagwa is taking note of what people are saying and is talking to everyone regardless of the power he has.

Those engagements have led to the confidence that many including Stephen Suckur now have in an Emmerson Mnangagwa victory and presidency out of a credible election.

That confidence should however not extend to insulting his guests on HardTalk.

Nelson was extremely restrained, Suckur could never have spoken like that to Julius Malema.

HardTalk does not mean insults and condescending attitudes. I simply means tough questions asked in a fair and respectful manner.

The architect of this format Sir Robin Day would probably turn in his grave at how Stephen Suckur conducted the interview.

Not even veteran inquisitors like Jeremy Paxman or John Humphreys would use words like NONSENSE

Magaya Praise Team Goes For Healing Prayer After Thorough Beating At Soccer Match

Video of Highlanders fans attacking Yadah Fans

File Picture of a hate message from Highlanders Fans

By Paul Nyathi|About forty members of the Walter Magaya PHD Ministries Church on Sunday sort healing prayers at the church on injuries incurred after being thoroughly beaten by Highlanders Football Club thuggish soccer fans on Saturday.

A ZimEye.com source at the church said that the soccer loving members of the church, most of them women, were on Sunday morning spotted receiving prayers for their varied injuries from church elders before the arrival of prophet Magaya.

The Magaya owned Yadah Stars Football Club handful fans were on Saturday brutally attacked at the National Sports Stadium by Highlanders fans who had travelled with the team from Bulawayo.

The incident occured with about five minutes of play left in the match between the church side and the suddenly battling Bulawayo side.

The few Yadah fans who had been singing gospel praise songs and dancing throughout the match attracted the fury of the known violent Highlanders fans when the ball was kicked out of play into the terraces where the yard fans were.

Instead of throwing the ball back into the pitch for play to resume, the Yadah fans began throwing the ball between each other at the terraces.

In an instant the Highlanders fans some carrying knobcarries and a host of missiles and weapons descended on the helpless Yadah fans beating them thoroughly.

One Yadah fan escpaed death by a whisker after police officers inside the pitch pleaded with three Highlanders fans who were holding him high intending to through him about thirty metres down the terraces onto the concrete surface.

The Highlanders fans had already been infuriated by the church side whose players had been employing delaying tactics when their team was piling pressure to find a goal in a match which ended in a goalless draw.

The young ball boys set up around the pitch also added to the Highlanders fury when they hid the spare balls leaving only one ball available for play which took time to be brought back into play every time it went out of play.

Highlanders players ran around like headless chickens chasing after the ball every time it went out of play to resume play.

None of the Highlanders fans were arrested by the police who were easily out numbered by the Highlanders fans.

Comment could not immediately be obtained from the Premier Soccer League officials.

Highlanders fans have a huge track record of violent scenes at their team games.

Years back in the late nineties the team’s fans gave enough to football authorities and had to see the team play five morning games in an empty stadium as punishment.

A couple of years back the Bosso fans murdered a prominent Dynamos fan in one of their similar violence incidents.

The Nelson Chamisa party is said to be claiming that some candidates presented by Ncube are not popular enough to wrestle the seats from ZANU PF.

By SA Govt Correspondent| It was the tragic murder of a student behind the Tshwane University of Technology’s Soshanguve campus that prompted student, Mitchel Moloto, to approach Police Minister Bheki Cele and request his assistance in urgently addressing student safety on campus.

“We came to the realisation as student leaders that our students who are living off and on campus are being victimised by community members, especially when they leave campus and head to their homes in the many passages around the university.

“They are being robbed of their cell phones and in instances when they don’t have valuables they are beaten up and sometimes raped,” said Moloto.

He spotted the Minister at the memorial service for Mam Winnie Madikizela-Mandela and took a chance. His efforts were rewarded on Friday when Minister Cele visited the campus to engage with students and launch a pilot campus safety programme.

The programme has an emphasis on gender-based violence. Minister Cele made reference to the murder of Zolile Khumalo who was killed by her ex-boyfriend at the Mangosuthu University of Technology in KwaZulu-Natal.

“We are trying to work closely with the campus to try and reduce these incidents. We were told about incidents that are quite unpalatable with regards to the safety of students, especially female students,” said Minister Cele, who was accompanied by the National Police Commissioner Major General Kehla Sitole.

Regarding the issue of students victimising their fellow students, the Police Minister said once they start engaging in criminal activity they cease to be viewed as students but rather as criminals and would be dealt with as criminals.

Major General Sitole said the campus safety plan would involve all stakeholders to ensure safety on campus as well as the surrounding communities.

“We are here to formally introduce a campus safety plan and this plan will be a practical action plan which will involve lecturers, students and police to stamp the authority of the state in this university.

“We will connect and interconnect all the policing framework structures. There are serious and clear environmental design factors impacting on the safety of students. Part and parcel of our work will be to clear those factors.

“The Minister spoke about taverns situated near the university and they are not in the acceptable proximity in relation to learning areas,” said Commissioner Sitole.

According to the University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor, Stanley Mukhola, of the 15 000 students at the institution only 4000 reside on campus at the residences.

The majority stay off campus and are at risk of muggings, which are a common occurrence in the surrounding community.

Deputy Vice Chancellor Mukhola said he was encouraged by the action taken by the police to ensure a safe learning environment. He said many of the university’s students are victimised off campus because of the porous borders of the university.

