By Own Correspondent| First husband to former First lady Dr Grace Mugabe, Stanley Goreraza has revealed that he hoped that “a new government” romps to victory in the forthcoming polls and retrain the security forces on professionalism.

Goreraza said this while airing his views on recent developments where former local government minister Saviour Kasukuwere exposed why he had to leave the country as a refugee following the November 17 2017 military takeover which culminated to the resignation of former president Robert Mugabe.

He described as highly unprofessional the conduct of the country’s security forces adding that such conduct was a threat to the protection of civilians.

Goreraza castigated the security forces for shooting at Kasukuwere’s residence adding that through this act, the security forces exposed their “shameful” behaviour, which costed the lives of innocent civilians including the disappearance of prominent pro democracy campaigner, Itai Dzamara.

“There is no excuse for madness of that kind. Professional soldiers defy orders which deliberately and directly result in loss of civilian lives, especially where women and children are involved,” said Goreraza.

“If we had professionals, Itai Dzamara would be with us today. Instead we have security people very much ready to commit gross human rights abuses and terror on the very people they are supposed to protect.”

Goreraza said he hoped for the victory of a “new government” come August 2018 which would retrain the security forces on the sanctity of protecting the lives of civilians especially women and children.

Profesional soldiers would not have shot at Kasukuwere’s house using deadly AK47 assault rifles. They would have moved in and ordered him to surrender himself into their custody. Unless Kasukuwere had presented a threat by firing at the soldiers, they had no right to shoot at his house.

They could have killed his wife and children whom they were and are supposed to protect at all costs even if it means losing their own lives to protect them.

Shameful. Very very shameful. I can only imagine the terror Kasukuwere’s wife and children had to endure, with members of the Zimbabwe defence forces trying to kill occupants in their house.

The Zimbabwe defence forces went to war with terrified and unarmed children and women screaming for help and mercy. It’s beyond disgusting. There is nothing more evil.

There is no excuse for madness of that kind. Professional soldiers defy orders which deliberately and directly result in loss of civilian lives, especially where women and children are involved. I understand Jonathan Moyo’s family had also sought refuge at the Kasukuwere home.

Saviour and Jonathan would have never shot at the soldiers if they were armed knowing this would result in the definite deaths of their families.

Jonathan and Chombo’s homes were also shot at and even explosives were used. Professionally done, not a single shot would have been taken.

I hope a new government takes over in August. Our security forces need to be retrained and that includes those in Intelligence and Police. If we had professionals, Itai Dzamara would be with us today. Instead we have security people very much ready to commit gross human rights abuses and terror on the very people they are supposed to protect.

But Kasukuwere, Jonathan and Chombo now have an idea how victims of Gukurahundi, 2008 and Murambatsvina must have felt. They are even lucky their family members are still alive. Many were not so lucky.

They could have been abducted and disappeared. Would we now be telling each other Jonathan is hiding in Botswana like what the same Jonathan said about Dzamara

Some of us are not animals. Whatever Jonathan, Chombo and Kasukuwere have done we cherish the lives of their children as if they are our own. Their wives are like our sisters and mothers. They should never be terrorised by armed soldiers.

But Jonathan, Chombo and Kasukuwere do not have the same hearts. They supported and defended the terror that visited so many of Mr Mugabe’s victims.
