By Paul Nyathi|Police in Mwanza Malawi have arrested a 25 year-old woman for engaging in sexual activity with a seven-year-old boy, Malawi News Agency (Mana) has learnt.

Mwanza Police Public Relations Officer, Edwin Kaunda told Mana the victim (name withheld) said Agnes James used to invite him to her bedroom where she was forcing the boy to have sex with her.

“This happened several times but James used to instruct the boy not to disclose it to anyone,” Kaunda said. “On June 09, 2018 the boy decided to reveal the ordeal to his mother what James had been doing with him on several occasions.”

Kaunda added that the mother did not hesitate but rushed to Mwanza Police Station where she reported the matter. He said the police immediately instituted investigations and arrested the suspect.

“James appeared before Mwanza First Grade Magistrate Court on June 18 where she pleaded not guilty and denied the charge of engaging in sexual activity with a child contrary to section 160 (B) (1) of the penal code,” said Kaunda.

Hearing of the case has since been adjourned to a later date to allow the state parade some witnesses, according to Kaunda.

The suspect Agnes James hails from Mchotseni Village in the area of Traditional Authority Kanduku in Mwanza.
