Antipas Applies For Warriors Job

CHICKEN Inn coach Joey Antipas has applied for the Warriors job after getting encouragement from many people, including close family and friends.

Antipas was the team’s interim gaffer and presided over six matches which included the 2022 World Cup qualifying opening matches, the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as well as CHAN qualification.

His contract — which was agreed upon following mutual consent between his club Chicken Inn ZIFA — was only for four months and ends on December 31.

ZIFA are now hunting for a full-time coach for the Warriors and have since advertised for the post.

“A lot of people have encouraged me to apply for the job and, so, I have applied,” he said.

Although Antipas is negotiating a fresh contract with his club, which finished second in the Castle Lager Premiership after losing steam towards the end of the marathon, the seasoned coach might be headed for the exit door should he get the Warriors’ job.

“Should l get the job, ZIFA will have to talk to my employers. We are sorting out a new deal. ‘‘But, first things first, we will see what goes on,” said Antipas.

A number of foreign coaches, including former Highlanders and Ngezi Platinum Stars coach Erol Akbay who hails from the Netherlands, Michael Weiss from Germany, Spaniard Manuel Marquez and Serbian Milutin Sredojevic have applied for the Warriors post.

By yesterday it was not clear whether there were any other local coaches who had tendered in their papers, apart from Antipas.

Marry Chiwenga Accused Of “Stealing” Security Aides’ Allowances

MARRY MUBAIWA, the estranged wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who is already facing attempted murder, fraud and currency externalisation charges, may face more charges.

She is being investigated for swindling State aides of their daily allowances while in foreign lands and grabbing vehicles awarded to Miss Zimbabwe pageant winners, the court heard yesterday.

This emerged while she was remanded in custody on charges of attempting to murder VP Chiwenga, illegally externalising US$1 033 000, laundering US$990 000 and fraudulently seeking to upgrade her customary union to a civil marriage without her husband’s consent.

The attempted murder charge arises from when she accompanied her husband who had been airlifted to South Africa in July for urgent medical attention.

Mubaiwa allegedly refused to let him be admitted to hospital for 24 hours until security personnel insisted.
She then visited her husband in hospital, dismissed his security staff, and when alone with him allegedly removed the intravenous giving set and the central venous catheter.

The remand court was told that she was also being investigated on charges of taking away the daily allowances of her aides on foreign trips, of how vehicles won by models in the Miss Zimbabwe pageant were registered in her name, and how she handled funds in Musha Mukadzi Zimbabwe Armed Forces Foundation (MZAFF).State media

With Passport Backlog of 340,000, Herald Publishes Whole Article Celebrating that 242 People Have Applied In Last Week

The state-owned Herald newspaper has published a whole article celebrating the submitting of of a paltry 242 applications for new passport at a time when the government has a backlog of more than 340,000.

FULL TEXT-

TWO-HUNDRED-AND-FORTY-TWO people living in the Diaspora have since last week successfully applied and obtained their passports.

Last week, the Government authorised the Civil Registry Department to charge US$318 for passports in respect of those in the Diaspora, while local charges remained unchanged.

In an interview yesterday, Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe confirmed the developments. “In respect of those in the Diaspora, the process is working very well and we have been seeing an overwhelming response.

“Last Thursday, we received about 47 people that applied and they successfully collected their passports within 24 hours; that was on the following day. And last Friday, we received about 195 people who applied and they will collect their passports today (yesterday),” he said.

Minister Kazembe said the local fees remained unchanged, despite false reports yesterday that the Government had increased the charges.

The reports followed fake messages circulating on social media that passport fees for locally-based Zimbabweans had been reviewed. The fake messages said locals were now being charged $530 for an ordinary passport, $3 180 for an urgent passport and $2 000 for a passport issued in three weeks.

Minister Kazembe said there were procedures that had to be followed first before new charges for local passports could be approved.

“The local prices have not changed. We are not trying to make profits out of it. Passports are documents that our citizens are supposed to have. So, Government will still subsidise them, but we are simply saying the fees that people are paying right now are not sustainable but they (charges) have not gone up as yet. No!” he said.

The minister said details on the implementation of an increase are being worked out by the Civil Registry Department in consultation with other stakeholders. Herald

Mnangagwa Rushes To Promote More Military Generals

Emmerson Mnangagwa, has promoted three Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) Group Captains to the rank of Air Commodore, 17 Wing Commanders to Group Captain and 31 Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Majors to the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.

The three Air Commodores are Nicolas Nyathi, Winnie Mandeya and Salisio Janure. Mnangagwa made the promotions under the Defence Act and they are with effect from December 5.

Speaking during the investiture of the Air Force officers, AFZ Commander Air Marshal Elson Moyo challenged the officers to continue working hard.

“Your promotion today is a true reflection of the confidence that the ZDF has in your ability to perform at a higher level,” he said.

“This is a reward for your hard work and steadfastness towards serving our country, Zimbabwe. This translates to more workload and greater responsibility.

“I solemnly urge you to take your leadership roles with dexterity and confidence as your subordinates will inevitably look up to you for guidance. Further, you are expected to be fair in judgment in order to retain the respect and trust of your subordinates. I urge you to reinforce the values of integrity, patriotism, professionalism and teamwork.”

Conferring the ranks to the newly promoted Lieutenant-Colonels at Army Headquarters, Brigadier-General Milton Bvudzijena said promotion was earned by men and women of integrity.

“Promotions are the means through which the ZNA identifies men and women of integrity who are relevantly qualified and experienced to satisfy its efficiency needs and professional aspirations,” he said.

Brig-Gen Bvudzijena called on the officers to continue supporting Government initiatives to turn around the economic fortunes of the country.

“Our nation is undergoing a progressive socio-economic transformation which we are directly part of,” he said.
“Let us all arise and employ our respective initiatives and innovativeness in the various posts that you have been assigned to, in complementing and supporting Government’s developmental programmes.”- state media

Chiwenga Goes Cosy-Cosy With UN As He Sends Own Wife To Jail

Chiwenga meeting UN chief

New United Nations Resident Coordinator Ms Maria Ribeiro yesterday pledged to continue working closely with the Government and rendering humanitarian assistance.

Ms Ribeiro said this after paying a courtesy call on Vice President Constantino Chiwenga at his offices in Harare yesterday.

“I was received by the Vice President today (yesterday) and it’s my first time meeting him as the new UN Resident Coordinator here. Most of our conversation was around the humanitarian situation in Zimbabwe, the food security situation in Zimbabwe and in some way it is quite a precarious situation given the impact of drought and climate change in Zimbabwe

“So we had some very good discussions about how we could move forward towards what Government is doing. I also shared with the Vice President the current stages for the plans of the humanitarian assistance for 2020 in Zimbabwe,” she said.

She said UN agencies have been working on post-Cyclone Idai responses and beyond that the World Food Programme (WFP) and other agencies have been working on food security, while the World Health Organisation (WHO) is seized with health matters.

“But given the current situation of the impact of drought and the economic crisis, there is need to accelerate certain humanitarian interventions. So we will continue to work on this,” she said.

In October, Ms Ribeiro said that she would seek to build on the long-standing engagement with Zimbabwe based on a relationship of trust and mutual respect with all stakeholders, together with the UN Country Team in Zimbabwe.

“I look forward to supporting the Government and the people of the Republic of Zimbabwe to build a peaceful and inclusive society for sustainable development and inclusive economic growth,” she said.

“Having just arrived, it is immediately clear to me that there is a need to help change the narrative of Zimbabwe, recognising the need for reforms, but also the progress made that we can continue to build upon.”

As a result of unprecedented climate and economic shocks, Ms Riberio said, the humanitarian needs had unfortunately increased in Zimbabwe.

She said the UN was working closely with the Government and humanitarian partners to meet the priority life-saving multi-sectoral needs of the most vulnerable people affected by the humanitarian situation. Herald

Hotels Sales Hit Record Low

Harare’s hotel room occupancy for the first 11 months of the year declined by seven percent compared to the same period in the corresponding year, the Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) has said.

The statistics under review are for the capital’s eight major hotels – Crown Plaza Monomotapa, Rainbow Towers, Meikles, Cresta Oasis, Cresta Jameson, Cresta Lodge, Bronte Hotel and Holiday Inn Harare.

Players in the sector say the country continues to suffer heavy negative publicity, but new engagements and re-engagements with foreign countries by Government are likely to see the impact being reversed in the long run.

Statistics availed to The Herald Finance and Business shows that Harare had a total of 528 069 hotel room nights in the period January to November 2019 and of this return, 254 179 were taken up or sold compared to 289 124 in 2018.

“The actual decline is over 35 000 (35 545),” said HAZ president Clive Chinwada in an interview. “So occupancy time (for the period up to) November was 55 percent last year and 48 percent this year. We have this year sold 25 4179 from 289 124 last year.”

The decline in hotel nights is a major concern for Government which has earmarked tourism to play a key role towards the revival of the economy together with other strategic sectors like mining, agriculture and the manufacturing sector.

In a wide ranging interview over the weekend with The Sunday Mail, HAZ said their hope was this trend will be stopped in 2020.

He said bad media publicity, which has stoked Zimbabwe in recent times, has also made it not easy for the tourism product.

