By Own Correspondent- Oppositin MDC spokesperson Jacob Mafume has respondent to allegations that opposition party stalwarts are responsible for the terror attack on the party’s women’s wing chairperson in Stoneridge Harare.
The party’s chairperson, whose name is yet to be identified was reportedly attacked by a gang during the night with knives and left for dead according to a tweet by Zanu Pf Patriots.
However, MDC national spokesperson Jacob Mafume called Zanu Pf to order and said his party had no hand in Zanu Pf factional fights.
Mafume said contrary to claims that his party were the perpetrators in politically related violence, the MDC was at the receiving end of arrests, persecution, torment and torture by Zanu Pf cadres and the state apparatus.
said Mafume in an interview with ZimEye:
“We did not attack Zanu Pf. Our members do not wear Zanu Pf clothes. The problems of Harare South are documented and well known. These are Zanu Pf factions. Mnangagwa’s nephew (Tongai Mnangagwa) was imposed in that constituency and the structures of Zanu Pf have never accepted him and they are continuing their fights. We have nothing to do with the fights and the people who were fighting each other know each other very well, they know each other’s names and they cannot ascribe it to the MDC. We are a peaceful party, we are the victims here and we have no interest in being involved in Zanu pf factions. We dispute those allegations. They are merely an excuse to try to arrest, persecute, torment and kill our membership.”
