By Paul Nyathi|Prominent youth activist Wellington Zindove who has been suffering from cancer for a long time is reported to have passed on in Harare on Wednesday afternoon.
Friends close to him revealed to ZimEye.com that the young activists who civil society recently ran a fundraising petition to raise funds for his treatment failed to recover from the cancer.
Zindove, popularly known as Zindi, was one of Zimbabwe’s vibrant youth empowerment advocates of the Youth Forum, was diagnosed with Cancer of The Colon.
His doctors had recommended that he undergoes chemotherapy as a matter of urgency. This process has multiple sessions which in total cost $32 000.
Wellington was an activist since his days at University of Zimbabwe 2000-2004 where he was a member of the Students Representative Council. In 2006 he helped form the Zimbabwe Youth Movement as a platform for activism related to issues affecting youths of Zimbabwe.
He later joined the Youth Forum where he has been a Coordinator. Among some of the projects he led are Peace-Building initiatives, Youth Empowerment initiatives and numerous capacity building programs in Zimbabwe.
Zindove was 39 years and left behind his wife and three children.
