The Movement for Democratic Change Tsvangirai (MDC-T) led by Thokozani Khupe has reportedly secured the support of three MDC Alliance principals who were part of the 2017 pact.

The three principals are Transform Zimbabwe president Jacob Ngarivhume, Zanu Ndonga leader Denford Musiyarira and Mathisa Guchutu of the Multiracial Christian Democracy (MCD).

The development was confirmed by an anonymous MDC-T official who told New Zimbabwe that the inaugural meeting between the principals and MDC-T officials had been slated for Saturday. The official said:

The meeting was supposed to take place in Harare on Saturday last week, but it could not happen because of Ngarivhume’s absenteeism.

In fact, he sent through an excuse and asked for a postponement of the meeting on the basis that he had travelled outside Harare on an emergency and the meeting was duly rescheduled to early next month.

The development was also confirmed by MDC-T national chairperson Morgen Komichi who said the plan was to review the Alliance pact of 2017 and establish a grand coalition to contest in the 2023 election which are drawing closer.

He said MDC Alliance was left out since it “is not a political party” adding that perhaps Tendai Biti and Welshman Ncube would bring their parties- PDP and MDC-N respectively.
