By A Correspondent| President Emmerson Mnangagwa has subtly repeated late leader Robert Mugabe’s grave mistake of inviting labour representatives to join politics.

Mugabe in the late 90s told a restless labour movement then led by the late Gibson Sibanda and Morgan Tsvangirai to form a political party for them to fulfill what they were pushing government to do to employees.

This resulted in the formation of the Movement for Democratic Change that went on to give Mugabe restless nights after trouncing him in the 2000 parliamentary elections after garnering 62 out of 120 seats.

Addressing the Zanu PF politburo meeting yesterday, Mnangagwa told labor representatives to stick to their mandate while reminding them that political views and ambitions belong to another lane.

“I urge those who purport to represent workers to do just that. Political view and ambitions belong to another lane. Chose the lane you walk on! Those in politics must seek the mandate of the people every five years, through the ballot box. That is the constitutional way; that is the ‘rule of law’ way that is the democratic way,” said Mnangagwa.

The labour through the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Union has been pushing for action from citizens saying the salaries being paid to government employees were a mockery yet bigwigs in government were looting without facing arrest.