“One of our students was almost raped because a person, who is not even a student actually, found it easy to enter the campus and attack … It is high time that we beef up our security and not only us as a university but also with the national department.

“This project will assist us a great deal as it will start with the establishing parameters around the university,” said Major General Sitole. –

Defeated Minister In Desperate Bid To Reverse Primary Election Results

Abednico Ncube

By Paul Nyathi|Minister of Provincial Affairs for Matabeleland South Abednico Ncube who was last month thumped in the ZANU PF primary election in Gwanda South is making frantic efforts to have the result reversed and the election rerun.

Highly placed sources within the party told ZimEye.com that a heavily tense meeting was held in Gwanda on Friday where Ncube and his other losing collegues battled very hard to convince the Provincial Coordinating Committee to get a rerun for all the thirteen constituencies in the province.

“Some senior members who lost the elections expressed dissatisfaction over the recently held primary elections and they are pushing for fresh polls in all the constituencies,” said the source.

However, the party secretary for information and publicity Simon Khaya Moyo is reported to have dismissed the claims by the members demanding for the rerun.

The sources indicated that Khaya Moyo was immediately sanctioned by the members who resorted to calling for his dismissal from the party on allegations that he is a G40 member.

Meanwhile, the party has sternly warned party members who lost in the primary elections to desist from de-campaigning candidates who were selected to represent the party in this year’s harmonised elections.

Party Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu said in a media briefing on Saturday, that losing candidates threatening to decampaign the party’s candidates at all levels of the election race were out of order and risked being sanctioned.

“If they are genuine party members they can’t do that. Such behaviour can only come from people planted into the party to cause chaos. We will not tolerate that. It is gross indiscipline for anyone to behave in that manner after such an open process where candidates were given equal opportunities and platforms to campaign. If they behave like that, then they are bad losers.”

“Our main target is the harmonised elections and all party members should support the chosen candidates. We can’t expend our energies on negativities. We urge all members of the party who didn’t make it in the primaries to support our candidates,” he said.

Dr Mpofu said some of the complaints raised by the losing candidates had no basis and bordered on bitterness.

“If there are irregularities we accept that but what is worrying is that most of the complaints are coming after results were announced. The candidates allowed voting to go on and only started complaining after realising that they had lost,” he said.

“Don’t Vote For Outrageous Promises,” Khupe

Thokozani Khupe arrives for her manifesto launch

By Paul Nyathi|Splinter MDC-T leader Thokozani Khupe has called on the electorate not to vote for people who are making outrageous promises if they come to power.

Addressing about 2000 people at the launch of her party’s 2018 election manifesto in Bulawayo on Saturday, Khupe said people should vote for her party which is giving realistic promises through its manifesto dubbed “Building an Economy to Support Transformation” (BEST).

Khupe said the general elections present the people of Zimbabwe an opportunity to chart the course of their lives for the coming five years.

“The 2018 elections give the people of Zimbabwe a choice. Either you maintain the status quo of the false promises and continued suffering or you vote the BEST and restore decent lives and prosperity for all.

“The MDC-T government shall serve all regardless of race, gender, ethnicity or political affiliation. This manifesto is our social contract with the people. I have confidence that together we shall make 2018 elections the change we have always wanted,” she said.

Khupe said once elected into power, her party will prioritise rapid reindustrialisation, economic turnaround and job creations among other.

“We have an urgent task to transform the lives of the suffering majority who must regain their human dignity after years of impoverishment. The MDCT government shall prioritise economic rejuvenation through rapid-reindustrialisation and creation of decent jobs for all.

“…It is time that Zimbabwe changes from being an exporter of raw materials, especially our minerals, agriculture produce and timber to value addition of our raw materials. Value addition will not only give the country far much better returns buts shall also retain and create new jobs on the domestic Market.

“Our record as the MDC-T in service delivery speaks for itself from our short stint in the inclusive government. In a very short time, we managed to restore basic health care, education, water and other services which unfortunately have declined terribly since the end of our tenure. MDC-T government shall restore social services delivery and expand these services to all citizens in both rural and urban areas,” she said.

She said that once her party gets into government it will re-engage with the international community and all progressive forces for the country desperately need without selling its soul to the highest bidder.

“We are a both Pan Africanist and social democrats. We strongly believe in a democratic developmental state to play a significant role in the development trajectory. We believe in the right of workers to organise and for full respect of labour rights. Our economic growth and development must be pro-people,” said Khupe.

MDC-T (Khupe) becomes the second political party to launch its election manifesto the lunch of the Zanu PF manifesto and election campaign last week in Harare.

Mangudya Attacks Chamisa’s Digital Currency Proposal

John Mangudya
A Correspondent| The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) boss, John Mangudya has rubbished MDC leader Nelson Chamisa on digital cureencies.

The RBZ boss warned against the transacting public as well as financial institutions against trading in cryptocurrencies or virtual currencies claiming that these pose huge risks due to their anonymous nature.

Further to the press statement issued by the RBZ in December 2017, Mangudya said due to their opacity and pseudonymous nature, the central bank has not authorised or licenced any entity or person or exchange for the issuance, sale, purchase, exchange or investment in any virtual currencies/coins/tokens in Zimbabwe.

Cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin and litecoin have been widely traded especially in the western world with banks and exchanges being set up to trade in them.

In the press statement published by the state broadcaster, ZBC, Mangudya cited Bitfinance Private Limited and Styx24 as companies trading in crypotcurrencies in Zimbabwe.

Mutsvangwa Suddenly Wins Norton Primaries

Presidential Advisor Christopher Mutsvangwa

By Talent Gondo| Presidential Advisor and aspiring legislator for Norton, Christopher Mutsvangwa has won the recently held primary by elections, albeit by default.

Zanu Pf’s National Political Commisar Retired General Engelbert Rugeje in a statement confirmed Mutsvangwa’s victory. He read out Mutsvangwa’s name announcing him as winner during the ZBC news bulletin Saturday night.

It was not clear how Rugeje arrived at his final results which led to the announcement and ZimEye was at the time of writing still researching on how it was done.

Mutsvangwa, initially lost Zanu Pf’s primary elections against rival Langton Mutendereki and he petitioned the party’s elections directorate challenging his defeat.

“There is a G40-Gamatox coalition interfering in the Zanu PF political processes and determined to stop Mutsvangwa because I was at the centre of [former president Robert] Mugabe’s fall,” said Mutsvangwa.

“My supporters are traumatised, have been harassed and suffered the worst abuses in violation of their rights as party members.”

He also blamed Norton Independent candidate, Temba Mliswa for his defeat. – THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY –  more to follow

FULL TEXT: Chamisa Truly Met Donald Trump’s Top Secretary And MDC-T Was Promised Business Assistance

Contrary to social media attacks, video footage ZimEye.com has revealed shows MDC-T leader Nelson Chamisa and others in the United States in December last year when the below official statement was released. The statement clearly states that there will be business assistance to Zimbabwe once there are improvements on democracy. Contrary to denials by the US embassy in Harare, the US government has a well documented history of supporting regime reconstruction in Zimbabwe financially since 1981. At a function in 1981, the then new head of state, Robert Mugabe was seen being promised direct financial assistance for regime reconstruction.

Statement by Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Africa Stephanie Sullivan
“The Future of Zimbabwe”
U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations
Subcommittee on African Affairs
Tuesday, December 12, 2017, 2:00 PM

Chairman Flake, Ranking Member Booker, and distinguished Members of the Committee, thank you for the invitation to testify on Zimbabwe.

The historic turn of events, featuring Robert Mugabe’s resignation, offers an extraordinary opportunity for Zimbabwe to set itself on a new path. Today, I provide this testimony to discuss our bilateral relationship, the events leading to the transition, and the U.S. position on future engagement.

Looking back over the last two decades, the U.S. relationship with the Zimbabwean government has been tense. The government’s repeated violations of its citizens’ human rights, its catastrophic economic mismanagement, and widespread corruption were obstacles, making it difficult to engage effectively to address Zimbabwe’s challenges. Deeply flawed elections in 2008 and 2013 further entrenched political divides in the country, diverting attention from much-needed reform.

Despite a tense bilateral relationship with the Government of Zimbabwe, the United States has maintained a strong relationship with the Zimbabwean people. Since Zimbabwe’s independence in 1980, we have provided significant development assistance in the areas of health, food security, education, and economic opportunity for citizens. Today, our assistance builds resilience by helping millions of Zimbabwe’s people battle HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, food insecurity, malnutrition, landmines, and human trafficking. Additionally, civil society programs bolster civic participation to advance democracy, human rights, and governance. These programs are critical in enabling Zimbabweans to hold their government accountable. None of our foreign assistance involves direct funding to the Government of Zimbabwe.

Over the last two years, competing factions within the ruling party – the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) – engaged in a bitter and public power struggle aimed at determining President Mugabe’s successor. Grace Mugabe’s rise in power unsettled others in the party who derived legitimacy from their ties to Zimbabwe’s independence struggles. These dynamics led to then-Vice
2

President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s dismissal on November 6 and military actions purportedly in defense of President Mugabe, the party, and war veterans shortly after.

Over the next several days, the world watched as hundreds of thousands of Zimbabweans marched in the streets and parliamentary impeachment proceedings began. Mugabe resigned on November 21, ending his 37 years of rule.

The rapid turn of events appears to have unified the people of Zimbabwe around a sense of hope and possibility for the future. The change in government also offers an opportunity for reform that could allow the United States to re-engage in ways we have not recently been able to do. In support of the people, we will expect economic and political reform, including free and fair elections in 2018 according to Zimbabwe’s constitution.

U.S. engagement with newly-inaugurated President Mnangagwa and his administration must be based on demonstrated behavior, not rhetorical intentions. President Mnangagwa has a window of opportunity to demonstrate his commitment to a democratic, just, healthy, and prosperous Zimbabwe. Our policy of re-engagement will focus on constitutional democracy, free and fair elections, respect for human rights and the rule of law, and an improved trade and investment climate, among other issues. The country has a strong civil society and experienced political opposition, and their voices must count in charting a path forward.