“This is a significant decline, which we hope will be reversed going into 2020. Whilst we are not alarmed as a sector, we are concerned,” Mr Chinwada he said recently. As a result, we urge Government to take all the necessary steps needed to restore confidence in the country.

“In the recent past, the country has not attracted good publicity, which we need to work on as a nation in order to improve the industry’s prospects,” he said.

Mr Chinwada noted that some key destinations that should generally be stronger are not as competitive as they have been in the past, particularly when measured against the boom period of 1997 to 1999.

Key destinations like the Eastern Highlands, Masvingo and Kariba, which are key destinations on the Zimbabwean hospitality and tourism circuit, are performing below optimal levels, with only the Victoria Falls continuing to lead the way. -State Media

Whereabouts Of Marry’s Children Unknown?

By A Correspondent- The lawyer representing Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s wife, Marry Chiwenga nee Mubaiwa, said a group of men who claimed to be detectives from the Zimbabwe Anti-corruption Commission (ZACC), took away the couple’s three children and their whereabouts remain unknown.

Mtetwa was speaking to the media about what transpired on Saturday at the Chiwengas’ home when Marry was arrested.

Said Mtetwa:

They also took away the couple’s three children and no one knows where they are right now.

But the laws of Zimbabwe are very clear that when a couple separates, the minors stay with their mother, but as it is, they have taken away Marry’s children from her.

Marry appeared at the Harare regional court on Monday morning where she was formally placed on remand on the charge of attempting to kill her husband.

The former model was initially charged with the externalization of US$1 million, fraudulently seeking to solemnise her marriage with neither Chiwenga’s knowledge nor consent and money laundering.

However fresh murder charges have been laid against the second lady where she allegedly tried to kill the vice president.

Statement by MDC-NAP Intl Relations Secretary in Response Announcement by Zim Govt for Diasporans to Pay $318 for a Passport

Kazembe Kazembe stated that the Zimbabwe Civil Registry Department has not been able to fulfil well over 370,000 passport applications because of lack of foreign currency needed to secure necessary inputs. Kazembe Kazembe added that to meet demand, the Zanu-PF government has mandated that passport applicants in Diaspora should pay a US$318 passport application fee. In other words, Zimbabweans in Diaspora who apply for the Zimbabwean passport will be subsidizing the Civil Registry to meet the passport needs of people in Zimbabwe.
Zimbabweans left, and are still leaving the country because it is not doing well. Zimbabweans in Diaspora need the Zimbabwean passports to be able to travel to and from Zimbabwe. Zimbabweans in neighboring countries also need the passport to travel back and forth and for work permit purposes.

*Political Opportunism to Exploit Diasporas*
President Mugabe looked down on Zimbabwean Diasporas, seeing them as “…..only care givers cleaning bottoms of aged clients who should bring their own wheelchairs when they come back home as old people so that they do not bother us.” It is a wonder that now the Zimbabwe government that previously ignored and  maligned those in diasporas is now increasingly seeing them as agents of development and is now pandering to diasporas as a foreign policy priority.

When Finance Minister Mthuli and RBZ Governor Mangundla come to Washington, DC they always invite Diasporas to talk about investing in Zimbabwe. Recently, ZANU-PF operatives were inviting Diasporas to meet in Texas about investments and other collaborations. During the 2019 budget presentation, Mthuli Ncube said the diaspora presents a significant opportunity for contributing to the development of the economy and noted that government was in the process of implementing policy to better harness this resource.

There are no precise records, but the remittances from Zimbabweans in Diaspora have kept Zimbabwe economy buoyant. Remittances of cash, food and goods comprise nearly 10 per cent of Zimbabwe’s GDP (The Financial Times August 12, 2019). A World Bank report says that Zimbabwe gets US$1.9 billion annually from its diaspora. It is also apparent that in Zimbabwe receipts of remittances from Diasporas have become an important and stable source of funds that exceeds receipts from exports of goods and services or from financial inflows on foreign direct investment.

There are reasons to be concerned that the ZANU-PF government would want the Diaspora to subsidize the passport issuance for citizen in Zimbabwe. We love our relatives and would like them to also travel or get out of the country to seek a livelihood for their families elsewhere.

*Diaspora and Zimbabwe Government Relationship*
The relationship between diasporas and Zimbabwe encompasses a variety of sentiments, including distrust, resentment, envy, and enmity. Many countries that include India, Chile, Ethiopia, the Philippines and Serbia have structures or institutions aimed at encouraging the participation of diaspora communities in technical, professional and investment activities to advance development efforts. Most countries also use their embassy and consulates to promote this. We all know the Zimbabwe Embassy in Washington, DC locks its gates and have never tried to engage with demonstrators when there are demonstrations at the embassy.  Most diasporans left the country for political reasons and many to escape abduction, jail or beatings by ZANU-PF operatives. Therefore, it is very unlikely that Mthuli’s hope to harness the diaspora or institutionalize the relationships with diaspora for development purposes will ever materialize. A great percentage of the Diasporans are political activists who are sickened by the corrupt and inept ZANU-Pf leadership who have run the country into the ground. Therefore, the Diasporans cannot be expected to develop any economic links or development-oriented mandate with the corrupt government.

The government also does not accord diaspora any political importance because most of the diaspora belongs to the opposition political party, MDC, which the government is trying everything possible to annihilate.

*Diaspora Vote*
There is a total of 115 countries in the world that have provisions for their citizens in the foreign soil to vote. Zimbabwe is not one of them. While the Zimbabweans in diasporas send well recognized remittances to their home country their contribution to the direct democratic process – namely, elections – does not exist. Zimbabweans in Diaspora are denied their voting rights, a right guaranteed by the constitution and laws in force. The ZANU-PF government has disenfranchised millions of Zimbabweans living abroad, who are vehemently seeking to exercise their voting rights as part of their fundamental human rights. Their right to vote from wherever they reside should not be questioned. It is a right enshrined in the constitution. Countries like S. Africa, the USA, Namibia, and Chile give voting rigts to citizens living outside the country. Zimbabweans in the diaspora want to be involved in decisions on the country’s political process to ensure their rights are safeguarded. They want to be genuinely engaged stakeholders who promote democracy. Diasporans remittances are the biggest source of foreign currency exchange and contributing to national development and surely the Electoral Act can be amended to provide voting right opportunity to Zimbabweans living outside the country. It is a constitution right of every national to participate in the nation’s elections despite living outside its borders.

*CONCLUSION*
The Zimbabwe Governments can only realize the considerable development benefits of diaspora institutions if they have a national development policy that recognizes their diasporas as critical partners. How are Zimbabweans in Diaspora expected to subsidize the economy of their home country when they are denied the right to vote and when any remittances are pocketed by the junta? Why is US$1.9 in diaspora remittances not adequate to finance passport production?
Mthuli, Kazembe and ED also need to be reminded that the diaspora is ageing, many are obtaining citizenship of their host nations, have reunited with nuclear families and eventually there will be less money to remit to extended families in Zimbabwe. The remittances will dry up one day.

Give the diaspora their right to vote and right to associate with any political party. Respect the fundamental rights of all citizens and introduce rule of law and *maybe* we may start to engage. You can dictate the price of the passport, but that will not solve economic woes nor address issues of legitimacy. It still adds up to another instance of the robbery of citizens to prop up a failed regime.

Ultimatum For ED, As Chamisa Reveals Timeline For The Incumbent’s Removal

By A Correspondent- MDC leader Nelson Chamisa has revealed that his party was going to remove President Emmerson Mnangagwa from power in the next five months of the new year if dialogue fails to yield positive results.

The youthful leader made the remarks yesterday at Chisamba grounds in Mutare while addressing thousands of party supporters, where he said the country should not always be in election mode.

He also spoke in an earlier interview with the NewsDay saying the just-ended Zanu PF conference held in Goromonzi, Mashonaland East province, was testimony the Mnangagwa administration was clueless on how to end the country’s socio-economic crisis.

Chamisa, however, ruled out violence and anarchy in his plans to end Mnangagwa’s political career, but claimed his party would always remain radically correct.

“We are getting near freedom, we are near Canaan. We have only five months to finish the issue of politics in the country. We need 2020 (next year) to clear political challenges we are facing as a country. We can’t be a country that is in a perennial election mode,” he said.

“We can’t continue to say dialogue, dialogue for five years. We have a window period for this. We are giving dialogue a chance because we want to give peace a chance. If Emmerson Mnangagwa refuses dialogue, then we have the power of the people.”

“We want everyone to know that we are giving dialogue a chance so that we do some reforms. If we finish politics, we are not worried about economics. To lead a country is easy, you just need to respect what people are saying.

“Some churches came to me over dialogue issue and I asked them if they had prayed and I told them to go and pray. Churches play a critical role in the peace-building of this country.”

Added Chamisa: “Even though things are difficult, let us remain focused. Freedom is never free and cheap. Democracy needs everyone to work. We have to make sure that we organise ourselves as the people of Zimbabwe and say enough is enough.

“We don’t believe in violence, we don’t believe in anarchy. Our late former President Morgan Tsvangirai told me if things are difficult, never use violence, but non-violence; and be radically correct,” he said

Chamisa also said Zimbabwe needs an independent electoral body to run polls, saying the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) was compromised.

