We can’t wait for the lockdown to end for us to come up with strategies to stimulate our economy. It will only be careless for us to ignore this critical issue because no one knows when the lockdown will be over.

The right time to stimulate our economy is now. We need to hold people accountable for the positions they are holding.

Zimbabwe can’t move forward without the political will from the top. We need a shift of mindset and more commitment from President Mnangagwa and the cabinet.

Somebody must crack the whip on all those public officials who have not executed their duties, those who have not fulfilled their mandate of the offices they were appointed into and those who have failed to represent the people who voted them into office.

Almost all public officials have been focused on milking the country and not necessarily doing good for the country.

This situation has exposed the shortcomings of the leaders in Zimbabwe. We need a change of heart from people in influential positions.

Going forward, we need to harness our potential and focus on our low hanging fruits. Land is readily available for us to produce and make Zimbabwe food secure again.

We need an honest extensive land audit and land redistribution to benefit all citizens who are interested in farming. Our food security is threatened. What have those who have been occupying land doing with it?

Let us pull out records and compare what was being done on the land and what is happening right now. It is time to go back to basics. We can never go wrong with food production. People need to get working to produce.

Now is the time for Minister of Agriculture Perence Shiri to restrategize and save Zimbabwe from hunger.

LEAD is concerned about food security. We are advising the Ministry to allocate at least 2ha and 5ha land to youth and women in Zimbabwe to produce.

That way we will create employment, export and stimulate our economy.

When we export we will get the much needed foreign currency. This should be done in an honest and vigorous way. All this should be done NOW and not tomorrow.

While we are on lockdown, the department of urban planning and those responsible for SMEs must be working on formulation of systems that work and to decongest the CBD.

We need to have proper structures in place for our informal traders as well as better informal traders management systems in place to enable is to move forward.

There is so much chaos at the top. No one trusts those in power. We need to boost confidence so that we can formalize the informal sector.

President Mnangagwa should crack the whip and remove all those with a laissez faire approach and non performers. He has been given a second chance by default to correct the wrongs in his government.

We need to see political will from Mr Mnangagwa to fix our economy. No one is going to come to save Zimbabwe expect us. It is no longer time to maintain primitive loyalties.

This corona virus pandemic has exposed our rotten health and economic systems to the core, food security, sanitation and incompetence of our local authorities and government systems.

Not all hope is lost however, we have had our institutions of Higher Education, Technology and Tertiary institutions manufacturing sanitizers, ventilators, masks etc to assist with the pandemic. It shows the intellectual wealth Zimbabwe has which is not being harnessed.

Funds should be directed to these institutions to produce at a large scale. If that is done well, we can export to the rest of the continent. We have enough intellectual capacity to produce.

Institutional reform is important and ensuring transparency and accountability. Zimbabweans are very productive and hard working people who are being ill managed.
