BREAKING- ICT Minister Announces Huge Reduction In Data Charges

By Own Correspondent| Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Minister Supa Mandiwanzira has announced massive reduction on data charges which will become effective on July 1.

Mandiwanzira announced that the new threshold charges exclusive of taxes had been reduced from 12, 5 cents per megabyte to 5 cents for out of bundle charges while the USSD threshold from 12,5c per session to 5c that is for Ecocash etc.

Addressing a media briefing at Potraz this morning (Wednesday), Mandiwanzira said the reduction aimed at attracting investors and making sure that the country remained competitive and in touch with the rest of the world.

“Fixed voice charges shall remain subject to market forces subject to regulatory approval but we are saying no to unfair and destructive competition,” said Mandiwanzira.

“Internet data charges for internet access providers is also left to market forces but subject to regulations by the regulator.”