Earlier, Chamisa had said the first five months of the new year would be decisive because Zanu PF has failed.

“Goromonzi has not brought us anything. A problem cannot be a solution. A question cannot be an answer and you can’t expect juice out of stones. The only way forward for this country is for us to address the crisis. We must not turn every Zimbabwean into a politician. The first five months of 2020 will be decisive,” he warned.

“In the past, if there was a crisis, people would put their heads together to find a solution. It needs everyone to put hands on the deck. Everyone should come forward to resolve the crisis.”

He said Zanu PF had “officialised” lying and believed their propaganda.

“Zimbabwe is not poor, but it has poor leadership. We need to resolve this crisis. Things are done in an opaque manner. There is opaqueness in government, lots of lies in this country. Lying has been elevated to officialdom. Spewing propaganda (such that) you end up lying to yourself,” Chamisa said.

“No one is happy. Our military used to be the best in the region, but politics has changed that. Our police used to be the best, but politics has turned them into something else. Our doctors are the best the world over, but politics came in and look at what is happening now, they are victims of politics.”

Addressing the Mutare gathering, MDC deputy president Lynette Karenyi-Kore said: “I am worried by the economic situation we are facing as a country. Mnangagwa should just pack and go because he has failed.”

The party’s co-vice president Tendai Biti labelled Mnangagwa a thief.

“These people can steal. I once told my president, Nelson Chamisa, that there are pastors of stealing and Mnangagwa is the archbishop of stealing. They steal through Command Agriculture, they steal US dollars, he hires expensive planes,” he said.

Zanu PF Simon Khaya Moyo said he was busy finalising the conference report and was not in a position to comment on the matter.

Marry Exposed VP Chiwenga’s “Bedroom Inadequacies”

By A Correspondent- Mary Chiwenga (nee Mubaiwa) the estranged wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has been denied bail.

Mary who is facing a myriad of charges which include fraud and the attempted murder of the Vice President has been remanded in custody to December 30, 2019.

The state was represented by Michael Reza and Jonathan Murombedzi while the Second Lady, was represented by Taona Nyamakura and Mzokuthula Mbuyisa from Mtetwa and Nyambirai law firm.

Michael Reza argued that the attempted murder charge is a third schedule offense and that as such, the Magistrates’ court should not grant bail.

He said that only the High Court could grant bail in such circumstances. He said that Marry should approach the high court for bail. The Magistrate agreed with Reza and advised Mary to apply for bail at the High Court. She was ordered to return to court on the 30th of December for routine remand.

On the charges of fraud, the export of foreign currency and money laundering also opposed bail for Mary arguing that there is a likelihood that Mubaiwa will continue working to ensure that she kills Chiwenga.

Reza also added that Mary may interfere with key state witnesses and investigations if granted bail. He argued that the witnesses in the externalization case are Mary’s friends who may reconsider their testimonies if approached the right way by the accused.

Mary was arrested on Saturday night by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) allegedly at the orders of her husband. The arrest came after an explosive family meeting to discuss the collapse of the couple’s marriage was held on Friday.

A feisty Mary is alleged to have become indiscrete during the meeting and made barbed remarks about her husband’s alleged sexual inadequacies.

Mary is facing a number of charges of externalizing US$1 million and seeking to fraudulently formalize her marriage without the consent of the Vice President. Mary is also battling another lawsuit from her ex-husband and former Warriors star Shingi Kaondera.

Kaondera has dragged Mary to the High Court demanding a massive US$700 000 alleging that she forged the divorce papers which allowed her to leave him and to get married to Chiwenga back in 2011.

Mary’s camp is suspicious that the lawsuit is being bankrolled by Chiwenga. The reason being that if Mary’s divorce is ruled fraudulent, it would deem her marriage to the former army General legally void.

Lawyer Pleads With Court To Give Mentally Ill Mupfumira 3 Months To Recover

By A Correspondent- A psychiatrist who is treating former Tourism Minister Prisca Mupfumira has pleaded with the Harare Magistrates Court not to commence with her corruption trial and give her at least three months to recover from a mental illness.

Walter Mangezi who has been a psychiatrist for over 15 years, testified in court on Friday and argued that a trial now would worsen Mupfumira’s mental condition.

“I had three sessions with her before I diagnosed depression and put her on medication. Hers is severe depression because she exhibited five of the core symptoms as she was facing difficulties sleeping, was always sad, lost appetite, pleasure, energy and interest in daily activities.

“Any court proceedings will bring back memories of what she has been through. All I ask for is some time to allow her to recover.”

Prosecutor Clement Chimbare however hit back saying; “If the accused person is suffering from a mental illness why has she not been admitted into a mental facility in compliance with the law?

“There is no reason to postpone trial because as we speak she is following proceedings,” Chimbare said.

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), which arrested Mupfumira in July this year, alleges she misused about USD$94 million from the state’s National Social Security Authority (NSSA) while serving as minister of Public Service, Labor and Social Welfare.

The charge sheet also accuses Mupfumira of “criminal abuse of duty as a public officer” for allegedly taking unauthorized loans from the NSSA to buy a vehicle and fund her political campaign.

She also allegedly instructed NSSA to provide funds to Metbank “under unclear circumstances.”

In a dramatic twist of events, Marry was considered a flight risk by the state thus she was denied bail.

She was remanded in custody to the 30th of December.

Marry’s father was asked on what he thought of his daughter’s incarceration and the crestfallen Kenny said justice will prevail.

“No To Dialogue In Perpetuity”: Chamisa

By A Correspondent- MDC leader Nelson Chamisa told party supporters that he is keen on dialogue with President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Addressing thousands of his supporters at Chisamba Grounds in Mutare’s Sakubva high-density suburb over the weekend, Chamisa said:

I need everyone to know that we are giving dialogue a chance because we want to give peace a chance.

But we will not be pursuing a dialogue in perpetuity. It has to be pursued within a limited period after which we pursue other means. We will give dialogue a chance … There is some talk going on slowly.

… If dialogue is done it will spell out the specific reforms that need to be done.

The opposition leader said the envisaged dialogue with Mnangagwa is not about forming a government of national unity (GNU), as happened in 2009, but that it will be about political reforms.

Meanwhile, Mnangagwa and Vice President Constantino Chiwenga have hitherto insisted that Chamisa should join other losing presidential candidates under the Political Actors Dialogue (POLAD).

Apex Council Sets The Record Straight On Civil Servants’ Cushioning Allowance

By A Correspondent- The Apex council has dismissed messages circulating on social media that civil servants will get a cushion allowance by December 18.

The council is the umbrella body for civil servants’ organisations.

Part of the message circulating on social media reads: “civil servants to get $500 cushion by December 18. The special payment involved an allocation of $1 billion set aside to address the plight of civil servants.”

“The special assistance of $500 for civil servants on grade E5 and the $250 payment for government pensioners, will also be paid on 18 December said Finance Minister Prof Mthuli Ncube.”

In telephone interview yesterday, Apex Council President Mrs Cecilia Alexander said what is circulating on social media is incorrect and emphasised that the council uses main stream media to disseminate information.

“We met Government and we presented the plight of civil servants in terms of the festive season and also their monthly salaries and we suggested that we really need a cushioning before Christmas, Government has not yet responded and what is circulating on social media is not true,” said Mrs Alexander.

She said the Apex Council is expecting Government response today.

Mrs Alexander said the journalist who wrote the story for an online publication is tarnishing the image of the Apex Council.

“The messages speak to a very important issue that impacts on and pertains to the livelihood of so many people. It is wrong to play politics with people’s suffering. Everyone is now anticipating a cushion that was never promised. It’s so wrong,” said Mrs Alexander.

“Am Shocked Lungu Is Calling On The US To Recall Its Ambassador,” Zambian Opposition Leader

FILE: UPND President Hakainde Hichilema with US Ambasador to Zambia, Daniel Foote

President of the opposition UPND Hakainde Hichilema says he has read with shock media reports suggesting that President Edgar Lungu has written to the Government of the United States to recall that country’s Ambassador to Zambia Daniel Foote.

Mr Hichilema says it is unfortunate that Ambassador Foote is being ill treated for condemning the massive corruption in the government and the kid gloves the perpetrators are being handled with.

He has charged that President Lungu is the lead perpetrator of corruption and knows how he has stood between justice and his corrupt ministers who were being investigated by the Anti Corruption Commission.

Mr Hichilema has advised President Edgar Lungu to instead sort his issues of corruption without engaging in unnecessary confrontation with the diplomatic community.

“To Ambassador Foote and the American people, please understand that Lungu’s fight is not for the good of the nation but it’s for his personal survival”, he said.

Mr Hichilema said Zambians are not part of it and should not be dragged in his personal survival stints.

Harare’s New High Clamping Charges Immediately Trigger Corruption

State Media|
Harare motorists continued with double parking and illegal parking despite new clamping and towing charges of between $500 and $900 taking effect last Friday.

City Parking marshals were not taking action on errant drivers, amid fears they could be taking pay-offs.

When The Herald did rounds in the city to check on the effect of the new fines, several vehicles were still double parked at various places.

