By Own Correspondent| Following presentation bythe Home Affairs minister, cabinet on Tuesday approaved the principles for the ammendment of the Zimbabwe Citizenship Bill.

Briefing journalists at a post cabinet presser, Minister of Information and Publicity Monica Mutsvangwa said the development is part of the ongoing process of aligning the country’s laws to the Constitution.

Said Mutsvangwa:

“Key provisions of he ammendment include the following: renaming of the Citizenship of Zimbabwe Act as the Zimbabwe Citizens Act, permitting of dual cutizenship of citizens by birth. Cabinet also approaved the establishment of a Zimbabwe Citizenship and Immigration Board to oversee the granting and revocation of citizenship by descent and registration, prohibition of dual cutizenship for citizens by descent and registration and the requirement for applicants for citizenship by registration to have resided in Zimbabwe for 10 years.”
