Dear Editor-The Deputy Treasurer of the MDC Students Council Timothy Mushaya was heavily assaulted on Friday the 13th of September 2019.
He was assaulted in Gweru near Club Ecite after buying a beer at around 7 in the evening.
He was in the company of a friend Moses Soko. Timothy Mushaya was wearing an MDC t.shirt when one unidentified man charged at Timothy and started assaulting him with clenched fists. His friend tried to intervene but was also assaulted.
Another group of seven men joined in the assault saying “Vapfanha veMDC vanoda kupihwa gwara”. The group of seven assaulted the pair with fists and iron bars.
During the assault, Timothy Mushaya was robbed of a US $20 note and house keys of where he rents as a student. He sustained injuries from the attack.
Timothy Mushaya and his friend then proceeded to Gweru Central Police Station where they reported the case.
The police officers initially refused to entertain the matter. They instead chased the pair away saying “nyaya dzePolitics dzinonetsa, saka vapfanha ibvai pano!” Mushaya and colleague remained adamant and they reported the matter. However, since Friday the perpetrators have not been brought to book despite the fact that they are regularly seen drinking at Club Ecite.