Motorists interviewed said a lot more needed to be done to bring order to the city centre.

Tinashe Kambonde said: “I thought that the high fines would whip some people into line, but they did not or maybe we are being too expectant and there might be need to wait a few days for results.

“If the results do not come, there might be need for a holistic approach to address the issue. Fines might not do the trick.”

Another motorist, Mrs Evelyn Magaso, blamed the lukewarm response to the fines by defaulting drivers to the reluctance of council officials to enforce them.

“I expected to see a lot of vehicles being clamped today, so that errant drivers get the message that council means business, but as you can see some cars have been double parked for hours now and no-one is taking action,” she said.

“I suspect that parking marshals are now cashing in on the new fees, otherwise why are they not taking action when they are empowered to do so.”

There has been numerous allegations of corruption involving officials in the City’s Parking division.

A report with this publication recently alleged a motorist made an EcoCash payment of $10 to a parking attendant under reference number 207581, Txn ID MP190828.1404.D43291, but the marshal issued a $5 receipt.

When the reporter contacted City Parking public relations manager Mr Francis Mandaza, he said the issue should be raised with the customer services department for investigations.

When contacted later on the outcome of the investigations, Mr Mandaza was reluctant to shed light over the matter.

According to the new charges, clamping of light motor vehicles will now cost $500 up from $57, a 15-seater commuter omnibus will be charged $600, while the owner of an 18-seater bus will pay $700.

Conventional buses and lorries will now be penalised $800 and articulated heavy lorries $900.

Owners or drivers of towed vehicles, charges will now pay $500 to $800, depending on the type of vehicle.

Light motor vehicles will now be charged $500, while tow away fines for a 15-seater commuter omnibus and that of an 18-seater are now pegged at $700 and $800, respectively.

“Sanctions Will Only Go When I Say So,” Chamisa

Zimbabwean opposition leader Nelson Chamisa of the MDC Alliance

Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) leader Nelson Chamisa says he will only call for the removal of sanctions after he meets President Emmerson Mnangagwa and agree on, and implement political reforms.

Chamisa said this while addressing thousands of MDC supporters at Chisamba Grounds in Mutare’s Sakubva high-density suburb over the weekend. He said:

I told Mnangagwa that let us unite… because we have a problem in the home … Let’s resolve our differences and after we agree on the needed reforms we then go out with one position and demand that all sanctions be lifted.

They will be lifted because of who will be asking for their removal … They will not listen to crooks.

The ruling ZANU PF party has been calling for the immediate and unconditional removal of the targeted sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe at the turn of the Millenium by the United States and the European Union.

The Western powers have, however, insisted that Harare undertakes comprehensive political reforms for the restrictive measures to be removed.

Economic Meltdown Will Soon Lead To An Uprising Against Mnangagwa

Standard|Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown constitutes the biggest threat to Zanu PF’s continued hold on power, the ruling party has admitted.

The country is going through one of the worst economic crises since 2013 characterised by severe currency shortages, scarce fuel supplies and galloping inflation.

A United Nations expert last month said Zimbabwe was on the brink of a man made starvation.

Hilal Elver, the UN’s special rapporteur on the right to food, made the observation after an 11-day assessment.

She attributed the crisis to hyperinflation, poverty, natural disasters and economic sanctions, among other things.

The government, however, described Elver’s findings as exaggerations but the admission by Zanu PF in a central committee report tabled at the ruling party’s just-ended annual conference in Goromonzi showed that the authorities are having sleepless nights over the crisis.

In the report, Zanu PF commissar Victor Matemadanda said the crisis threatened the party’s own existence. Zanu PF does not take responsibility for the chaos in the economy.

“The most latent security threat that has great consequences is the unstable economy, which is largely propelled by the parallel market (black market),” reads part of the report.

“Formal trading prices are determined by the parallel market exchange rate, which has been sharply rising on a daily basis.

“Prices of all commodities and services have followed suit to unsustainable levels.

“Most people are failing to make ends meet, so are poverty levels that are rising very much throughout the country.

“As a result, anger is brewing among the citizens while there is loss of confidence on the direction the economy is taking.”

In January a steep increase in the price of fuel led to violent protests across the country, which were ruthlessly put down by the army and police.

Human rights groups said as many as 17 people were killed when security forces fired live ammunition during the three days of demonstrations.

At least several women were allegedly raped by soldiers. Since then the government has been refusing to give the main opposition MDC clearance to hold protests, saying the situation in the country remained volatile.

The central committee report recommended that Zanu PF should prioritise programmes aimed at resuscitating the economy for its survival.

“As the party continues to prioritise the resuscitation of the economy, the national security (organs) need to maintain a peaceful environment around the country to enable unperturbed economic growth,” the report added.

Zanu PF also describes the MDC and civil society groups as a security threat as they are allegedly working together in efforts to topple Mnangagwa.

“The opposition, together with their international allies, have attempted to put pressure on President Mnangagwa to start a separate dialogue with opposition leader Nelson Chamisa,” the report added.

“It is interesting to note that some NGOs, civil society organisations and some western countries continue to fight in the opposition’s corner by morally supporting their acts of destabilisation.

“The same organisations have been urging America and its European allies to maintain the illegal sanctions on Zimbabwe citing alleged human rights violations by security services.”

The party accused the organisations of “staging” abductions of their members “to ensure that the country is viewed in political bad light”.

MDC, the report claims, is working with some community based organisations that organise cultural, sporting and arts festivals as well as sexual reproductive education programmes to recruit supporters ahead of the 2023 general election.

“These programmes are being done as campaign strategies by MDC ahead of the 2023 harmonised elections,” Zanu PF claimed.

Chamisa and the MDC refused to recognise Mnangagwa’s election victory in last year’s elections citing alleged vote rigging.

The opposition party has been pushing for dialogue between the two leaders to resolve the crisis, but Zanu PF insists that there is no need for the talks.

Instead Mnangagwa set up a dialogue forum of fringe political parties that took part in the July 2018 presidential elections, which the MDC has dismissed as a farce.

Churches have also been pushing for dialogue between Mnangagwa and Chamisa to resolve Zimbabwe’s political and economic crisis, which has left millions on the brink of starvation.

According to the UN, 60% of Zimbabwe’s population is food insecure due to a severe drought during the 2018/19 farming season.

Mnangagwa, who took over from Mugabe in 2017 following a military coup, has been struggling to deliver on his promise of a quick economic turnaround.

Foreign investors continue to stay away from Zimbabwe due to the unstable political situation in the country and unpredictable economic policies.

In June Zimbabwe dumped the multi-currency regime that had helped stabilise the economy for over a decade and reverted back to its own currency.

The Zimbabwe dollar, however, has been losing value rapidly due to low economic activity in the country.

Ramaphosa Sets Free 15 000 Prisoners

JOHANNESBURG – President Cyril Ramaphosa has approved the release of 14,647 offenders on pardons and remissions to mark Reconciliation Day.

Justice Minister Ronald Lamola said the process would start immediately and may take up to nine months.

The pardons will not include offenders sentenced for sexual offences, murder and attempted murder, armed robbery, mentally-ill sedition, high treason, sabotage and terrorism.

As of November 2019, there were 163,015 offenders across the country’s 243 correctional centres for both sentenced and remand detainees. The department said there was a total of 70,930 parolees and probationers under the system of community corrections – these are offenders who are no longer in correctional facilities but are already in communities. Therefore, the total offender population is 233, 945.

The department said that more than two-thirds (71,3%) of beneficiaries to be considered for the 2019 presidential review of sentence expiry dates are already in communities as parolees and probationers, and not in correctional facilities.

“In terms of inmates within correctional centres, less than 10% (8.99%) of the total inmate population of 163,015 will be considered. Of those to be considered in correctional facilities, the greater part of the eligible 14 647 inmates is closer to their parole consideration dates,” the department said in a statement.

Those who are granted parole will be released into the system of community corrections as parolees and will be closely monitored by Correctional Services officials until their sentence expiry dates.

ABOUT PRESIDENTIAL PARDONS

The President can grant a pardon on various grounds to inmates inside and outside South Africa’s centres. It should be noted that since 1994, a sitting president has not yet exercised his powers to grant a presidential pardon to a person inside the country’s centres, it has been granted to people who are outside on various grounds, it is a power visited upon on very exceptional circumstances.

It is against this background that Ramaphosa on Day of Reconciliation Commemoration in Bergville, KwaZulu-Natal, announced a decision to remit the sentence expiry dates of specific categories of sentenced offenders, probationers and parolees across all correction facilities in the country.

The decision taken by the President is in line with established international practice and informed by powers given to him by section 84 (2)(j) of the Constitution, which provides that: “The president is responsible for pardoning or reprieving offenders and remitting any fines, penalties or forfeitures.”

Mbeki Meets With Mnangagwa, To Meet With Chamisa And Grace Mugabe

Former President of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki is likely to meet MDC leader Nelson Chamisa and former First lady Grace Mugabe after meeting President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House on Monday morning.

Presidential Spokesperson George Charamba said, “Mbeki is in the country at invitation of President E.D. Mnangagwa. The two have just finished their meeting at State House, with former President likely to accede to requests for meetings from different personages including politicians.

