By A Correspondent- Three men pounced at Mbonqane Primary School on the outskirts of Bulawayo and tied a security guard to a tree before they got away with school property and cooking oil.

A teacher at the school who requested anonymity said the three men descended on the school last week on Sunday at around 1am.

“The security guard was busy with his duties when the thieves pounced at the school. They headed straight to the security guard who was taking a walk around the school with his lit torch,” said the source.

The source added: “They hit him with a log on the head and on the body.

“He fell down. They ordered him to rise up and lead them to where the school safe was but he professed ignorance about where the safe was kept.”

The source went on to say failure to disclose where the safe was angered the thieves who then took turns to hit him with open arms.

“They didn’t believe that he did not know where the safe was kept and they stuffed pieces of cloth into his mouth and hit him with open hands.

“He led them to the headmistress’s office where they took a wheelbarrow, solar inverter and 12 litres of cooking oil. They tied him to a tree with a rope and left with the school property,” said the teacher.

A report was made to the police.

Deputy Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident:

“I can confirm that we are investigating a robbery case that took place at Mbonqane Primary School where thieves got away with a wheelbarrow and a solar inverter and 12 litres of cooking oil.”
