By Own Correspondent| Chikomba West legislator who doubles as the Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr John Mangwiro provided awards with a difference for Marondamashanu Secondary School Prize Giving Day.
Dr Mangwiro awarded excelling students hens and goats for their prizes saying that this was a worthwhile investment as hens and goats are going to multiply and be there for a long time if the winners look after them well.
He gave the prizes (Friday), at the school’s first ever prize giving day since its establishment in 1984.
Said Mangwiro:
“Education is the key to a better life so you must work hard in preparation for your future life. You must showcase the talents that you have, which can also change your lives.”
He also said the goats and hens would foster self-reliance amongst the pupils at a tender age.
“Goats and hens reproduce and the pupils can sell them to get money for school fees and other needs,” he said.
Present at the ceremony were Chief Nyoka, several heads and teachers from surrounding schools and Chivhu Police Station Officer in Charge Richard Masiiwa who is a former student.
Prominent local film ‘Wenera’ actors Zolile Makheleni (Tsotsi) and Tinashe Pundo (Gugu) were also present.-MasvingoMirror