We must judge the new administration on its current and future actions. Along the way, there will be many actions that we will need to assess, as we look to reengage. We will need to see free and fair elections. The military needs to return to its barracks and state institutions should be demilitarized. Perpetrators of abuses against civilians should be held accountable regardless of party affiliation. The government must engage in hard economic reforms, including addressing budget deficits, reforming the Indigenization Act, and reducing corruption. We will want to see improved protection of fundamental freedoms, a freer media, and a truth and reconciliation process. The people of Zimbabwe deserve these reforms, and many more.

We welcome President Mnangagwa’s statement of intent to carry out economic reforms during his inauguration speech, and we are assessing the budget that was released last week. We believe critical political reforms deserve equal attention and cannot wait. In particular, elections must be free, fair, credible, and inclusive,
3

allowing Zimbabweans to choose their own leaders. Everyone in Zimbabwe should enjoy the rights to peaceful assembly without undue interference and to voice their opinions—and their vote—without fear.

We are working closely with international partners in Harare and in our respective capitals. Similarly, the State Department will continue to consult with Congress, the White House, and other agencies on our policies with respect to Zimbabwe. If President Mnangagwa wants improved diplomatic relations and access to international assistance and cooperation, particularly from the United States, it is our position that his government must first implement reforms.

The United States stands ready to help the government and the people of Zimbabwe to achieve their goals. U.S. private sector members are eager for improvements in the business climate that will encourage them to invest and trade. They see promise in agriculture, tourism, energy, and mining. People-to-people exchanges are important connectors as well. We will continue utilizing our robust and vibrant exchange programs to foster a better understanding of the United States amongst Zimbabwe’s future leaders, and vice versa. We will continue to encourage Zimbabwe’s highly educated populace to study in the United States. We will strengthen internal networks that build professional savvy and entrepreneurial skills.

We believe in a stable, peaceful, and democratic Zimbabwe that reflects the will of its people and provides for their needs.

Thank you very much. I welcome the opportunity to answer the Committee’s questions.

Mangudya Promises $400mln Import Cash To Fix Cash Crisis

By A Correspondent| The RBZ governor, John Mangudya has promised a $400 million import windfall to ease cash shortages.

Mangudya told the state media shortages will now be a thing of the past in the coming weeks after the central bank imported $400 million. The report was not clear on how the imports were or are to be done. It was neither clear on the cut off (specific) date when the liquidity crisis will be no more.

In the report, the central bank boss says tobacco and gold export earnings are expected to boost liquidity.

A shift towards plastic money, which now accounts for 96 percent of all transactions, has alleviated the cash burden.

To add to the $400 million, the RBZ will also draw from the $1,5 billion Afreximbank loan facility. The amount of bond notes in the market has topped $350 million, and $40 million worth of coins are in circulation.

Mangudya is quoted by the state owned Sunday Mail saying that under normal circumstances, $800 million in circulation would be adequate to meet the nation’s cash demands but hoarders were causing shortages.

However, he said monetary authorities were confident that their efforts over recent months, and strategies being implemented now, would minimise bank queues in two months.

“What I want to promise the nation is that within the next two months, the queues are going to be minimised. Starting from the end of this month, we should see increased supply of cash on the market as we get more money from tobacco, gold exports as well as increased supply from our lines of credit.

“We have imported cash amounting to about $400 million from January to last week, which is January to the end of April. This is higher than what we did last year at around the same time.

“We are going to continue doing that. This has been because of the facilities provided by Afreximbank, increased production of gold and the need to ensure that the economy is liquid so that the public can transact.

“The biggest challenge we have is poor circulation of money. If the money was circulating, we would not be having the cash challenges. Zimbabweans are looking at foreign currency as a store of value and not as something that they should circulate.

“Instead of circulating the money, a good number of our people take the money out of the country by paying for DStv, school fees for their children in foreign countries, shopping and many other things. There are also other payments such as raw materials and service payments.”

Dr Mangudya said increased economic production was the long-term solution to cash challenges.
Addressing the National Assembly last week, Finance and Economic Planning Minister Patrick Chinamasa said the culture of “withdrawing money to put it under the pillow” made it difficult to overcome cash shortages.
“We know the problems of this economy: low production across all sectors of the economy, low exports, and low reserves and to add on to that no currency of our own.

“The totality of all those causes the challenges that we are facing and we have policy measures to address each and every one of those issues. Do not look at cash shortages in an isolated manner, look at it globally, holistically,” he said.

Minister Chinamasa also said increased production remained the most viable solution to money supply shortages, and in that regard Government’s policy measures like Command Agriculture, Command Fisheries and Command Livestock were geared at boosting output.

According to latest figures from the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board, over US$250 million has been paid to farmers — an 8,42 percent increase on last year’s figure.

Gold output is expected to rise from 24,5 tonnes to 30 tonnes this year, the report says.

AFM Pastor Sues Own Church Over Rigging

AFM pastor… vote rigging
The famous Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) senior Pastor Kefias Mujokeri is suing his own church over rigging.

Pastor Mujokeri has gone to court seeking to compel the church to call for elections to choose new leadership.

Last week, Pastor Mujokeri filed an urgent High Court application against AFM president Dr Aspher Madziyire and 33 overseers.

The man of cloth alleges that Dr Madziyire and other church leaders are clinging to power unconstitutionally following the expiry of their term of office in April 2018.

“This is an application for, in the interim, a mandatory interdict compelling or mandating the 1st respondent (AFM) to set the date for the election of provincial workers council and the apostolic council.

