Villagers Beat And Kill A Suspected Thief

Four people from Gweru, Summerset Farm appeared in court for fatally assaulting a 27 –year- old suspected thief.
It is reported that Trymore Khumalo (25), Herbert Chivasa (31), Knowledge Dube (30) Sikhalaliwe Mlalazi (24), allegedly teamed up and killed a man Isheunesu Gobore of  Missouri farm on the outskirts of Gweru. Reason Ndlovu (45) an alleged accomplice is on the run.
The four appeared before Gweru magistrate, Mr Tendai Madanhire facing murder charges.They were not asked to plead and were remanded in custody.
Mr Madanhire advised them to apply to the High Court for bail.
Prosecutor, Miss Helen Khosa said on August 26 the four as well as Ndlovu allegedly suspected that Gobore had entered into their kitchen hut and fowl run that night and left unnoticed.
The court heard, the next morning, they followed Gobore to his homestead, but it was not stated if anything had been stolen from the kitchen hut and fowl run.
Miss Khosa said they tied Gobore to a wooden pole before assaulting him all over the body. In the process, the court heard Gobore, sustained head injuries and died on the scene.
“The five accused persons teamed up, tied the deceased with a rope to a wooden pole and took turns to assault him with open hands, a sjambok, a machete and a log all over the body,” she said.
“The accused except for Ndlovu were apprehended by fellow villagers who witnessed them assaulting Gobore.”- State Media