“He might meet Madame Khupe, Misihairabwi, Mr Chamisa, Mr Isaac Maphosa and possibly former First Lady.”

Charamba added that Mbeki offered himself to assist Zimbabwe in negotiating with the international community so that it is accepted back into the family of nations.

“Former President of South Africa, Cde Thabo Mbeki, is in the country at invitation of President E.D. Mnangagwa. The two have just finished their meeting at State House, with former President likely to accede to requests for meetings from different personages including politicians.”

“The former President of South Africa offered his stature and access globally to help push Zimbabwe’s agenda to have sanctions removed and to ensure reconnection with the rest of the willing world.” He added.

There has been speculation that Mbeki is in the country to assist Chamisa and Mnangagwa dialogue.

MDC has maintained that it will only meet Mnangagwa under a credible mediator.

Michael Reza argued that the attempted murder charge is a third schedule offence and that as such, the Magistrates’ court should not grant bail. He went on to say that only the High Court could grant bail in such circumstances.

He said that  Marr should approach the high court for bail. The Magistrate agreed with Reza and advised Mary to apply for bail at the High Court.  She was ordered to return to court on the 30th of December for routine remand.

A very weak and visibly tired Marry Chiwenga entered the courts with signs of ill health with her skin looking pale and hands swollen.

With conditions at the country’s prisons, one wonders if the ex model will manage the life in prison.

ZHDA Warn Doctors Against Joining The New Association

The Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association (ZHDA) has warned its membership against joining “fly by night” unions bent on causing division within the medical profession.

The warning came as a reaction to the formation of a new splinter doctors association, representing junior doctors with its mandate being to end the current impasse which has seen a number of doctors doing on strike for more than 100 days while patients continue to lose lives.

The new splinter group, the Progressive Doctors Association of Zimbabwe (PDAZ) was launched in Harare this Saturday with its president, Dr Benson Dandira describing the situation in the health services sector as an undesirable turn of events.

In its statement, ZHDA said the formation of PDAZ was expected considering machinations of the state against the doctors cause for better working conditions.

“It is not unexpected in such setting to witness the formation of splinter groups each with the aim to cause division drive personal agendas and worst of all capitalize on the destitution of the populace.

“It is against this background that we strongly caution our members to remain vigilant and by all means to distance themselves from such an association that surface at the 11th hour, jeopardizing all progress that has been through the negotiation process,” noted ZHDA.

During the launch of the new splinter group, Dr Dandira said their hearts were bleeding owing to the ongoing impasse between doctors and their employer over salary issues.

“As medical professionals, the world we have created over the past few months leaves a lot to be desired. We have seen the unfolding of undesirable events in the nation’s health sector. Today mark’s day 103 of ongoing doctor’s incapacitation that began on 3 September 2019.

“Our conscience are heavy and our hearts are bleeding. Our people keep suffering unnecessarily and are dying from preventable diseases. Someone has to do something,” he said.

Mosimane Celebrates Controversial Telkom Knockout Victory

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimana says he has no shame benefiting from the referee’s decision that denied Maritzburg United a late equaliser in the Telkom Knockout final on Saturday.

“Some people have been getting all these benefits, I will get them, I want them for five games in a row. I’ve got no shame on that. It is the way it is in this Premier League, it’s a jungle!”

Real Madrid, Valencia Share Spoils

Farai Dziva|A late goal from red hot forward Karim Benzema rescued Real Madrid from defeat in a 1-1 draw against Valencia in the 17th 1 of the ongoing La Liga season at Mestalla Stadium.

According to The Statesman, When it looked like Valencia were going to win the match with a one-goal difference, Benzema netted the equaliser in 90+5th minute, picking up a loose ball inside the area.

Zinedine Zidane’s men will go in to the Clasico level on points with Barcelona and on a run of 11 undefeated games.

Both the sides remained goalless in the first half.

In the second half, just when Madrid started attacking the opposition box with increased regularity, the Valencia goal arrived as Carlos Soler finished off a swift counter led by Wass in the 78th minute.

From then on, the Whites went all out in search of the equaliser, leaving spaces at the back. Their efforts paid dividend in the waning moments when Benzema drew the second and last blood of the game.

Notably, Barcelona were held by Real Sociedad to a 2-2 draw in a nail-biting La Liga match on Saturday as Blaugrana’s poor run at the Anoeta Stadium continued.

The draw had given Real Madrid a chance to take over the first place ahead of next week’s Clasico, but draw against Valencia has kept them at the second position.

Real Madrid play Barcelona in the most-awaited Clasico on December 18, Wednesday night.

“Mary Chiwenga’s charge sheet reveals the depth of abuse of the system by those in high offices. Our health system has collapsed while an individual had access to USD1m to buy property abroad. Everyone else is told about SANCTIONS. We are led by thieves…SIMBURU!!,” fumed Ngarivhume.

Marry Chiwenga Arrested While Stark Naked

By A Correspondent | Mary Chiwenga (nee Mubaiwa) the estranged wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is reported to have been dragged naked from her bathroom during her arrest as her lawyers Beatrice Mtetwa of Mtetwa and Nyambirai have revealed.

Mary was arrested on Saturday night by officials from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission on a myriad of charges.

Mary’s estranged husband is alleged to have ordered the arrest after a spectacular fallout at a no holds barred family meeting on Friday.

The General allegedly took serious offence after Mary indiscreetly revealed rather embarrassing details about the couple’s sex life.

Narrating Mary’s ordeal, Mtetwa told the state media:

“She was in the bathroom in her bedroom when the men suddenly opened the door while she was naked and told her that she was under arrest. They searched her bedroom without saying what they were looking for. She was taken to the police.

“After that they came back to the house and Mary’s mother who had accompanied her to the police was not allowed back into the house. She had her car parked at her daughter’s house. The men went back into the bedroom and packed Mary’s clothes in a suitcase before throwing it to her mother.

“They had locksmiths with them who changed the keys to the house while Chiwenga’s lawyer, (Wellington) Pasipanodya – a partner at Manase and Manase Law Firm, was supervising the process. It was a well-coordinated plot to lock her out if one considers that they came with locksmiths and that his lawyer was present, supervising everything.”

Mtetwa also decried that Vice President Constantino  Chiwenga forcibly took custody of the couple’s children despite the country’s laws saying that the mother gets custody of minor children.

Mtetwa added:

“They also took away the couple’s three children and no one knows where they are right now.

“But the laws of Zimbabwe are very clear that when a couple separates, the minors stay with their mother, but as it is, they have taken away Mary’s children from her.”

Mtetwa also revealed that her client was in a bad state as she did not have full access to all her medication. Mary’s hands have appeared swollen when she makes public appearances. Mtetwa added:

“She is in a very bad state. She needs medication and we are trying to arrange something for her so that she is allowed to access medical care.

Mary has since arrived at the Harare Magistrates’ Court where she is expected to make her first court appearance. Her hands appear to be swollen.”

“They Are Fake Prophets”: Johane Masowe eChishanu Leader

By A Correspondent- Leader of the Johanne Masowe eChishanu Apostolic Sect Andby Makururu has accused prophets who claim to heal all ailments of being “fake prophets”.

He told a local publication on Friday that it was impossible for anyone to heal all ailments.

Makururu said he was engaging eye specialists to conduct outreach programmes within his church.

“I have realised that there are some prophets who claim that they can heal all kinds of ailments. This is not true,” Makururu said.

“This is the reason why some people are dying from cancer, HIV and Aids as well as other diseases.

“People don’t only survive on the spiritual side, there is always the flesh side.

“l said this thing of prophesying in 1985 and if you see a prophet who says l heal all ailments he is a fake prophet.”

The man of God believes there is need for people to seek medical help from experts.

“l am engaging doctors so that they come and assist members of our church with eye problems,” Makururu said.

“l realised that this is a major problem in my church. The spiritual side told me that l should do so because we have some people who can’t afford hospital fees.”

Makururu said they were also engaging the Health and Child Care ministry for approval.

He said apart from the medical outreach programmes, the church was coming up with projects aimed at empowering women.

“We are starting projects for women in my church. l am giving them money so that they can do bakery and poultry,” he said.

“l realised that domestic violence starts because women don’t have something to do.

“We are trying by all means to empower women while we are engaging government and development partners to assist us with funding.”

The Johanne Masowe eChishanu Apostolic Sect leader recently castigated churches, especially Apostolic sects involved in institutionalised rape.

The prophet also affirmed his determination to curb child marriages within religious groups.

Recently, Makururu led members of his church and other denominations in a march in Mutare meant to raise awareness on child marriages and drug abuse by the youths.

The man of God is expected to lead a similar march in Harare this month.

Makururu through his Ruvheneko Rwenyenyedzi Trust promised to transform indigenous churches to suit global trends and values, chief among them safeguarding the girl child.

“We Are Giving Dialogue, Peace A Chance”: Chamisa

Want Dialogue To Share Vision Not Power” Said Chamisa – Share What Vision When Don’t Even Have Common Sense

By Patrick Guramatunhu- Zimbabwe’s politicians are corrupt, incompetent and shallow and it is therefore not surprising that they are given to contradicting themselves. Here is one example of Chamisa tripping himself!