“In the final, to declare the 2nd and 3rd respondents’ (Dr Madziyire and Peter Magejo) continued stay in office unconstitutional and in violation of the applicant’s right to protection of the law as provided by section 56(i) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

“The 2nd and 3rd respondents’ terms of office have already expired and they have failed, neglected and ignored to comply with the 1st respondent’s constitution which requires a democratic election within the election year that ended in April 2018.”

Pastor Mujokeri says Dr Madziyire’s delay to call for elections had created a leadership vacuum.

The pastor’s argument is that for the past 100 years, elections have always been held in the last year of an incumbent leadership’s term to avoid a vacuum.

The AFM constitution’s clause 9.3 says elections to choose overseers are conducted by the provincial workers council triennially to form a provisional council composed of an overseer, deputy chair and secretary.

Clause 13.3.1 provides that provincial councils form an electoral college to elect an Apostolic Council composed of the president, deputy president and general secretary. These are chosen from a pool of elected overseers.

Pastor Mujokeri says the last provincial council elections were held in March 2015, meaning Dr Madziyire’s term ended on April 28, 2018.

“In March 2015, the first respondent held its last provincial council elections which culminated in the election of the third respondent together with all other overseers as provincial overseers and the subsequent fifth re-election of the second respondent into office for a further three-year term of office,” reads part of the application.

“As a result of the constitutional vacuum, the first respondent and its members, including me, have been left without recourse and the immediate past president and deputy president publicly haggling over who has power to call for the necessary conferences to conduct elections.”

In his application, Pastor Mujokeri says some AFM members are pushing for constitutional amendments to allow the incumbent to seek re-election.- state media

Mutodi: Chamisa Won’t Win Cause He Doesn’t Have A PHD

Lacoste member, Energy Mutodi who has just accomplished a PhD at the University of Cape Town in South Africa, writes saying MDC leader Nelson Chamisa lacks the experience needed to run a country.

FULL TEXT:

Opposition MDC presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa (40) will not win this year’s elections mainly because of his lack of intellectual and other extra-ordinary abilities that characterize successful African heads of states.

An experience in fighting colonial regimes, participation in ending civil wars, a military background, business acumenship, a doctorate or work experience in international organizations such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, UN and similar organizations are among the key qualities that characterize successful African presidents.

It is unfortunate that the MDC candidate does not have any of the above, making him a straight loser in the impending elections.

How Majome Was Nikuved, Ncube Speaks

Jessie Majome with South Africa’s Thuli Madonsela

By MacDonald Ncube| The below is an outline of how Jessie Majome was forced out of the race for parliament.

Before this, it was chaotic and Mamombe benefited from the chaos as she freely campaigned against party policy.

Jessie Majome Bids Harare West Farewell But….

Jessie Majome

Dear Harare Westerners|In 2008 I was elected to represent the people of the newly formed Harare West constituency in National Assembly. Since then I have discharged my duties as a parliamentarian representing the will of Harare Westerners at best and for the good of our beloved Zimbabwe.

My re-election into Parliament in 2013 is signalled Harare Westerners confidence in me to representing their will and voice.
As we come to the close of this 8th parliament, I have been seeking to continue representing of Harare West under the MDC Alliance banner.

However, there are several of factors, which I have highlighted to my party, that have constituted a manipulation of party guidelines towards a fair outcome in the impending primary elections. This has been to such an extent that the will and voice of Harare Westeners whom I am a part of will be lost in the political processes at play.

In light of these, I have withdrawn my candidature for the MDC Alliance ticket for Harare West.

Dear Harare Westerners, I continue to have your interests at heart and together as always we will forge a way forward best for our community. A Harare West constituency in which all who live and work in it attain the best possible standard of living and work promised by Harare West constituency.

Your MP

Mamombe Responds To Majome Exit

By Talent Gondo| Aspiring Harare West legislator, Joanna Mamombe has responded to news that her arch rival in the impending primary elections, sitting MP, Jessie Majome will no longer contest the polls.

Mamombe said she had received the news with mixed feelings.though she would have loved Majome to contest as a way of ensuring that democracy prevails.

Below is the full text of Mamombe’s response.

Naturally, as a candidate for the MDC Alliance Primary election I have received with mixed feelings the news of the withdrawal of Hon. Jessie Majome from this process.

I would have loved that this democratic contest is settled by the key stakeholders themselves, the residents of Harare West. My participation has always been about me as a young person responding to the call for leadership in such a defining moment in our country.

The MDCT internal democracy and indeed elsewhere demands that leaders must respond to and be validated by the membership and constituents. This is a cardinal principle which many MDC members have fought for. The right to elect and be elected in a free and fair contest.

In July 2017, I sought audience on more than three (3) occasions with Hon. Jessie Majome as I intended to let her know that I was intending to contest the seat that she was currently holding.

These meetings were never to be. It goes without saying therefore that this has always been my decision out of my own agency to offer myself for public office. I am therefore saddened at the suggestion that there may be senior Party members pushing my candidature. It is these kinds of sentiments that create a hierarchical ceiling and discourage young women from participating in politics and public leadership. Why is it that the success of any young women must always have a man behind?

I have offered myself for public leadership because I believe that I have a contribution to make in this country. I have lived in Harare West, where my father has a property and therefore understand the challenges facing this community.

