By Chrispen Tabvura|  Bulawayo – In yet another ZRP escapade, police chased down a kombi driver carrying preschool kids leading a horrific accident.
The driver failed to give way at the intersection of Hebert Chitepo and 12th Avenue and was hit at the side, leading to the vehicle collapsing.
The minors were assisted onto an ambulance shortly afterwards.
According to witnesses at the scene, the kombi driver was being chased down by traffic cops who were on City Centre patrol during the peak hour.
Several kids who were retrieved from the smashed kombi, were taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals for treatment and their condition was not immediately available at the time of going to press. The minors escaped death by a whisker as they were all swiftly pulled from the kombi alive. While being pulled out, the kids were heard audibly crying for help.
The driver of the kombi refused to talk to the press as he was still in a state of shock. “I am not in the mood to talk to you,” the man briefly responded saying.
Eye witnesses blamed the kombi driver for not giving way. “This driver was speeding and I was driving behind him, he was escaping from the mobile police,” said one Miss Luphahla who was in tears.
The police have returned to their controversial road blocks, with many kombis now playing cat and mouse to avert the cops.

  3. Eeish! the caliber of our drivers. How can u drive thru busy intersections speeding, moreso with inocent souls like these kids. A deterrent sentence must be given to that driver to send a message to the would be offenders to know. Not less than 20years should be alright

Pick hour results in delays only not accidents.I have reason to believe that the resultant accident created more chaos than if the driver had stopped for the cops.Umbulances had to be called to the scene, hospital bills had to be paid not mentioning expenses for repairs to vehicles.Suppose the driver was running away from a $20 dollar fine only to cause damages worth thousands of dollars.Do not be emotional when commenting on such issues.

The kombi driver was very wrong.He should at least adhere to the rules of the road.The lives he endangered are not police lives.The other vehicle he collided with is not a police vehicle. If he has a beef with the police why not sue them if he is right.Let us not just blame the police.