“I was pressured just go talk to ED, but as a leader I say we will have dialogue, but not for positions. We can only have dialogue to share a vision for our country, where we can have a future in which there are no rigged elections,” said Nelson Chamisa.

There is no one out there with even a half-working brain who still believe that MDC care about free, fair and credible elections. The party has occupied political centre stage for the last 20 years, had many golden opportunities to implement the reforms, and yet has nothing to show for it! Nothing!

SADC leaders pressured Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies to sign the 2008 Global Political Agreement agreeing to the need to implement a raft of democratic reforms designed to stop a repeat of the blatant cheating and wanton violence by Zanu PF witnessed in the 2008 elections.

The task of implementing the reforms was given to Morgan Tsvangirai, MDC Leader before Chamisa, and his fellow party leaders, including Chamisa.

Mugabe bribed the MDC leaders with ministerial limos, generous salaries, a US$4 million mansion for Tsvangirai, etc. With their snouts in the feeding trough, not even the constant nagging by SADC leaders would get the MDC leaders to implement the reforms.

Chamisa insisted in participating in last year’s elections with no reforms in place and not even a verified voters’ roll. “MDC has stringent measures to stop Zanu PF rigging elections,” he claimed.

Zanu PF went on to blatantly rig the elections, as we all know. Chamisa and his MDC friends contested the flawed elections out of greed, as David Coltart, MDC Treasurer General, readily admitted.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the (2013) elections,” confessed Coltart in his book.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

The political dialogue MDC has been calling for will lead to a power sharing arrangement, National Transition Authority (NTA), in which Chamisa and a few other MDC leaders expect a ministerial position.

The NTA will be a watered down version of the 2008 GNU in which Zanu PF will retain its 2/3 parliamentary majority, for example. The 2008 GNU failed to get even one reform implemented; it is naive to expect the NTA to do any better.

So the NTA will do nothing to advance the nation’s fight for free, fair and credible elections; if anything it will undermine the fight by creating the false hope that NTA will implement the reforms. The only reason Chamisa is hell bend in having the dialogue and the NTA is that it will secure for himself and other MDC leaders the coveted gravy train seats.

So Chamisa’s statement is an oxymoronic nonsense in that he is claiming to have a vision when he does not even have common sense and that the dialogue is not about political power when it is about nothing else!

Indeed, Zimbabwe is in this economic and political mess because the Zimbabwe electorate has proven to be breathtakingly naive and gullible and thus failed to hold the political leaders, from both sides of the divide, to account. A healthy and functional democracy demands an informed and diligent electorate; we need to sit up and pay attention if we are ever going to get out of this mess.

Marry Chiwenga Arrested In Her Bathroom Suit

By A Correspondent- Mary Chiwenga (nee Mubaiwa) the estranged wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga is reported to have been dragged naked from her bathroom during her arrest celebrated lawyers Beatrice Mtetwa of Mtetwa and Nyambirai have revealed.

“Look Into The Doctors’ Welfare”: Newly Formed Doctors Association

By A Correspondent- The newly formed Doctor’s association the Progressive Doctors Association has invited the government to come to the negotiating table saying they can’t continue to watch as people die in public hospitals.

The matter came to light at the PDAZ launch on Saturday when the association president Benson Dandira said:

We therefore call upon our employer to seriously look into the doctors’ welfare not only in terms of remuneration but to approach it more holistically to ensure that the doctor can offer services without having to worry.

We implore the employer to come up with a meaningful offer, one they would be prepared to take themselves in order to ensure their sincerity in these negotiations. Our patients! Our patients! Our patients! The people that we took an oath to protect. We are mindful of the fact that all of us will be patients someday.

The Doctors represented by other associations like the ZHDA are on strike since 3 September.

“Mnangagwa Is A Great And Visionary Leader,” Kembo Mohadi

Mnangagwa with his two deputies Kembo Mohadi and Constantino Chiwenga

State Media|Zanu-PF members must take the lead in initiating national programmes enunciated by President Mnangagwa, Vice President Kembo Mohadi has said.

Vice President Mohadi also paid tribute to the President saying his visionary leadership would lead Zimbabwe to prosperity.

The Zanu-PF Second Secretary made the remarks while giving a vote of thanks at the Zanu-PF 18th Annual National People’s Conference in Goromonzi yesterday.

“Cde delegates, the deliberations of this conference are key markers of the progress we have to continue making as the ruling party Zanu-PF,” he said.

“We would like to appreciate the clarity that the keynote of His Excellency gives. It is an appropriate guidance to us all. The rejuvenation of the Zimbabwean economy is a priority to us all.

“We, as the ruling party, have to take lead in this race. We cannot delegate it to anyone else. We can only expect to make it in this race if we are led by a visionary and insightful person as in our President.”

VP Mohadi said President Mnangagwa’s vision for an upper middle income economy by 2030 was clear and candid.

“The President has, in a very clear and candid manner, articulated the direction that the party and the people of Zimbabwe have to take,” he said.

“We also acknowledge with gratitude that it is through His Excellency’s leadership and counsel that we are having such a successful conference.”

VP Mohadi said President Mnangagwa’s call for implementation of innovation-driven strategies will propel the country into a new era of development.

“A growth that is characterised by deliberate productivity, social and economic development contributes to comprehensive national strength, social cohesion and breeds national peace and unity,” he said.

The VP lauded President Mnangagwa for promoting national progress through this year’s conference theme.

Editorial Comment: Zanu-PF: A colossal party on upward trajectory

“From the 17th People’s Conference in Esigodini you have continued to make the call in the leadership of our national and economic development,” he said.

“We, as the ruling party, continue to hold our destiny in our own hands and the destiny of each one of us is linked to the nation. One can do well only when one’s country and nation is doing well.

“Thank you for reiterating that the global building of a prosperous economy has to be ushered by all of us.

“We thank you for presenting the theme ‘Modernise, Mechanise and Grow the Economy Towards Vision 2030’ with passion and precision.

“It will make the deliberations follow an engaging and fruitful path.”

He urged delegates to be guided by the President’s speech.

“Your vision will be achieved. For now we need to respond as a ruling party and as a people of Zimbabwe for all the vices that militate against us.

“Corruption, laziness and a negative work ethic are some of the vices that we need to eradicate.

“Further, peace is imperative to social inclusion for development and growth. We thank you for making peace a core component of our development agenda.”

Chiwenga Declared Marry’s Arrest And Imprisonment At ZANU PF Conference Before Her Arrest, Are The Courts Waiting To Endorse That?

Constantino Chiwenga addressing the ZANU PF conference last week.

Own Correspondent|Marry Chiwenga, wife of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga — is at the Harare Magistrates Court today on allegations of externalising US$1 million and fraudulently seeking to solemnise her marriage with neither the husband’s knowledge nor consent.

Mrs Chiwenga was on Saturday evening arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) for externalising foreign currency, money laundering and the fraud case regarding the marriage.

She was locked up at Rhodesville Police Station pending her court appearance today. Her husband literally declared her arrest and imprisonment just days before she was arrested.

Addressing delegates at the 18th Zanu-PF Annual National People’s Conference at Goromonzi High School last week, VP Chiwenga spoke unequivocally against corruption.

He urged the nation to walk the talk on corruption, saying all corrupt persons should be jailed.

“We need to be true patriots and loyal servants by shunning, resisting and exposing corruption, as well as ethically playing our expected roles in national development,” said VP Chiwenga.

“Nyaya yecorruption munopinda mujere. Iyi haina anokwanisa kuti ini handikwanisike nokuti ndakamira ndakadai. Saka tobva pano paGoromonzi tapinda mugwara.

“Usambofa wakati ini ndakashandira musangano. Wakashandira musangano, but teedzera gwara. Hatichadi kuona nyaya dzecorruption. Dzinofanira kuti dzipere (When it comes to corruption, there are no sacred cows. It must come to an end).”

Chiwenga and his ex model wife Marry are om the brink of a divorce after they had a nasty fallout when he was seriously ill and hospitalised in South Africa.

Family members and government officials say the fallout revolved around personal matters related to Marry’s behaviour and her attempt to have Chiwenga write a will, in which she would have been the largest beneficiary of the couple’s vast estate in the event that he dies.

At the time, most members of Chiwenga’s family, as well as government officials, had ruled out the general’s hopes of recovery. Senior Zanu PF officials had also begun jostling for his post, while others pushed for him to be dropped from government on the grounds that he was incapacitated.

Chiwenga and Marry have been living separately after the Vice-President moved into another house on arrival from China, where he was hospitalised for four months, before staging a remarkable recovery.

Can Mnangagwa Be Impeached?

A complete list of all the articles of impeachment against Mnangagwa in his two years in the presidency will fill a number of pages. I will just confine to just two high treason charges

  1. In plotting and executing the November 2017 military coup and then afterwards getting Chief Justice George Chiweshe to falsify declare the act “legal, justified and constitutional”. Whilst some have argued with some justification that it was the only way remove the dictator Robert Mugabe. The fact remains that it was nonetheless unconstitutional and threatened to throw the nation into even greater instability and chaos as, indeed, happened in this case. There is no denying the 2017 coup removed one dictator only to replace him with another.
  1. In failing to implement any meaningful democratic reforms necessary for free, fair and credible July 2018 elections, blatantly rigging the said elections and then imposing himself as the legitimate president and government.