As a member of the MDCT I understand the task at hand. Our country has been stuck in economic stagnation for years, unemployment is high, social service delivery has collapsed and our public health faltering.

Our people demand change, demand a better a future, a new opportunity to dream. I understand very well that our Party and the broader democracy movement faces monumental tasks ahead.

Alluta Continua..??

ZANU PF IS UNDER SERIOUS THREAT FROM AN ENEMY WITHIN

By Dr Masimba Mavaza|ZANU PF has been hijacked by ‘enemies of democracy’ there is this wisdom: “In life, you must be worried when an enemy celebrates with you. So, in this case we [are] worried that an opposition party is dictating to the party that the NPC must be attacked for the just ended primaries. We get very worried. It’s very scary. The opposition has made more noise about how chaotic ZANU PF primaries were, these are internal party primaries and why is the opposition interested. From their press statements they were soon to be supported by our own members who went to the private press to castigate the party and the NPC.

Of all the difficult things Change is very difficult to accept, the way primaries were held and campaigns were done was one of its kind. It needed the support of all but no, ZANU PF now has enemies within. There are those who are inside but not in it, those with us but not for us. The enemies within!

The public outcries the votes of no confidence on the NPC and some members are calculated to embarrass the new dispensation. of all the people the parties organs are the ones which are supposed to work together and give the dispensation a chance. Unfortunately people who claim to be members rush to the outside world to complain about a small mistake and bring the name of the party to disrepute. This is done to the pleasure of the cabal and those who are willing to see the party fail.

It is not a secret that people are saying the soldiers are not good leaders and as such the attack on the NPC is the attack on the army and the party at large. Even though it is known that the NPC does not unilateral decisions people find it easy to single him out for criticism. The reality is as he is the tete of the party if he is ridiculed the party is done. So those who cry the most are the ones hiding behind tears so that they can destroy the party.

But the Main, main, main culprit – the enemy within – is the system which allows, facilitates and encourages national division and decadence, a system which encourages megalomania and corruption, a system which invariably allows politicians to step out financially loaded while the nation suffers. The system that I see as the main stumbling block on our road to freedom, democracy and a proud, prosperous nation. We really should scrap this archaic system and organize our party management on a quality based democratic platform. We have cadres who are in the party for money and are out to blame those they think are against them. The war veterans have passed a vote of no confidence on the NPC but they have forgotten that they did not choose him. Again they had seconded comrade Matemadanda to be the NPC before comrade Rugeje was appointed at congress. This should make one ask why the vote of no confidence is it a hit back. if it is who is the target. We must not be foolish to think that Rugeje is the target.

The destabilisation gear is on. Many of the comrades within find it hard to accept the new dispensation and everything is being employed to break it. Comrade Rugeje becomes a victim and a candle in the wind.

Primary election is often constructed by candidates’ ability to manipulate and set in motion voters’ social ‘nervous system’ by means of juxtaposing two social groups – ‘ours’ and ‘theirs’ – against one another. In the current ZANU PF political arena, this means a socio-political ‘zero sum’ game between the new dispensation and the cabal within. both sides sought to activate cultural schemes based on a sense of local belonging and social identity, with the emotional discourse focused on identifying and excluding internal enemies (i.e. those who are not ‘us’ or belong to ‘our group.)

The way people are behaving in the party shows the most divisive tendency by some sectors in the party, in which they are accusing the NPC and his department but the entire party of being “the enemy within” and part of an “insurrection” against democracy. The party is being “hijacked” by the “enemies of democracy” the party is facing nothing less than “an insurrection and our party is not to be torn apart by an extension of the calculated chaos planned by the enemy within sponsored by those without.

“From the dark cloud falls an acid rain that eats into liberty,” People are taking advantage of the olive palm being extended and causing chaos. When the party is facing such crucial elections it does not need side tracking. This the time to come to the NPC and give him advise, his office is open to constructive criticism and not personal attacks.
“Yet the party in its present form, infiltrated by extremists, riven with factions, still stands upon the stage as the only party to govern the country. Factions are the measure of the shadow which has fallen across freedom since the new dispensation.

We’re past the point of shifting blame. Change was rarely an exercise in smooth sailing. The changes brought in the party in the way we choose candidates does not mean incompetency of the NPC but it is a sign of innovative way and a revolutionary change.

“The choice of Major General Rugeje rtd a man so signally alive in the virtues, abilities, knowledge and experience to be expected of an NPC was not a mistake. “The soft power of democracy is not what it was. It allows changes even if some oppose the change, but there are those who are bad losers; they would want to drag the party down with them because they are not prepared to accept change.

History clearly demonstrates that democracies need parties to organize and simplify the political world. But parties don’t make the fundamental problems of democratic control disappear; they just submerge them more or less successfully. When professional politicians are reasonably enlightened and skilful and the rules and political culture let them do their job, democracy will usually work pretty well.
Every system of government produces uneven results: There have been wise monarchs and feckless ones, capable benign dictators and incompetent ruthless ones, brilliant statesmen in democracies and people who owed their leadership positions to luck (the weakness of the alternatives) or merely inoffensiveness (the least unacceptable candidate). . . .

