By Brenna Matendere| An interdenominational choir of churches over the weekend recorded a live DVD of a compilation album featuring over 20 tracks at an event that was over-subscribed by Christians in the country’s third largest city- thanks to independent Gweru Urban parliamentary candidate, Nkosikhona Ndlovu who sponsored the programme to the tune of $3 000.
The group’s stage name is New Creation Asande Choir.
The 25 member choir comprised of fine song birds drawn from churches such as Anglican, Harvest House, Dutch, Seventh Day of Adventists, Catholics and several others from pentecostal denominations. The Live DVD is titled Winning Souls to Christ.
Gospel Diva Mercy Mutsvene’s young brother Kuda; former Zimpraise band member Mai Maningi; Moreen Sifelani and Anthia Mushungupa were some of the famous figures in the show biz who were part of the choir.
Brightness Ncube, the choir’s executive president told this publication that the event had surpassed their imaginations in terms of attendance. He also thanked businessman Nkosi Ndlovu for the sponsorship of the recording and camping expenses.
“We were camped at a private residence paid for by businessman Nkosikhona Ndlovu for a week and per day the charges were about $400. We could not have afforded that kind of money and so our hearts goes for Mr Ndlovu whom we popularly call Umdala Wethu. He also supplied us with instruments and when put together the sponsorship runs into thousands of United states dollars,” said Ncube.
Tino Mhungu, the spokesperson for Mr Ndlovu said the businessman will continue to sponsor such events in order to uplift lives of youths, middle aged people and women in Gweru.
“Well Mr Ndlovu has in the past made such gracious gestures. He has in the past sponsored talent shows and workshops for the young. He is dedicated towards supporting the church and turning people’s lives to Jesus Christ. On the other hand, he wants to see talented people being given the chance to rise to the occasion and work towards decent survival,” he said.
Mr Ndlovu is set to contest for the Gweru Urban constituency parliamentary seat as an independent candidate and he is on record for saying he will continue to work for the development of the city irregardless of how he fares on the election day.
