War Veterans spokesperson Douglas Mahiya has been arrested and his home ransacked by suspected members of the CID crack team.
National police spokesperson, Charity Charamba confirmed Mahiya’s arrest saying “investigations” were continuing.
“Yes Mahiya has been arrested and investigations are going on and we will furnish you with more details later,” said Charamba.
This development comes hard on the heels of direct threats by President Robert Mugabe at a meeting this morning that he would deal with rogue elements in the war veterans association who authored the popular communique that ordered him to stand down last week.
Mugabe threatened that authors of the controversial communique calling on him to step down would be dealt with harshly as he reminded on how disputes were settled in China and during the liberation struggle.
“We shall keep together at the top, we shall remain united, we know that accusations will continue to be made, allegations naturally some true some false but Zanu-PF know how to settle its contradictions..takafunda tirikuhondo tichiongorora maitirwo aitiwa kuChina ichatungamirirwa nava Mao,” he said.
“That is how ma contradictions were settled in China and also in our camps kunze kwenyika..torega kurovana kwete..violence hatidi, tuma party tumwe utwu kana toda kuita ma demonstrations atwo ne hasha….mapurisa onai kuti twakandwa mumajeri twomboravira sadza remujeri,” he reiterated also threatening opposition protestors that they would be arrested and taste sadza in jail.
Mugabe who is the patron of the war veterans association unilaterally dissolved the body this morning in a charged address calling on those war vets loyal to him to elect new leaders,  “Saka ma war vets ndoda kuti musangane mosarudza vatungamiriri vatsva….those who are acting let them act. Isuwo takasarudza vakuru muparty kuti chitsamba ichoci chakambobva kupi nevakazoipembedza kuti musangano uzovaranga ende kuranga kwe party kunenge kwakaoma,”
The communique, the most confrontational yet from the veterans, called Mugabe a despot and concluded that the body would not support him in future elections.

  3. Fuck you. He is a Shona – nobody is speaking in Ndebele, Nambya, Khalanga, Venda, etc in that gathering; including your President Gukurahundi Mugabe. This is all Shona bullshit – no support from Matebeleland. To hell with Shona things – we are sick and tired – we are not your followers!!

  4. I thought war veterans where from all over the country and came from both ZIPRA. Why then is this whole thing a Shona thing? Mugabe’s address – his whole speech is in Shona, contrary to the provisions of our National Constitution. Its looks like this is just about Mashonaland. Shit Shona Gukurahundi Zimbabwe!!

  6. Let’s all wait and see what the majority of the war veterans will do with this arrest of one of their own. They have used their false power against the masses of our country, partisan supporting Mugabe and Zanu Pf, killing innocent citizens across the racial divide.
We mentioned it a lot number of times and Jonathan Moyo also reiterated that anyone playing Rambo because they fought in the war, 30+years after independence, is psychiatric hospital material. Although JM himself wad dashing it advance his own egocentric needs, it remains very true. Now the tide has turned against these Rambos. Let them show the bravery they have shown in making Mugabe more tyrannical, more dictatorial, their harassment of innocent fellow citizens, the plunder of national resources, demanding money from taxpayers as if we owe them something when we don’t.
Everyone took part in the liberation of this country one way or the other so no one owes anyone nothing. We all owe respect to this country and is rule of law. They helped the regime become above the law. Now that the law is not being followed when their’s is being attacked, forced into partsany, denied their right to the freedom of expression, denied their right to belong and chose, let’s see how they feel. The wiring is on the wall and the warning wad given in shona “murangiro we Party ndiwo wakaoma”. From their knowledge of the way things have been done to other descending voices, do you think Mahiya will ever be seen alive or well. Let them show us courage and demand and force his release now.
My guess is the majority will chicken out and beg for clemency from the man they have made untouchable.
I challenge all war veterans to show that they are all serious signatories to that communique.

  8. People of Zimbabwe let us support Cde Mahiya. What was postulated in the communique, whether it originated from him as the secretary of ZWLA, resonates the view of the general population of Zimbabwe. These are genuine veterans who sacrificed their lives for this mother Zimbabwe and to have one man and a few bunch of masquerades with the likes of kasukukuviri and the drunkard Chimene holdings the people at ransom is tantamount to genocide. We are starving as a nation with the drought ravaging us, the economy on its knees which can not provide jobs its people. Why not honestly accepting the truth that it is not well and fresh ideas are needed. Why keep on recycling the old tired brains which only think about war and intimidation of citizens genuinely expressing their constitutional rights. It was the right of the war veterans to voice their concerns. We have supported #ThisFlag, #Tajamuka now is our time to support Cde Mahiya. He is one of us, this will champion our cause and liberate ourselves. I am not a supporter of zanu pf but i support the cause of the liberation struggle to which we should enjoy the fruits of independence not the partisan line towed by the oppressor. Zimbabwe belongs to Zimbabweans regardless of differences in opinion which resulted in different political parties being formed. Truth only shall set us free, John 8:32 Muchaziva zvokwadi, nezvokwadi ichakusunungurai. VaEfeso 6:1 Nemi madzishe, muvaitire saizvozvo, murege kuvatyisa; nokuti munoziva kuti Ishe wavo nowenyu uri kudenga, haatendi zvinovonekwa zvomunhu. I strongly condemn violence and muzzling of the people but let us unite and amicably map the way forward for the development of Zimbabwe. As of now we don’t need a political president, we need a Chief Executive Officer to lead the nation who is apolitical. Then after that we can return to the democracy. As of now let us rally behind Cde Mahiya.#ReleaseMahiya.