The strength of democracies is that because their leadership emerges from the will of the public as a whole, the system has a way of accommodating to them and very often, blunting their worst mistakes. Undemocratic systems have nowhere else to turn, and no established way of making the turn. So however flawed individual candidates may be, the self-correcting mechanisms built into democracy limit how much damage they can do.

if the leaders are not careful the party will be derailed into oblivion by those claiming to be the van guards of the party. One should ask why making noise now when the world is looking at us. Elections are this near.

ZANU PF needs to come together now than before. We need to present a united front. The last thing the Commissariat needs is unwarranted attacks. What we need now is the support and plan a success in the coming elections.

Every ZANU PF loving member must be powered by success. If we have issues to discuss lets win first then make the divisive noise once we are strong and in the driving seat.

FULL TEXT: Majome Speaks, Says, “MDC-T Manipulated Own Party Election Rules” To Favour 24 Yr Old Mamombe

Jessie Majome

By Hon. Jessie Majome, MP

Dear Harare Westerners

In 2008 I was elected to represent the people of the newly formed Harare West constituency in National Assembly.

Your MP

Jessie Fungayi Majome.

COMMENT:

The MDC-T internal election policy was not clear and in the process Jessie Majome was pushed into the corner where she ended up complaining about the $1,000 she was forced to pay under the policy in which she and other MPs were ordered to pay up so that they retain their seats uncontested. She had not at all sought not to be contested, as this was all party policy. When she began complaining about the money she paid, she was labelled names, at a time when the UK returnee, Joana Mamombe was allowed to illegally campaign, performing an act which was against standing party policy. Even as at yesterday, some MDC-T senior officials were claiming that Majome’s post is secured and that Mamombe was campaigning illegally, adding to more frustrating confusion because according to National Chairman, Morgan Komichi, Majome has to contest, contrary to the $1,000 policy. Below is an outline –

1. There was the $1000 policy, which later was changed to

Before this, it was chaotic and Mamombe benefited from the chaos as she freely campaigned against party policy.

Chamisa Is Only Young And Has Made Mistakes, Give Him A Chance, Says Critic

Nelson Chamisa

By Paul Nyathi|Prominent critic Hopewell Chinono has urged Zimbabweans to bear with opposition MDC-T leader Nelson Chamisa as he matures in his political leadership.

In one of his usual straight to the point critics, Chinono says that if Zimbabweans are able to forgive Chamisa’s rivals some of whom have committed atrocious acts then young Chamisa also needs to be forgiven for his so called “childish blunders,”

An extract of Chinono’s writing picked up from his Facebook page reads as follows:

Nelson Chamisa’s trip to London was a disaster, but to what extend should he be continuously bashed for the mistakes and YES, the lies that he peddled?

We need to put things into context, he is young and exuberant and has made mistakes but so has the other side too.

They have been part of Robert Mugabe’s electoral fraud that was underpinned by violence and murder!

So if we can forgive them and say let us give them a chance, then we should be able to do the same to Wamba.

He should now be judged on the basis of what he does with the mistakes he has made so far.

I would like this election to be about ideas as much as it should be about political realities, both past and present.

ZANUPF has fraudsters, incompetent ministers and shady characters like Supa Mandiwanzira and Obert Mpofu but we are willing to give President Mnangagwa a chance to state his case because we understand that politics is not simplistic.

It should also be about fairness, proportion and honesty as much as it should be about objective realities around us.

Nero, as Nelson is also known to his supporters has made mistakes but his biggest mistake so far has been his tragic failure to publicly acknowledge those mistakes and knowing when to apologize.

Emmerson Mnangagwa has also made monumental mistakes but he has been wise enough to know when to pull back and when to turn on the charm and more importantly when to keep quiet.

He has acknowledged that Zimbabwe is 18 years behind, Constantino Chiwenga acknowledged on the eve of Operation Restore Legacy that nothing had happened on the economic front in the last five years.

Citizens like that sort of candor and honesty, that is why many are willing to give them a chance.

Nelson needs to do the same and acknowledge that he may have exaggerated and stretched the truth! He was caught out on HardTalk.

Citizens love leaders who accept that they are not perfect, we see ourselves in them.

However it is unfair and not right to judge Wamba on this issue alone, he didn’t kill or maim anybody.

If we can forgive ED and his outfit, then let us also have the fairness and decency of extending the same principle to Nero!

We want the best out of our leaders, they are not perfect. In fact many of them are not fit for purpose.

However we don’t live in an utopian world, we also need to accept that the best people for the job might be those that hurt us before it lied to us before.

Let us hear what they have to say and judge them cognizant of the proportion of their commissions and omissions.

If Nero is unacceptable because if his past lies and fiction, what about those who murdered and stole elections for Mugabe?

Let us have the ability to understand politics, it is not for saints.
ED deserves a fair opportunity to present his case as much as Nero does.

We now know of their weaknesses, let us talk about their strengths!
This race is open and up for grabs for the group that plays their cards right.

We spent the whole day being hit with videos projecting Nelson’s weaknesses.

For the purposes of fairness I also thought that it would be only right to remind ourselves of the weaknesses of his adversaries.

Now that we know, what do they have to offer?

Majome Exit: Is Harare West Vote Split?

By Talent Gondo| Harare West Member of Parliament, Jessie Majome’s exit from the party’s primary elections against rival Joana Mamombe has seen party stalwarts trading insults with high indications of a split vote come election day.