Mnangagwa can and, indeed, should be impeached but he will not be impeached because Zimbabwe is not a health and functioning democracy. The horse, the treasonous president, has already bolted.

“A president “might pervert his administration into a scheme of peculation or oppression,” James Madison (one of America’s founding fathers) said of the need for an impeachment clause (in USA constitution). “He might betray his trust to foreign powers.”

“Madison and his fellow framers understood that elections — which, under normal circumstances, are the essence of democratic self-government — could not serve their purpose if a president was determined to cheat to win,” explained New York Times, in its editorial.

“As the constitutional scholar Noah Feldman testified before the Judiciary Committee last week, “Without impeachment, the president would have been an elected monarch. With impeachment, the president was bound to the rule of law.”

By successful rigging elections for these last 39 years Zanu PF leaders have systematically eroded the democratic right of the people to a meaningful vote. Instead of the people holding those in power to democratic account it is the people who are now at the mercy of the ruling elite, especially the rural voters who have been reduced into medieval serfs beholden to the Zanu PF landlords!

Instead of the people electing the MPs and thus the people exercising power over the MPs; it is Mnangagwa and the select few manning the party’s vote rigging machinery who elect the MPs and thus control them. In Zimbabwe Mnangagwa enjoys absolute power he controls the electorate and the MPs.

In Zimbabwe it is the tail, the president, that wags the dog, the nation, parliament and all the state institutions.

The only way Mnangagwa can be impeach is at gun point – as happened to Mugabe.

The November 2017 coup removed one dictator but only to replace him with another dictator, this was not the political change the nation has been dying for – removing the dictatorship and replacing it with a democratic system of government.

We should focus all our time, energy and sweat on getting Mnangagwa and Zanu PF to step down on the grounds the party does not have the mandate to govern since last year’s elections were rigged. This will create the political space to appoint a body that can be entrusted the task of implement the democratic reforms necessary for free, fair and credible elections.

Once the democratic system in established, one only hopes that the people will be vigilant and alert and not lose it as easily as they did in 1980!

Those calling for Mnangagwa to be impeach, as long as the Zanu PF dictatorship remains strong, they are wasting their time.

“We Are Tired Of Mnangagwa’s Nonsense,” Kasukuwere Speaks At EFF Congress

Tyson says ‘fed up with ED nonsense’, vows to ‘take bull by its horns’
Kasukuwere and Mnangagwa

EXILED former cabinet minister and top Zanu PF official, Saviour Kasukuwere says he is tired of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s “nonsense”.

Addressing South African opposition Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party leadership and supporters at their annual congress in Soweto Saturday, Kasukuwere said it was time to take the bull by its horns.

“Our struggle in Zimbabwe is just about to begin, we cannot any longer tolerate the nonsense that is happening,” Kasukuwere said amid applause from EFF supporters.

“The pain in our people is too much, queues day in and out, our people are running to South Africa, thousands of our people are here without papers; that’s the humiliation they are facing living in a country full of challenges.

“As Zimbabweans, we must take the bull by its horns. It is not about enmity; it is about correcting comrades that have gone wayward.

“They want more money, they want more riches, and they have lost the direction of the revolution.

“When they meet, hear their resolution, none of the resolutions make sense, there have no basis to move forward.”

The former Zanu PF national political commissar, who was kingpin of the G40 faction that was fiercely opposed to Mnangagwa taking over from then President Robert Mugabe, said one of the challenges that the ruling party was facing was that it did not want to move away from the liberation war mode.

“A hungry people cannot be governed and this is the challenge many liberation movements are facing in Africa,” he said.

“I can give you an example of my country Zimbabwe, the objective when they started the movements they formed, the military wing called Zanla and Zipra and those combatants have not put the guns down.

“They are still in that liberation period; they have not transformed to talk about economic empowerment.

“The gun has now become an instrument to suppress the majority of our people.

“We can’t focus on growing the cake, on growing our economy, get our people into mining, get our people into agriculture, and get our people to become masters of their own destiny.

“We have done enough politics, but for the necessity…must lead us into total control of economy.”

Kasukuwere had no kind words for Mnangagwa’s endless trips outside the country in a hired jet attending countless conferences, with no tangible results on the ground.

“Why do we attend investment conferences the world over, some comrades have to travel in hired planes, with plates full of mazondo chewing them as they travel and you ask them ‘what are you going to do there that you can’t do here’,” Kasukuwere said.

“Let’s bring our people together and that’s the first investment that we must find ourselves in.”

Kasukuwere followers recently launched #tysonwabantu which he said was not a political party but a movement by citizens of the country, some on the diaspora who feel that there is need to come together to persuade and move the country forward.

St Johns’ Chikwaka Students Drop Album

By A Correspondent- Students from St Johns’ Chikwaka have dropped an album titled extra blessings.

The students produced their album in line with the new curriculum and were assisted by Noel Murerwa.

Murerwa spoke to a local publication about the album and said:

This is the first album with the school in line with the new curriculum to help children develop life skills and encourage them to pursue other avenues of survival. It is also a move to identify and nurture talent in its raw form and develop them.

We give children the opportunity to professional platforms such as recording studios and perform live so that things such as stage fright will be dealt with at an early stage.

Chamisa’s Passionate Plea To General Chiwenga

The opposition MDC leader Nelson Chamisa had some words of advice to the vice President Retired General Constantino Chiwenga who recently returned home from China saying he should dump the habit of looking down upon people or judge based on statue.

Below are Chamisa’s words to Chiwenga;

“You may have joined mainstream politics as General Chiwenga and looking down upon me, having looked at my small statue, but what you need to know is God has purpose,”
“And God has given you a life to do good for the country and not to divide the people, not to destroy the souls of the people, not to issue reckless statements which undermine one another, we must all be united as a people.”

Chamisa Receives “Prophetic Vision” About Becoming Zimbabwe’ s President

Farai Dziva|The country’s main opposition leader, Nelson Chamisa says he has received a prophetic vision about leading Zimbabwe.

Chamisa said Jesus Christ appeared to him in a vision and assured him that he would soon be the President of Zimbabwe.

Chamisa made the remarks at the memorial service for Vimbai-Tsvangirai Java in Harare on Saturday.

He said” : It is only a matter of time before Jesus Christ completes his promise.”

“The Lord has spoken to me lately that one day I will lead this country. I do not know when or how this will happen but he has spoken to me over this issue,” said Chamisa who is himself a pastor,” he added.

The opposition leader said he was not as power hungry as his rival and President Emmerson Mnangagwa who he accused of depending on witch doctors to remain in power.

Chiwenga Was Healed To Dump His Old Deeds, Says Chamisa

MDC leader Nelson Chamisa has called Vice President to order, telling the country’s number two that God restored him to good health so he could dump his bad deeds for good ones.

Chamisa was speaking at a memorial ceremony held in honour of Vimbai Tsvangirai-Java, daughter to late MDC founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai at the latter’s Harare home.

VP Chiwenga spent four months fighting for his life in a Chinese hospital suffering what was he later revealed as oesophageal disease.

His miraculous recovery has surprised many locals who never gave him a chance to recover his good health, let alone return to his job and active politics.

Chamisa told the sabre-rattling former military boss God restored him to good life so he could do the right thing for his fellow countrymen.

“You may have joined mainstream politics as General Chiwenga and looking down upon me, having looked at my small statue, but what you need to know is God has purpose,” Chamisa said.

“And God has given you a life to do good for the country and not to divide the people, not to destroy the souls of the people, not to issue reckless statements which undermine one another, we must all be united as a people.”

Chamisa was apparently referring to statements uttered by Chiwenga during the just ended Zanu-PF annual national people’s conference in Goromonzi Friday.

Chiwenga had accused the opposition leader of harbouring a plot to topple the government through uprisings.

“There are some malcontents who think they can unseat a legally-elected government through protests and boycotts,’ Chiwenga had said.

“We want to warn them that their actions will not succeed.

“This is not Mongolia where you can challenge authority and cause violence as much as you want. That will not happen in Zimbabwe.”

Tsvangirai-Java’s, late Glen View South MP, passed on in June this year from injuries she suffered weeks before in a horrific car accident in Kwekwe on her way to Harare in the company of relatives and party colleagues.

Her memorial was attended by family, relatives, party supporters and members from her church.

Chiwenga Gets Marry Arrested And Unlawfully Gives Himself Custody Of His Children While Getting Rid Of Her Other Children.

Mrs Mary Chiwenga

Own Correspondent|Vice President Constantino Chiwenga over the weekend used his muscle to get his troubled wife Marry arrested on a host of charge that may eventually also hit back at him.

The Sixty three-year-old Chiwenga, who has been attempting to evict Marry from their Borrowdale home, immediately took custody of their three children aged eight, seven and five after she was arrested. Two other children from the 38-year-old former model’s past relationships were sent to her mother.

The retired army general is reported to have been battling to get Marry to leave the matrimonial residence in Borrowdale, and also not to take the children with her. Marry engaged lawyers to fight her eviction, which further infuriated Chiwenga.

