By A Correspondent- MDC Harare Senator, Elias Mudzuri believes the Supreme Court ruling passed on Tuesday that ruled Nelson Chamisa was an illegitimate leader of the MDC, is a blessing in disguise as it gives the opposition party members a chance to find each other.

Supreme Court judge, Justice Bharat, sitting with justices Paddington Garwe and Antonia Guvava ruled on Tuesday that Chamisa was an illegitimate leader of the MDC following an appeal he made last year against a similar High Court ruling.

Former MDC Vice President Thokozani Khupe has since been appointed Acting President and the Supreme Court ordered her to organise an elective congress in the next three months.

“The Supreme Court ruling is a chance for us to find one another.

“It is an opportunity to deal with the succession issue and to rise above personal egos and ambitions so we unite to win 2023,” Mudzuri said Wednesday after the ruling.

Before the ruling, Mudzuri was the MDC secretary for local government. He was in 2016, appointed one of the three vice presidents by the now late MDC founding president, Morgan Tsvangirai.

The Supreme Court judgment makes Khupe the Acting President of the MDC with Midlands Senator Morgen Komichi as chairperson while Douglas Mwonzora will revert to his position of secretary general. He had been demoted to the unglamorous post of deputising Glatys Hlatswayo who leads the party’s International Relations Department.
