An impromptu visit to Gweru provincial registrar’s offices by the Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister, Cde Larry Mavhima has once again unearthed the lethargic attitude still existent in the civil service.
The surprise visit comes after the Minister had witnessed long winding queues for a couple of days and wanted establish the causes.
Servant leadership is what every civil service employee has been tasked to implement by President Emmerson Mnangagwa but it appears this work ethic is yet to be grasped by many.
When Minister Mavhima visited the registrar’s offices, some staffers even failed to respond to the Minister’s inquiries.
“The behaviour of the civil service employees is in direct conflict with what the 2nd republic intends to achieve and some offices do not even resemble a public office that holds or keeps records of the nation,” the Minister said.
Midlands Provincial Registrar, Mrs Agnes Gambura told the ZBC News that the increase in the number of people waiting to be served by her staff was due to the fault within their operating system since their operations are now digital.
She however assured the nation that everything will be fine and running soon and they will attend to their clients even until after working hours.
Some of the people said they have now spent two days without being saved and some had applied for emergency passports which are supposed to be out within 24 hours but were not sure if they will get them in time.
The government has in the past few years decentralised the issuance of passports to ease the backlog of people waiting for their documents at the main centre in Harare.