The two were customarily married in 2011 after Chiwenga divorced his first wife, Jocelyn, and Marry left her footballer husband, Shingayi Kaondera.

“If Elections Fail Zanu PF Will Use Any Means” – Free Elections Is A Right, Not A Privilege

By Nomusa Garikai- Zimbabwe’s worsening economic meltdown has President Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF colleagues really worried. They know the economic situation is unsustainable and power is slipping out of their hands. They response is to step up the tyrannical repression.

“This is a revolutionary party, that liberated this country, and the only one that can defend the revolution, therefore, we will fight to defend that course by any means necessary,” said Victor Matemadanda, Zanu PF political commissar.

“Every election is a process to defend the revolution against Western imperial powers working in cahoots with local puppets. We will use any means necessary to defend the revolution.

“If elections fail we will use any other means necessary!” he concluded ominously.

If anyone thought Matemadanda was just a loose cannon, Mnangagwa no less stood up reinforced Matemadanda’s word.

“Whilst we were at war, we would ask who is the chief of this area, and they would tell us that it is Chief Chikwaka,” he said.

“We would not ask who was contesting Chief Chikwaka (Goromonzi traditional leader). If someone comes into this country and they ask who rules over Zimbabwe, its Zanu PF.”

“You (Zanu PF members) are the voice of this country, you are the way of this country, you are the future of this country.”

Every time Zanu PF sensed that its strangle hold on power was being threaten, the party has turned up the political rhetoric and followed this with wanton violence to drive the message home.

Zanu PF does never subscribed to the notion that ordinary Zimbabweans have the right to a meaningful say in the governance of the country. The party blatantly rigged last year’s elections. The election went ahead without something as basic as verified voters’ roll. This was a deliberate and calculated move, a verified voters’ roll would have make the vote rigging that much difficult, of course.

What is frustrating here is not just that Zanu PF has blatantly rigged elections repeatedly but that the regime has partners. The opposition led by the MDC have participating in these flawed and illegal elections knowing Zanu PF will rig the elections. Worse still, they have also known that by participating they were giving the process ‘credibility’ as David Coltart readily admitted.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” admitted Coltart in his book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of tyranny in Zimbabwe.

So many golden opportunities to implement the reforms and end the Zanu PF dictatorship have been wasted on the opposition alter of greed.

Then there are others like Professor Mthuli Ncube, Minister Kirsty Coventry and many others who are working for this Zanu PF regime knowing it rigged the elections and is per se illegitimate. They paid and paid well for propping up the dictatorship. The two attended the just ended Zanu PF conference and they joined the rest of the party faithful in cheering Mnangagwa and Matemadanda’s speeches.

We can agree to differ on many things but surely we should not differ on what constitute free, fair and credible elections and that this is a right and not a privilege. It is therefore infuriating that some people pretend, for selfish reasons, that Zanu PF did not rig last year’s elections and thus undermining the work of those calling for democratic change.

Zanu PF will never implement any meaningful democratic reforms and restore the people’s right to a meaningful vote. All political and economic pressure must now be brought to bear on Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies to steps down! The lifted sanctions must be brought back.

All economic and political pressure must also be brought to bear on MDC leaders Zanu PF apologists who are propping up this Zanu PF dictatorship. These individuals must now be added to the sanctions list!

Yes, Zanu PF’s stern warnings that the party will use wanton violence to retain power must be taken seriously. Still the human tragedy brought on by 39 years of Zanu PF misrule is real too and cannot be ignore. The consequences of just another year of this; millions living in abject poverty with no health care, no education, etc. is unthinkable. Abandoning these poor souls to mercy of the Zanu PF tyrants is not an option.

Mnangagwa and his thugs must be told in no uncertain terms that he must restore the freedoms and rights of every Zimbabwean including the right to a meaningful vote and the right to life. These are rights and not privileges he can give to some and deny to others as he sees fit.

Since Zanu PF has failed, especially during the 2008 to 2013 GNU, to implement even one reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections; the party must now step down. This is not negotiable!

Reprieve As Deputy Head Is Cleared Of Violating Student’s Dignity

By A Correspondent- A Secondary school deputy headmistress who allegedly forced a Form One girl to undress in the presence of other teachers in Hwange was all smiles on Friday after a magistrate cleared her of any wrongdoing.

Possenta Kwidini, aged 50, was facing a charge of seriously impairing the dignity of another person after she allegedly forced the schoolgirl to undress as punishment for walking around with her skirt unzipped.

The 15-year-old girl who cannot be named for ethical reasons, had reported the matter to her uncle who is also a teacher at the same school before the matter was reported to the police.

Kwidini, who was being represented by Elvis Mashindi of Mashindi and Partners, pleaded not guilty saying she acted as a parent to rebuke the pupil from walking around nak_ed.

On Friday, Hwange magistrate Gift Dube said the State, led by Trymore Chitumbu had failed to establish a prima facie case against Kwidini before he found her not guilty and acquitted her.

The magistrate said there were inconsistencies in the evidence given by the complainant, who had one lady teacher testifying on her behalf against the deputy headmistress.

“There were inconsistencies in the complainant’s testimony while it is also not clear whether she was threatened to unzip her skirt or not.

“There was no evidence from the State to show that the girl was threatened.

“Her dignity was almost compromised as she was walking with her zip open and she was called into the room where there was privacy as the teacher wanted to reprimand her,” said the magistrate.

The magistrate said from evidence brought before his court, he found that the girl’s skirt fell in the process of the rebuke and it was not the intention of Kwidini to make it fall.

He said the complainant was wrong to walk naked.

“The child was wrong. No one will allow her kid or anyone to walk publicly with the zip open. Teachers are parents at school, hence the court finds that the teacher’s intention was correct as she had no intention to strip her naked. The State dismally failed to bring evidence,” said the magistrate.

Earlier before start of trial, Kwidini had applied for exception of the case but the application was dismissed by the same magistrate.

Prosecutors had alleged that Kwidini, who is a “feared” local businesswoman as the community alleges she and her family use their wealth to abuse members of the community, forced the girl to undress in the presence of two other female teachers Chipo Mahlangu and Mazvita Muteme in September this year.

Mahlangu testified in favour of the girl while Muteme supported Kwidini.

Allegations were that Kwidini was sitting in the Textiles Technology and Design room in the company of the two female teachers when she saw the girl tucking her school uniform shirt behind the classroom and called her.

Kwidini told the girl that it was improper for a girl to dress in public and allegedly ordered her girl to unzip her skirt.

The girl complied and Kwidini allegedly ordered her to let the skirt drop down while threatening to assault her.

Out of fear, the girl complied and she was left wearing her shirt and pant only.

Kwidini allegedly later ordered her to dress up and go to her classroom where she was consoled by her classmates who had witnessed the incident from their class.

Masiyiwa Ups Doctors’ Allowances

By A Correspondent- The Strive Masiyiwa’s Higher Life Foundation (HLF) has increased allowances for doctors who applied under the $100 million training fellowship.

In a statement, HLF chief executive Mr Kennedy Mubaiwa said HLF was increasing the monthly allowances with immediate effect.

“Following a positive response to the ZWL$100 million training fellowship for junior and senior resident medical officers, registers and consultants employed at public healthcare institutions in Zimbabwe announced by HLF on 27 November, 2019, HLF is pleased to announce an upgrade,” said Mr Mubaiwa.

“Consultants who were awarded the fellowship for the six-month duration will get an increase of their non-negotiable monthly subsistence allowance from the original offer of $5 000 to ZWL$10 000 for the duration of the fellowship.”

Mr Mubaiwa said registrars and Government medical officers who were awarded 12 months fellowship will receive $7 500 up from $5 000.

HLF last month launched a $100 million training fellowship for doctors at Government hospitals to benefit 2 000 junior and senior medical officers.

The scholarship will last for six and 12 months, with funding contingent upon fellows remaining enrolled in their programmes for that period and satisfying all requirements.

The fellowship, a first in the country, included a non-negotiable allowance of $5 000 per doctor per month for a maximum of 2 000 doctors which has since been increased to $7 500.

It would, among other things, assist doctors in completing rotations within public health institutions while providing the much-needed health services to the citizens of Zimbabwe.

Chamisa Says Jesus Christ Appeared To Him And Assured Him That He Will One Day Be President Of Zimbabwe

Lord says I shall one day rule Zimbabwe – Chamisa
MDC leader Nelson Chamisa

Own Correspondent|Opposition MDC leader Nelson Chamisa has sensationally claimed that Jesus Christ appeared to him and assured him that he will soon be the President of Zimbabwe.

Addressing a gathering at the memorial ceremony of Vimbai-Tsvangirai Java in Harare on Saturday, Chamisa said that it is only a matter of time before Jesus Christ completes his promise.

“The Lord has spoken to me lately that one day I will lead this country. I do not know when or how this will happen but he has spoken to me over this issue,” said Chamisa who is himself a pastor.

The opposition leader said he was not as power hungry as his rival and President Emmerson Mnangagwa who he accused of depending on witch doctors to remain in power.

Tsvangirai-Java died in June this year in a horrific Kwekwe car crash that also claimed the lives of two other MDC members on their way from a caucus meeting in Bulawayo.