Rival camps have since emerged with those supporting Majome calling on the party to be transparent on candidate selection and adherence to party guidelines while those supporting Mamombe argue that Majome should go through primary elections just like most aspiring party cadres.

Majome revealed that she was pulling out of the primary election race over “unfair and inconsistencies to party electoral guidelines”.

“I cannot do this with a clear conscience. There is selective application of what we agreed as a party on election guidelines,” she said.

Harare West citizens took to the social media expressing their feelings over Majome’s exit from the primary elections race.

“Time to vote for capacity, consistency, integrity and humble leadership jn Harare West. Not for a party but leadership,” said Harare Westerner Rashweart Mukundu.

Simeon Mawanza, another Harare Westerner said he would make personal donation to campaign for Majome adding that he would mobilise a team to assist in this task.

“How can such a hard working MP be wasted? She deserves to be in parliament standing up for the things that matter in ordinary people’s lives. #Tangatakambonyarara zvedu.  Makuda kuti tiite #OperationRestoreMRTLegacy man he,” he said.

Another Harare West resident said it was sad to lose such a gifted person.

“Very sad indeed to hear that she has withdrawn driving put gifted people from the party,” said Simukai Rinhi.

Ronald Tapfuma Jongwe said Majome had his vote regardless of which political outfit she represented.

“I can say without equivocation Jessie has my vote a y day and in whatever jacket she comes in. I am Team Wamba all the way but on this one  I refuse to follow blindly I follow capacity, results and dedication, leadership and in Jessie I see those virtues.Give us a signal Jessie,” said Jongwe.

Ady Munava and Solomon Swans urged Jessie to contest as an independent pledging their support to her.

Munya Mutetwa said he would rather go and braai than  vote for any other candidate besides Majome.

MDC T Deputy Treasurer, Charlton Hwende, however said citizens should respect Majome’s rights to pull out of the race saying she had exercised her rights.

“She has exercised her right, let’s respect her,” said Hwende.

Responding to news that Majome had pulled out of the primaries, aspiring legislator for Harare West, Joanna Mamombe said she had so much respect for Majome and was saddened by those purporting that her candidature was being pushed by senior politicians within the party.

Denford Ngadziore said out of the 3 000 prospective voters from Harare West, Majome would garner less than 300 votes.

“Fact.Out of the 3 000 voters from Westlea, Westgate and Redroofs…….Majome would not get 300 votes,” said Ngadziore.

Khupe Judge Sworn To Supreme Court

Justice Francis Bere

By Paul Nyathi| Bulawayo High Court Judge Justice Francis Bere who recently granted MDC-T splinter leader Thokozani Khupe leave to continue using the party name and symbol has been sworn into the Supreme Court.

The development strikes memories of the (late) Roy Bennett treason case which saw the same prosecutor seeking to imprison Bennett, being promoted to be High Court Judge on the very same case he was prosecuting.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa appointed Bere to the higher court together with Justice Lavender Makoni to fill two of the four vacant posts at the Supreme Court.

The two judges were sworn in by Chief Justice Luke Malaba in Harare on Friday.

“We are very grateful for the appointment of the two judges to the Supreme Court,” said Malaba at the swearing in ceremony.

“We however, still require more judges for the supreme court,” he added.

“The president, using his discretion only picked two names from the list of eight. It is on this basis that we have two new judges, instead of four,” said Malaba.

The other judges left out by the president are Justices Priscilla Chigumba, Alfas Chitakunye, Charles Hungwe, Samuel Kudya, Joseph Mafurise and Nicholas Mathonsi.

Blow For MDC T As Majome Quits Primaries: Cite Irregularities

By Talent Gondo| Harare West Member of Parliament, Jessie Fungai Majome’ s exit from the MDC T primaries over “election irregularities”, has been described as a huge loss to the MDC T led by Nelson Chamisa.

Senior party member who served as the Secretary for Legal Affairs for the MDC when the party was formed in 1999 said Majome was a critical member of the party which the MDC Alliance could not afford to lose.

“Let me just put this out there. I have known Jessie Fungai Majome since she worked for me at the BLPC in the 1990s and I know her as a tireless campaigner for human rights and democracy,” said Coltart.

“She is a critical member of the #MDCAlliance and we need her to be a key member of our team.”

Nduku Nduna, an MDC T supporter called on the MDC T to put its house in order so that the party does not lose its “best performers”.

“The party can’t afford losing best performers in parliament because some people are not following rules and procedures. Let’s build the party and stop self inflicted problems,” said Nduna.

Majome pulled out of the MDC primary elections citing the manipulation of party guidelines.

“Sadly for me in this primary election, I have noted several factors that I cannot ignore, which I have highlighted to my party which I believe, honestly, constitute manipulation of my party guidelines towards a fair outcome to the extent in my view regrettably so, that the will of bona fide and genuine Harare Westerners would be lost in that process,” said Majome.

Zimbabwe Democracy Institute (ZDI) director, Pedzisai Ruhanya said Majome’s withdrawal was a reflection of MDC T’s failure to clarify election processes.

“The challenge in Harare West and MDC  T primaries in general appears to be lack of leadership to explain processes, address and clarify issues that are in the public interest,” said Ruhanya.

“Can’t stomach this tomfoolery masquerading as democracy,” he said.
