hit by Gutu...Morgan Tsvangirai
hit by Gutu…Morgan Tsvangirai

MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai has been hit at by his spokesperson Obert Gutu, the latter who has triggered a state media probe on Tsvangirai.
This was shortly after the MDC boss had announced his decision to anoint Nelson Chamisa as his Deputy President, which has disturbed the spokesperson and the rest of the MDC leadership. They express that the MDC leader violated the constitution to catapult Chamisa and Elias Mudzuri to the Presidency.
Gutu took a swipe at Tsvangirai in a Facebook post which, faced with the embarrassment, he within minutes soon deleted.  ZimEye.com managed to obtain the post (SEE THE BELOW).

The state media following Gutu’s lead, have since taken umbrage at Tsvangirai writing on Tuesday that he “threw the MDC-T constitution into the dustbin when he appointed to the vice presidency Advocate Nelson Chamisa and Engineer Elias Mudzuri last Friday”.

This is contrary to claims by party officials close to Mr Tsvangirai that the appointments were procedural, the state broadsheet declared.
It continued saying, the development has further divided MDC-T as some top party officials are meeting nicodemously and strategising against the appointment of Adv Chamisa and Eng Mudzuri.
The MDC-T constitution, which is supposed to be the opposition party’s bible, is clear on how vice presidents are supposed to assume power.
Mr Tsvangirai actually violated Section 6.4.3.1 of the MDC-T constitution amended and adopted at its 6th congress at the City Sports Centre in Harare, in November 2014.
Section 6.4.3.1 of the MDC-T constitution reads: “The National Standing Committee shall compose of the following office bearers elected by Congress:
(a) the president
(b) the deputy president
(c) the national chairperson
(d) the deputy chairperson
(e) the secretary general
(f) the treasurer general
(g) organising secretary
(h) secretary for information and publicity
(i) chairperson of the youth assembly
(j) chairperson of the women’s assembly who shall each be elected directly by congress from nominations made by the provinces.”
The MDC-T constitution also states who the party leader should appoint:
“And (k), the secretary for elections, who shall be appointed by the president, provided that the Standing Committee may invite any party secretary to any of its meetings.

(l) The deputy secretary general, the deputy treasurer general, the deputy organising secretary and the Deputy Secretary for Information and Publicity shall be part of the National Standing Committee until the next congress,” reads the MDC-T constitution.
The MDC-T constitution makes it explicitly clear that a deputy president is elected according to section 9.1.4, which reads: “The president shall, with the exception of the deputy president and deputy chairperson, appoint deputies to officers of congress from a pool of National Executive members elected from provinces and other office bearers where such is provided in this constitution.”
The MDC-T was formed in 1999 and its constitution was approved by the inaugural congress held in Chitungwiza in January 2000.
The constitution was amended and adopted at the second congress at the City Sports Centre in Harare on March 18, 2006.
It was again amended and adopted at the third congress at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo on April 30, 2011.
The MDC-T constitution was amended and adopted further at the 6th Congress of the party at the City Sports Centre on November 1, 2014.
Yesterday, another senior party official came out guns blazing branding Mr Tsvangirai a dictator and urging Adv Chamisa and Eng Mudzuri to introspect on the violation of the MDC-T constitution.
“It is clear the party constitution states that positions for vice presidency are part of the presidium and are elective positions,” said the senior MDC-T official.
“This will not be taken lying down. There is general consensus right through to the structures — they are saying a big no to dictatorship. People are saying it is actually embarrassing for the appointees to accept those positions.
“They should look at themselves (Adv Chamisa and Eng Mudzuri) as principled athletes. Who would accept a medal in a race they did not participate? People were canvassed and money changed hands.”

  1. Just go and manage your heavily abandoned Ncube Wellishi movement and stop waisting time on MDC T issues.

  2. Well what you said is true but it does not end there. The MDC T formed in 2005 won its first elections in 2008 beating the Ncube MDC formed in 1999, interesting isn’t it?

  3. Well what you said is true but it does not end there. The MDC T formed in 2005 won its first elections in 2008 beating the Ncube MDC formed in 1999, interesting isn’t it?

  4. I have said it before. Dougie is dumb. He does not think . he has never done. The most stupid MDCT secretry general. How does that media blitz help?

  5. Who is “we”? You mean you yourself on your own are the “we”?

  6. The MDC-T was formed in 2005, not 1999. This is why it has a “T”. The original MDC does not have a “T” and it is led by Welshman Ncube. MDC-T was formed in 2005 after Prof Ncube and others fired Morgan Tswangirayi and some of his sympathisers in the Kitchen Cabinet for ignoring the democratic electoral outcome of the National Council that voted at the time to participate in the Senate elections. Please get your facts right – you have a very short memory. I doubt if you passed O levels.

  7. Storm in a tea cup. so far the Herald and unknown commentators are the complainants and propagators of a split in MDCT, we are all used to that mantra.
